“Don’t think about it.”
“Stop being sad.”
“Just forget about it.”
"Don't be so emotional"

We say these things to ourselves when we’re overwhelmed. But when thoughts and emotions are suppressed for a prolonged period, they don’t simply disappear. Thought suppression doesn’t usually make thoughts go away. In fact, the harder we try not to think about something, the more it can keep coming back. 🧠

Instead of fighting the thought, notice it, acknowledge it, and let it pass. ❤️

CBT is such a powerful and versatile therapeutic approach, and it has been adapted for a wide range of psychological difficulties. 🧠

But that doesn’t mean CBT is automatically the right approach for every client. Evidence-based therapy isn’t simply about choosing a therapy that works well in general — it’s also about considering whether the approach fits the individual client, their preferences, needs, readiness, and how they respond to the treatment.

If a client doesn’t connect with or benefit from CBT, we may need to adapt our approach or consider another evidence-based therapy.

CBT is a powerful tool, but it isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. If it were, therapy would be a lot easier. 🤍

When life feels hopeless, miserable, or simply too difficult, it’s natural to feel drained and lifeless. 🤍

Sometimes, all you need is someone to hold your hand and listen, to talk about how difficult it has been.

It may not solve everything, but sometimes being heard can make you feel a little lighter🧚

When someone tells you they’re feeling suicidal, you don’t need to have the perfect words❤️

But some well-intentioned responses can accidentally increase shame, guilt, or isolation.

Instead of trying to convince them that they “have so much to live for,” focus on listening, taking them seriously, and helping them stay safe.

You don’t have to fix everything. Sometimes, simply saying “I’m glad you told me. I’m here. Let’s get through this together.” can be a powerful place to start.

Save this post, you may need these words someday. And share it with someone who might benefit from knowing what to say. 🫂

Online self-diagnosis quizzes can be a starting point for learning about yourself—but but none of them are able to provide valid diagnosis.

A real diagnosis requires a proper assessment by a qualified mental health professional.

You’ll often see “Psychology says…” or “Research proves…” online. But how do you know if it’s actually true?

There’s a lot of psychology misinformation out there. Don’t trust a claim simply because someone calls themselves a psychologist or has impressive credentials.

Check the source. Look for the original research, see whether it actually supports the claim, and check whether it has been published in a reputable, peer-reviewed journal.

Be curious. Be critical. Don’t believe something just because you saw it online—or because someone said, “Psychology says so.”

Confidentiality in Counselling: Your Story Is Yours to Share

Counselling is a confidential space where you can speak openly and safely. You have the right to decide what you share, with whom, and when.

A counsellor should not share your personal information with family or others simply because they believe it would be helpful. Confidentiality may have limits in situations involving serious safety concerns, legal requirements, or professional obligations.

Confidentiality isn't about keeping secrets. It's about creating a space where you feel safe enough to be honest. ❤️

Why do some people experience suicidal thoughts during stress while others facing similar circumstances do not? 💭🧠

Research suggests that su***de risk is multifactorial. Stress interacts with individual vulnerabilities, psychological pain, hopelessness, perceived entrapment, mental-health difficulties, previous experiences, social isolation, and available coping resources. 🤍

The Integrated Motivational–Volitional Model highlights defeat and entrapment, while the Three-Step Theory of Su***de emphasizes psychological pain, hopelessness, and connectedness. 🧩

✨ The key message is simple:

We can see someone’s situation, but we cannot always see how unbearable that situation feels to them.

Suicidal thoughts deserve support—not comparison or judgment. 🫂💙
