🤝 SCDO Engages Stakeholders as Jasiri Year 2 Resumes

Stakeholders in shanzu and Bamburi are well aware of the and were happy to be included in the meeting held by Strategic Community Development to mark the resumption of Jasiri Year 2, a program supporting women who have experienced Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and strengthening pathways toward recovery, empowerment, and resilience supported by Centre for Rights Education and Awareness (CREAW) .

The meeting brought together key stakeholders to reflect on the progress made during the previous phase and to strengthen collaboration for the successful implementation of Year 2.

During the meeting, the Team Leader shared the organization’s achievements from the previous year, highlighting the progress made in supporting GBV survivors and the lessons learned throughout implementation.

Achievements of year one included;
-over 300 women received counselling sessions
-atleaset 37 girls were taken through skilling in different tvets and apprenticeship practices
-more than 12 women received inkind support
*over 1200 community members including male were reached through community engagemnet sessions including the male engagement sessions.

The Team Leader also acknowledged the challenges encountered, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration and coordinated efforts among stakeholders in addressing these challenges.

As Jasiri Year 2 begins, SCDO reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with stakeholders to ensure that the program reaches and benefits those who need it most.

A key priority for Year 2 will be strengthening inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) by ensuring that program activities and support mechanisms are accessible and responsive to their needs.

The program will also place greater emphasis on male engagement sessions, recognizing the important role men can play in promoting healthy relationships, preventing GBV, supporting survivors, and contributing to safer and more inclusive communities.

Through stronger partnerships, inclusive approaches, and meaningful stakeholder engagement, SCDO looks forward to building on the achievements of Year 1 and creating even greater impact through Jasiri Year 2.

We joined other patners and the Mombasa County Department of Youth, Gender, Sports & Cultural Affairs in celebrating the 2026 International Youth day at Tononoka Social hall..Youths addressed their agenda to the mombasa county leaders being led by the mombasa county Governor.

Graced tha day as major asks by the youths to the leaders.
They pledged to adhere to the requests and support each youth by creating favourable environment for all youth empowerment and growth in different spheres.

Mangrove restoration for our current and future generation, we partnered with KENYA FOREST SERVICE to replant mangroves at junda creek with the community members and other partners as a means to address climate change as well as empower community members and groups. This will go along way to control erosion along the creek and restore the beauty and balance of nature that the mangroves provide in the ecosystem, community members had an opportunity to learn the planting process and the benefits they can tap from the mangroves.
The Coastal regional forest conservator, explained to the audience how bee keeping and crab farming can be of a benefit to the community, urging members to unite restore and protect the mangroves

Creating partnership is a key way to increase the effort in mitigating challenges the community faces.
Due to our good working relationship with KAACR and focus, today strategic community development organisation was able to host proffessors from the Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen to create a new partnership and share knowledge on different programs that both entities involve in, such as; gender based violence and climate change and justice.
The partnership focuses on creating a common ground and support system to increase understanding, research and capitalization of ocean resources to support the Women and Youth in the communities to address daily challenges they face such as Gender based violence, poverty and inequality.
We foresee to sharing Knowledge on how available resources can be passed on to the community to enable them tap on available resources and avoid instances that may subject them to violence.
Discussions surrounded;
*How different programs can be intertwined to focus on addressing challenges
*How the entities can relay on each other for knowledge exchange and other support.

We partnered with Aga khan academy mombasa menstruators group to engage students from Joho girls secondary school on stitching reusable pads. The girls have been trained on how to stitch reusable pads and how to use and clean them, we provide the materials needed make the pads and are working to ensure every girl child willbe equiped with the knowledge and skills to make the re usable pads.This is a drive to ensure our girls are equipped with skills that will help them make reusable pads thus avoiding GBV cases and missing school due to periods. The motive will play a big role in promoting period hygiene and addressing period stigma.
