The CDC's planned 22nd Anniversary and Militant Day celebration in Zwedru has hit a hurdle after Mayor Rita Kai Massaquoi disclosed that the party was never granted permission to use the proposed venue near Tubman Palace.

According to the mayor, CDC officials failed to follow the city's required procedures for securing public event grounds and began clearing the site without authorization. She clarified that notifying the city government of an event does not automatically grant approval for venue use.

The development now leaves uncertainty over whether the CDC will secure the venue or be forced to find an alternative location before the celebration.

A 25-year-old Nigerian inmate, Esther Okori, gave birth to a healthy baby boy on June 7, 2026, at Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County. She was taken to the hospital by the National Palace of Corrections under the directive of Prison Director Chrispin Doe.

Esther, who is serving a 10-year prison sentence for human trafficking and economic sabotage, was eight months pregnant when she was sentenced. With all her relatives residing outside Liberia, she is seeking financial and material assistance to care for her newborn baby.

As a journalist and Staff of Top FM Radio in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County, I Alexander Dweh Wulu commend the Liberia National Police (LNP) and the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) for organizing this important training on responsible security reporting. The initiative is timely and beneficial to the journalism profession.

However, I believe PUL should ensure that such opportunities are not limited mainly to journalists in Monrovia. Journalists in the counties also play a critical role in reporting on security issues, community challenges, and human-interest stories that affect thousands of Liberians outside the capital.

Most of the activities, workshops, and capacity-building programs organized by PUL tend to focus on journalists in Monrovia, while county-based journalists are often left out. Yet, we are the ones covering events in remote communities, reporting on local police activities, and bringing national attention to issues affecting our people.

This particular training would have been even more impactful if PUL had included at least five journalists from each county. Every county has a police detachment, and journalists there also need the skills and knowledge to report accurately and responsibly on public safety and security matters.

As PUL continues to strengthen journalism in Liberia, I encourage the union to adopt a more inclusive approach that gives county journalists equal access to training, professional development, and networking opportunities. Building the capacity of journalists across all fifteen counties will ultimately strengthen the media and improve public service journalism throughout Liberia.

LNP Cracks Down on Noise Pollution in Zwedru, Warns Motorcyclists Against Loud Sound Systems

The Liberia National Police (LNP) Grand Gedeh County Detachment has begun enforcing measures to reduce noise pollution in Zwedru City, with particular attention being given to commercial motorcyclists who operate with loud MP3 sound systems.

According to police authorities, the move comes in response to numerous complaints from residents who say excessive music and amplified sounds from motorcycles have become a growing disturbance in both residential and business areas.

Police say the campaign is intended to restore public order and create a more peaceful environment for citizens. Authorities noted that constant exposure to loud noise can affect people's well-being, interrupt daily activities, and negatively impact the overall quality of life in the community.

Speaking on the initiative, the LNP emphasized that the enforcement action is aimed at encouraging compliance with existing regulations rather than punishing riders. However, officers warned that individuals who continue to violate noise control measures may face penalties under the law.

The operation forms part of broader efforts by the Government of Liberia and relevant authorities to address increasing concerns about noise pollution in communities across the country.
