Once a month, something special happens in Kolonnawa. 💛

Our young persons with disabilities and their caregivers come together for a session that is built around one simple belief, that everyone in the room deserves their own space to breathe, connect, and just be.

While the young ones dive into sensory play, arts and crafts, social emotional learning activities with their peers and genuinely chaotic games that get everyone a little messy, their caregivers step into a room of their own. A space to share their dreams, voice their challenges, put down the weight of caregiving for a moment, and yes, do their very own arts and crafts session too that they were super invested in. Because caregivers are whole people, not just supporting roles.

Two rooms. Two groups. One community.

We are building long-term, tailored support and building curriculums and we need your support as we go forward.

In November 2025, Cyclone Ditwah struck Sri Lanka affecting all 25 districts and over 2.2 million people. For Persons with Disabilities, the impact went deeper and lasted much longer after the water receded. Even now, as the monsoon rains continue breaking down their homes, PwDs face deepened risk, deepened vulnerability, and a recovery and relief system that was never designed with them in mind.

Over the past few months, Yellowdot Community alongside Ability for Action, We for Rights, and ORHAN, listened to 150 households across the Northern, Central, Uva, and Western Provinces.

They shared what it meant to evacuate without warning, to lose the assistive device that made independence possible, to return to a home that was damaged, a clinic that was inaccessible, a road that was gone.

Their voices are at the heart of this video. And at the heart of everything we do.

With the support of our funders and community donors, we were able to provide dry rations, medication, assistive devices, accessible washroom construction, school supplies, and livelihood support to 150 PwDs and their families, reaching over 500 people directly impacted by Cyclone Ditwah.

But there is so much more to do.

The recommendations are clear. The communities are ready. And we are just getting started.
