Southern Cup XII : Inter Plantation Cricket Tournament 2026 – (Galle Region)

The Southern Cup XII – Inter Plantations Cricket Tournament 2026, organized by the Plantation Human Development Trust (PHDT) – Galle Region, concluded successfully with enthusiastic participation from Regional Plantation Companies (RPCs).

Date : 11th July 2026

Venue : BOI Ground, Koggala.

The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Chaminda Senarathne, Chief Operating Officer of Maturata Plantations Ltd., and Mr. Geeth Kumara, CEO of Elpitiya Plantations PLC, as Chief Guests. Mr. Lal Perera, Director General of PHDT, attended as the Guest of Honour, together with several distinguished representatives from the participating plantation companies.

Inter Plantation Cricket Tournament – Hatton Region 2026

The Hatton Region Inter Plantation Cricket Tournament – 2026 was successfully held on 4th July 2026 at the Dickoya Maskeliya Cricket Club Ground, Dickoya, organized by the Plantation Human Development Trust (PHDT) – Hatton Region.

The event was graced by Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Director – Health, PHDT, and Mr. Roshan Liyanage, Manager – Administration & HRD, PHDT, as the Chief Guests, together with representatives of the Regional Plantation Companies as Special Guests.

Teams representing Maskeliya Plantations PLC, Horana Plantations PLC, Kelani Valley Plantations PLC, Madulsima Plantations PLC, and Kotagala Plantations PLC participated in the tournament, displaying outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, and competitive spirit throughout the day.

Scholarship Awards Ceremony for University Entrants from the Plantation Community – 2026.

The Scholarship Granting Ceremony organized by the Plantation Human Development Trust was successfully held on 15th May 2026 at the Main Auditorium, Sethsiripaya, Battaramulla. The event was organized to recognize and encourage outstanding students from the plantation sector who gained university entrance for the academic year 2025/2026.

Over 150 students were based on order of merit awarded Startup Grants in recognition of their exceptional academic achievements and dedication towards higher education. This valuable initiative was generously sponsored by AHMAD Teas, Ethical Tea Partnership, and Serendib Flour Mills (Pvt) Ltd, whose continued support has greatly contributed towards uplifting the educational standards of children from the plantation community.

The ceremony was graced by several distinguished guests and representatives from Government Institutions, Plantation Companies, Trade Unions, and Donor organizations. The Chief Guest of the occasion was Mr. B.K. Prabath Chandrakeerthi, Chairman of PHDT. Among the other notable participants were Mr. Gunadasa Samarasinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure; Mrs. W.M.D.T.Wickremasinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs; Mr. K.S. Wijayakeerthi, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure; Mr. S.P. Vijekumaran, National Organizer of the Lanka Jathika Estate Workers Union (LJEWU) and Board Director of PHDT, Mrs. Sonali Neomi, representing of Ahmad Teas Pvt Ltd; Mrs. Yoga Perera representing Ethical Tea Partnership; Mr. Kalinga Wijesekara, representing of Serendib Flour Mills (Pvt).

The ceremony highlighted PHDT’s continued commitment towards enhancing educational opportunities within plantation communities and motivating the younger generation to pursue higher education and contribute meaningfully towards the development of society and the nation.

A successful donor consultative meeting with TWININGS

A successful donor consultative meeting with TWININGS group was held on 22 April, bringing together key stakeholders to strengthen collaboration on sustainable community development initiatives.
The meeting was chaired by the Director General, with the participation of senior representatives including DF, MOP, MME, HM, and a Programme Officer, alongside the TWININGS team. Representing TWININGS were Anna Jones (Director/International Markets & Corporate Communications), Rupert Byerley (Head of Botanical Procurement), Chandana B. De Silva (Managing Director), and Shiva Shankari.

During the discussion, PHDT presented its ongoing work as a non-profit organization, focusing on child care, welfare services, housing, water and sanitation, and broader community development efforts. Future plans were also shared, highlighting the need for continued donor support to enhance initiatives in housing, water quality, sanitation, gender equality, environmental sustainability, and human rights.

The TWININGS team emphasized the importance of the TWININGS Community Needs Assessment Programme (TCNA), outlining key criteria for estate-level social and environmental standards. They noted that identifying existing gaps and making necessary improvements will be essential moving forward. They also reaffirmed their commitment to sustainability by allocating a portion of their profits toward such initiatives.

Reiterating PHDT’s readiness to contribute to long-term social sustainability, the team showcased its capacity to support impactful development. A presentation on the Model Estate Initiative further demonstrated how these efforts can be effectively aligned within a broader sustainability framework.
We look forward to strengthening this partnership and driving meaningful change together.

In line with the 33rd Annual General Meeting of PHDT, held on 27th March 2026 at Grand Monarch, Thalawathugoda, a special segment was dedicated to recognizing outstanding performance across its regional operations.
