Embrace
Embrace is a non-profit organization (NGO) which works to raise awareness around mental health in Lebanon and the Middle East.
A Lebanese NGO dedicated to Mental Health in Lebanon with a mission to raise awareness and provide direct support to the community via the 1564 National Lifeline and the Embrace Mental Health Center - 01346226 Embrace launched as an affiliation with the Department of Psychiatry at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) back in 2013. As of August 2017, Embrace became an official registered NGO in Lebanon. It is a one of a kind charitable and fundraising initiative for mental illnesses. Some people smile, show up, keep going, and even check in on others.
But what we see on the outside doesn’t always tell us what someone may be going through.
You don’t have to wait until things feel unbearable to reach out.
You don’t have to prove that you’re struggling “enough” to deserve support.
1564 is here to listen. Free, confidential, and available 24/7.

Something we've wanted for a long time is now official.
Embrace has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Psychology at the Lebanese American University's School of Arts and Sciences.
Over the next three years we will work together on collaborative research, joint symposia and lectures, and shared applications for research grants. LAU students and faculty will work alongside our clinical team, and graduate students will have the opportunity to build their theses around real questions in mental health care in Lebanon.
For us, this milestone is about evidence. Lebanon's mental health needs are growing, and the research that guides how we respond has to reflect that. Rigorous, locally grounded evidence is what allows services to improve, and it is what allows us to keep making the case that mental health is a right and not a privilege. It is also how we train the next generation of psychologists to carry this work forward.
To everyone at LAU who made this happen, thank you. A special thank you to Dr. Haidar Harmanani, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, and to the Department of Psychology team for their commitment to this collaboration.

Embrace funded by the Lebanon Humanitarian Fund (LHF) conducted an awareness session on su***de prevention and the National Lifeline 1564 at Ain Aar – Mount Lebanon, in collaboration with Institut de Rééducation Audio-Phonétique (IRAP) bringing together 17 Lebanese participants, both female and male, aged 14–19, including persons with hearing disabilities. A sign language interpreter was present to ensure accessible and inclusive participation throughout the session.
The session aimed to create a safe and inclusive space for young people to learn about emotional well-being, develop emotional support skills, explore coping strategies for everyday stressors, and learn ways to support others.

On World Humanitarian Day, we honour the kind of humanitarian work that often goes unseen.
The people who listen, reassure, and stay present when someone needs it most. The people who choose to show up, even when no one is watching.
To every volunteer behind the National Lifeline 1564: thank you for being there. 🤍
