As part of our ongoing El Niño rain preparedness and response measures, the Sanitation and Urban Development Department of Mandera Municipality is working tirelessly to prepare the town for the expected rains.
Our teams are actively opening and clearing drainage systems, Clearing culverts and water passageways, Removing debris and blockages from drainage channels and Undertaking other necessary measures to improve water flow and reduce the risk of flooding.
These efforts are aimed at protecting residents, businesses and public infrastructure while ensuring that stormwater is safely managed during the rainy season.
We urge residents to avoid dumping waste in drainage channels and culverts and to cooperate with municipal teams as we work together to keep Mandera clean, safe and resilient.

Mandera Municipality wishes to inform residents and the general public about a devastating fire incident that occurred at Bus Park Market at approximately 11:20 PM last night.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently subject to further assessment. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported, although the incident resulted in significant damage to businesses and property, causing substantial losses to affected traders.
Our dedicated Mandera Municipality Fire and Rescue Crew responded promptly and worked tirelessly throughout the night, successfully bringing the fire under control at approximately 4:00 AM this morning.
The Municipality sincerely regrets the devastating losses experienced by the affected traders and residents. We understand the hardship and emotional distress this incident has caused and we extend our heartfelt sympathies to everyone affected.
We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to:
1) Mandera Municipality Fire and Rescue Crew for their bravery, commitment and tireless efforts in containing the fire.
2) Security Personnel for their valuable support in coordinating the emergency response and maintaining order during the operation.
3) All individuals who contributed to the firefighting and emergency response efforts for their cooperation and support.
Your dedication and teamwork played an important role in preventing further damage and protecting lives.

CASHLESS REVENUE COLLECTION SYSTEM – MANDERA MUNICIPALITY
Date: 2nd July 2026
Mandera Municipality, together with the County Revenue Department led by the Chief Officer for Revenue, Mr. Kassim, conducted a field visit to various revenue collection points to assess the performance of the newly introduced cashless system and create stakeholder awareness.
The system is operational and shows strong potential to enhance efficiency, accountability, and transparency. However, initial challenges such as limited user familiarity and resistance from some business sectors were noted.
Despite these issues, the outlook remains positive, with adoption expected to improve through continued engagement and system enhancements. Stakeholders are encouraged to support and promote awareness to ensure successful implementation.
Today, a fire incident occurred in Bulla Garay. Thanks to the swift response of the fire emergency team, the situation was brought under control quickly and efficiently.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the community members, security officers, and the entire Mandera Municipality staff for their prompt action, coordination, and support during the emergency.
We are grateful to report that no lives were lost and no casualties were recorded. The collective efforts and teamwork demonstrated by all stakeholders played a vital role in containing the fire and safeguarding residents and property.

Mandera Municipality Citizen Fora & Public Participation.
Mandera Municipality today successfully convened a Citizen Forum and Public Participation Meeting aimed at fostering inclusive governance and strengthening collaboration between the Municipality and the residents it serves.
The forum was attended by the Municipal Board Chairman, Board Members, the Municipal Manager, Municipality staffs, representatives from various government departments, community leaders, religious leaders, women, youth, persons with disabilities, business owners, and residents from across the municipality.
During the session, the Municipal Manager provided a comprehensive briefing on the Municipality’s ongoing programs, achievements, challenges, and planned development initiatives. Municipality staffs also presented updates on key service delivery areas and engaged participants in discussions on improving municipal operations.
Key issues discussed included environmental sanitation, waste management, drainage improvement, urban planning, public infrastructure, revenue collection, greening initiatives, and strategies to enhance service delivery across the Municipality. Participants freely shared their views, concerns, and recommendations, which will inform future planning and decision-making processes.
The forum reaffirmed the Municipality’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and meaningful public participation. Stakeholders emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between residents, Municipality staffs, and leadership in driving sustainable development and improving the quality of life for all citizens.
The Municipal Board Chairman expressed appreciation to all participants for their active engagement and valuable contributions, noting that citizen feedback remains essential in shaping responsive and people-centered governance.
