Yesterday's Sri Lanka Natural History Society Monthly Lecture, sponsored by George Steuart & Company, reminded us that some of the most important contributors to life on Earth are often the ones we notice the least.
We extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Nirmalie Pallewatta for an engaging and insightful session that revealed the extraordinary diversity of Sri Lanka's insect life. From discovering species in unexpected habitats, including the Adam's Bridge Marine National Park, to highlighting Sri Lanka's remarkable diversity of endemic tiger beetles, the lecture demonstrated just how much there is still to learn about the country's smallest inhabitants. It also highlighted an important challenge. Despite their ecological significance, Sri Lanka still lacks a comprehensive understanding of its insect diversity. Continued research and contributions from citizen scientists will play an important role in building this knowledge for the future.
Insects form the foundation of healthy ecosystems. They pollinate plants, recycle nutrients, regulate pests, and support countless other forms of life. Understanding and protecting them is essential to preserving Sri Lanka's biodiversity and maintaining the ecological balance on which both nature and people depend.
We are grateful to the Sri Lanka Natural History Society for continuing to create opportunities for knowledge sharing and meaningful dialogue around Sri Lanka's natural heritage. Through Steuart Senehasa, George Steuart & Company is proud to support this long-standing lecture series and contribute to preserving and sharing the ecological legacy of our island for future generations.
Stay tuned for the next SLNHS Monthly Lecture as we continue exploring the remarkable biodiversity that makes Sri Lanka one of the world's most extraordinary natural landscapes.

Although often unnoticed, insects play a vital role in pollination, nutrient cycling, biological control, and maintaining healthy ecosystems. Understanding their importance helps us better appreciate the delicate balance that sustains life on our island.
Through Steuart Senehasa, we are proud to support the Sri Lanka Natural History Society in continuing this long-standing platform for learning, dialogue, and deeper appreciation of Sri Lanka's natural heritage.

This month's SLNHS (Sri Lanka Natural History Society) Monthly Lectures – Sponsored by George Steuart shines a light on one of the most overlooked yet essential components of Sri Lanka's biodiversity.
Insects are often unseen and underappreciated, yet they play a fundamental role in pollination, nutrient cycling, biological control, and maintaining healthy ecosystems. Despite their importance, growing evidence points to their decline and the far-reaching consequences this could have for both nature and people.
This month's lecture will feature Dr. Nirmalie Pallewatta, who will present ""Insects: The Almost Forgotten Biodiversity of Sri Lanka and its Importance"", offering fresh perspectives on why these remarkable creatures deserve far greater attention in conservation and public awareness.
Through Steuart Senehasa, our corporate social responsibility arm, we are proud to support the Sri Lanka Natural History Society in continuing this long-standing platform for learning, dialogue, and deeper appreciation of Sri Lanka's natural heritage.
We invite you to join us on 9th July and discover why protecting even the smallest forms of life is essential to preserving the ecosystems we all depend on.

Yesterday's session of the SLNHS Monthly Lecture – Sponsored by George Steuart & Company offered a fascinating insight into one of nature's most extraordinary phenomena: bird migration.
Delivered by Prof. Sampath Seneviratne, the lecture explored how advances in geo-tracking technology are transforming our understanding of migratory birds and their remarkable journeys. Participants learned how Sri Lanka serves as a vital stop along the Central Asian Flyway, supporting billions of birds that travel between hemispheres each year, including species capable of crossing some of the world's most formidable mountain ranges.
We are grateful to the Sri Lanka Natural History Society for continuing to create spaces that promote knowledge sharing and deeper appreciation of Sri Lanka's biodiversity. Through Steuart Senehasa, we are proud to support this long-standing lecture platform and the important conversations it fosters around our natural world.
Stay tuned for next month's lecture as we continue exploring the richness of Sri Lanka's biodiversity and the importance of preserving knowledge for future generations.
