AUB University Libraries’ Dr. Bassem Fleifel has completed a six-part interview series with researcher and media professional Ahmad Daadoush.

The series offers a historical discussion of the final period of the Ottoman Empire, the circumstances surrounding its collapse, and the political developments that shaped the national states that emerged in its aftermath.

Following the release of the final episode, the full series is now available on YouTube.

Baalbeck Festival Week at AUB

Celebrating 70 years of music, performance, and cultural memory.

On September 14, Jafet Memorial Library opened an exhibition marking the 70th anniversary of the Baalbeck International Festival and its enduring contribution to Lebanon’s cultural heritage.

Through photographs, posters, vinyl records, newspapers, and programs, the exhibition revisits seven decades of remarkable artists, performances, and moments that shaped the Festival’s history.

Organized in collaboration with the Baalbeck International Festival Committee, the AUB Zaki Nassif Program, individual collectors, and AUB Jafet Memorial Library.

Pick of the Month | September Edition

AUB University Libraries’ September Pick of the Month is "Auditing Reimagined: Navigating Stakeholder Expectations" by Yusuf M. Sidani, Tarek El Masri, and Abdeljalil Ghanem.

Published by Emerald Publishing Group, the book examines the growing divide between auditors and stakeholder expectations. It explores how public trust, non-audit consultancy services, communication gaps, technological change, regulatory developments, and ESG assurance are reshaping the future of the auditing profession.

The book also highlights the need to rethink audit education and training, preparing future auditors with both technical expertise and critical thinking skills.

On this International Day of Charity, we honor the work of Ni'mat Kronfol, co-founder of the Child and Mother Welfare Association.

Through the Ni’mat Kronfol Photograph Collection, the AUB Libraries preserve the legacy of a remarkable woman whose lifelong commitment to social welfare contributed significantly to improving the lives of children and women in Lebanon. Active in social work at Dar Al-Aytam Al-Islamiya and the Lebanese Red Cross from the 1930s, Ni’mat Kronfol was a pioneering figure in the Lebanese women’s movement. In 1944, she joined a group of Beiruti women in co-founding the Child and Mother Welfare Association, serving as its president from 1945 to 1961. The photographs featured here document her enduring commitment to social welfare and offer a glimpse into her lasting contributions to the causes she championed throughout her life.

Applications are now open for the EAP MENA Hub: Managing Resources for the Preservation of Library and Archive Materials workshop.

Organized by the University Library at the American University of Beirut and the British Library’s Endangered Archives Programme Hubs, this free two-day online workshop will explore how archives and libraries can manage resources more effectively to support the preservation of collections.

The workshop is designed for archive and library professionals in the Middle East and North Africa with budgeting, staffing, or other resourcing responsibilities.

World Humanitarian Day, observed globally on August 19, carries particular significance in Lebanon, where people have endured one humanitarian crisis after another.
Here, we highlight the famine in Lebanon during World War I, when American missionaries associated with AUB provided essential humanitarian assistance, including food distribution and soup kitchens, to vulnerable communities across the country.
The images featured here are taken from a report by Bayard Dodge documenting the relief activities of the ‘Abeih and Souk el-Gharb Soup Kitchens during 1915–1916.
