Evidence TV PERSONALITY OF THE WEEK

HON. GREGORY O. W. COLEMAN Inspector General of the Liberia National Police

For this week’s Evidence TV Personality of the Week, attention is drawn to IGP. Gregory O W Coleman, Inspector General of the Liberia National Police (LNP), a senior Liberian law-enforcement official whose tenure has been marked by institutional reform, public safety operations, professional accountability and high-profile national security investigations.

Hon. Coleman has served as Inspector General of the Liberia National Police since February 2024, according to his professional profile.

His responsibilities include providing leadership to the country’s national police institution and coordinating efforts aimed at maintaining public safety, strengthening police professionalism and improving the relationship between law enforcement and communities.

Educational and Professional Background
Coleman has an academic background that includes Cuttington University, the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and Harvard University.

His professional profile lists Harvard University among his educational experiences, including participation in Harvard Kennedy School’s Senior Executives in National and International Security program in 2015–2016.

His connection to GIMPA was also highlighted during the institution’s 2024 graduation activities, where he was identified as Liberia’s Inspector General of Police.

Leadership at the Liberia National Police
Since assuming leadership of the LNP, Hon Coleman has emphasized professional policing, institutional accountability, community engagement and reform.

In July 2026, the LNP launched its Strategic Plan 2026–2030, built around the Theme “Rebuilding Trust, Centering the People, and Securing Liberia Together.” The plan was presented as a framework for strengthening professionalism, transparency, accountability and public confidence in the police institution.

Focus on Accountability and Professional Standards Another major aspect of Coleman’s leadership has been the emphasis on internal accountability.

The LNP has undertaken investigations involving allegations of misconduct by members of the police, with professional standards mechanisms being used to examine the conduct of officers.

In April 2026, Inspector Coleman publicly addressed the investigation into the death of South African national Toni Khumalo, emphasizing the importance of evidence and adherence to the rule of law.

Role in Major National Security Investigations
Coleman has also been at the center of Liberia’s response to major narcotics investigations.

Following the June 2026 seizure of approximately 237.6 kilograms of co***ne at Roberts International Airport, Coleman publicly outlined the work of a Joint National Security Investigation.

The investigation involved multiple security institutions and examined the shipment, documentation, communications and other evidence surrounding the case.

The case became one of the country's most closely watched security investigations of 2026, placing the LNP leadership under significant public and political scrutiny.
International Recognition
Coleman’s work has also received attention beyond Liberia.

In May 2026, reports said he was designated for appointment as Co-Chair of the International Affairs Committee of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), an international professional law-enforcement organization. The designation was presented as recognition of his experience in policing, public safety, institutional reform and international cooperation.

A Police Leader Under Public Scrutiny
As head of one of Liberia’s most important security institutions, inspector Coleman has also faced public criticism and controversy over aspects of police operations and national security investigations.

Various media reports have raised allegations and questions concerning his handling of sensitive cases.

Inspector Coleman and the LNP have defended their actions and emphasized investigations, evidence and the rule of law.

These competing claims should be distinguished from established findings..

Evidence TV Personality of the Week
Hon. Gregory O. W. Coleman represents a prominent figure in Liberia’s contemporary law-enforcement landscape.

His tenure has placed strong attention on police reform, institutional discipline, national security investigations and the challenge of rebuilding public confidence in law enforcement.

As Liberia continues to confront issues surrounding crime, narcotics trafficking, public safety and police accountability, the performance and Leadership of the Liberia National Police remain subjects of significant national interest.

If you were asked to grade his leadership from 1-10
