The African Institute for Capacity Development (AICAD) conducted staff capacity-building sessions on procurement processes, regulations and opportunities to strengthen its Procurement Manual.
The sessions covered AICAD’s Country Offices in Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania and Uganda, providing a platform for shared learning and discussions on gaps that need to be addressed to enhance procurement practices across the institution.
Led by Mr. Kojo Isaak, Head of Procurement from Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) OFFICIAL, the sessions supported staff understanding of procurement requirements and encouraged practical contributions towards a clearer, more comprehensive Procurement Manual.
AICAD Executive Director, Prof. James Njiru, emphasized the importance of sound procurement practices in ensuring value for money and institutional sustainability. He highlighted procurement’s strategic role in supporting effective operations and the responsible use of resources.
Effective procurement strengthens transparency, promotes fair competition, supports timely delivery of goods and services, and builds confidence in institutional systems. Strengthening staff capacity and internal procedures is therefore essential to translating institutional resources into meaningful results.
AICAD appreciates Mr. Isaak for sharing his expertise and all participating staff for their contributions towards strengthening accountability and operational efficiency across its country offices.

AICAD Staff on 29th May 2026 proudly conducted a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity at Gachororo Primary School in Juja, Kiambu County, reaffirming our commitment to community empowerment, environmental sustainability, and the wellbeing of future generations.

The impactful day was marked by several meaningful activities aimed at supporting both the learners and the wider school community. These included:

🌱 Tree planting within the school compound
🩷 Donation of sanitary towels for the girl child
🥤 Provision of snacks and drinks for the young pupils

The tree planting exercise was graced by the Director Finance and Administration, Dr. John Njagi, alongside the BOG Chairperson of Gachororo Primary School. Also present was the representative of the Principal of Gachororo Primary School, whose support and collaboration contributed greatly to the success of the initiative.

The donation of sanitary towels was a significant step toward promoting menstrual hygiene management and ensuring that young girls can continue attending school with confidence and dignity. By addressing period poverty, AICAD seeks to contribute to improved school attendance, enhanced self-esteem, and equal learning opportunities for the girl child. Empowering girls through such initiatives strengthens not only individual futures but also the social and economic wellbeing of the wider community.

In addition, the tree planting activity symbolized our shared responsibility in promoting environmental conservation and climate resilience. The trees planted will contribute to cleaner air, improved biodiversity, and a greener learning environment for generations to come. More importantly, the exercise instilled environmental awareness among the pupils, encouraging them to become responsible stewards of the environment.

At AICAD, we believe that sustainable community development begins with collective action, compassion, and investment in both people and the environment. We remain committed to creating positive impact through partnerships that uplift communities and inspire hope for a better future.
