“And when you hear of wars and tumults, do not be terrified, for these things must first take place, but the end will not be at once. ..., ‘Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.’” – Luke 21:9-10

“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. ….” – Matthew 24:6-7

Saudi Arabia intercepted six ballistic missiles launched by Yemen’s Houthi movement, according to Major General Turki al-Malki, spokesperson for the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen. Saudi air defences thwarted an attempt to target the cities of Taif and Yanbu, he said.

Al-Malki warned that further escalations and violations by the Houthis would be dealt with firmly. The interceptions come amid heightened tensions in the region and renewed fighting between Houthi forces and Yemen’s Saudi-backed government. The Houthis have stepped up military activity as the wider West Asia conflict continues to affect security across the region.

Yemen’s Saudi-backed government forces have repelled overnight Houthi attacks on the strategic Taiz-Aden route, government sources said. The mountain road is a crucial supply and travel link for government forces and civilians in Taiz, Yemen’s third-largest city.

The clashes come as the Iran-backed Houthis seek to consolidate recent territorial gains along the Red Sea coast, including areas near the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

The renewed fighting marks a sharp escalation in Yemen’s civil war, which had largely remained frozen since a 2022 truce. The latest violence has killed more than 700 people and displaced nearly 130,000, according to the UN.
