🎉 Meet Maddie, our brand new resident artist! 🧑‍🎨✨

All the way from New York, Maddie has swapped the city skyline for Watamu’s ocean views and she’s already itching to get creative. Her mission? Bringing colour and life to our information walkway so every visitor gets a warm, vibrant welcome.

Watch this space for some seriously beautiful transformations. 🎨🌊

Welcome to the team, Maddie, we’re so happy you’re here!

We are celebrating so many wonderful achievements in our team at the moment, it only seems fair that we share them with you.

August was a busy month, Deborah has been working tirelessly to keep our beaches clean and our marine scouts enthusiastic!

Excellent work!

We are incredibly proud of our very own Fikiri for becoming a finalist in the African Conservation Awards. This man keeps our entire rescue programme running and truely deserves this recognition. Well done Fikiri! 💙

Village elders from across Watamu regularly gather with us to share their memories of how the coastline, the reef, and fishing practices have changed over the decades, and what those changes mean for their community today. Their firsthand knowledge of shifting tides, declining catches, and a changing shoreline is a living record you won’t find in any report. Listening to our elders isn’t just about respect for the past, it’s essential guidance for building a more sustainable future together.

Traditional skill, sustainable impact. Hamisi puts generations of fishing knowledge to work, using techniques that take only what the ocean can spare and leave the reef, seagrass, and fish stocks intact for the next generation. In a time when overfishing threatens coastal livelihoods, this kind of low impact, community rooted practice is exactly what protects both the catch and the coastline that sustains it.
