Atlas and Milan were rescued after threats were made to poison them in the area where they were living.

We got them out in time, and today they are safe from the streets and from the danger they faced.

But safety was only the first step.

They are still living in boarding, waiting for a foster or adopter to finally give them a home of their own.

They are both friendly, but a little shy at first. Give them some time to adjust and feel safe, and their sweet personalities will start to come through.

Every additional day in boarding means another day without a family — and another day of costs that we need help covering.

Atlas and Milan have already escaped one terrible fate. Now, we want to give them the ending they deserve.

Scottie was rescued from Beirut’s southern suburbs, Dahye, during the war. He was found with a severe open wound on his neck and a fungal infection that needed treatment.

Thankfully, Scottie has made a full recovery and is now healthy and doing well.

He is also incredibly affectionate and friendly, and loves being around people and getting attention. 🥹

After everything he has been through, Scottie now needs a foster or adopter who can give him the loving home he deserves.

Over the years, Animals Lebanon has rescued 30 big cats from abuse, trafficking, exploitation and inappropriate captivity.

Each one had a different story, but they all needed the same thing: a way out.

Our work did not end with their rescue. We worked to relocate them to specialized sanctuaries abroad, where they could receive the care, space and protection they deserved.

But protecting big cats isn’t only about rescue. It is also about changing the system that allowed them to be exploited in the first place.

Queenie’s story became a turning point. Her case helped expose the urgent need for stronger protections for big cats in Lebanon. Following her rescue, Animals Lebanon worked alongside the Ministry of Agriculture to pass Ministerial Decision No. 677, creating specific protections for big cats and helping prevent others from suffering the same fate.

Our advocacy went even further. Animals Lebanon lobbied for Lebanon to join CITES, the international convention regulating trade in endangered wildlife, with members of our team traveling to Qatar alongside the Minister as part of this important process.

We also worked for the adoption of Animal Protection and Welfare Law No. 47, providing legal protection for animals throughout Lebanon, including big cats.

Because rescue saves one animal at a time. But changing laws, strengthening enforcement and tackling wildlife trafficking can protect countless animals that we may never have to rescue.

Thirty big cats given the chance to leave suffering behind — and years of legal and advocacy work to make sure fewer animals ever become victims in the first place.

Their stories remind us why wild animals should never be treated as pets, status symbols or commodities.
