Celebrating Excellence from Buchanan Satellite!

LOIC is proud to celebrate 3 of our students from the Buchanan Satellite who have successfully completed their Internship and Advanced Technical Training at All Terrain Services (ATS) - Arcelor Mittal Liberia. 2 from Auto Mechanic Department and 1 from Electricity Department.

During their internship, they specialized in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (R&A) a field where women are making bold strides.

Special Shoutout to Edith D. Johnson who emerged as the DUX of the Internship Program. We are so proud of you.

These young people are graduating with additional skills, hands-on experience, and real industry exposure. This is what TVET is about, preparing youth for the world of work.

We also want to thank Edith D. Johnson for relentlessly challenging male-dominated trades and making headways for the next generation of female technicians.

Enroll at LOIC and enjoy double benefits:
Classroom training + Industry internship = Job ready graduates.

Congratulations to our Buchanan Satellite stars. You’ve made LOIC proud!

Rural Women Empowerment in B**g County

LOIC, in collaboration with Liberia Eco-Energy, successfully trained 50 women in Tailoring and Entrepreneurship at the LOIC Gbarnga Satellite.

At the end of the training, 24 women received modern solar sewing machines at an affordable price through this partnership.
Machine Value: ~US$525 each

Payment Plan to support beneficiaries:
60-day grace period→ initial payment: US$50 → Monthly payment: US$25 for 19 months

Speaking during the distribution, Eco Energy Liberia Founder & Executive Director, Nelson Papi Kolliesuah, described the initiative as a family-focused empowerment effort aimed at creating economic opportunities for women while improving the well-being of their families and communities.

Mr. Kolliesuah explained that the machines are advanced multi-system units that can operate using both electricity and solar energy. They come with solar charging capabilities and lighting accessories, allowing beneficiaries to work at night or in communities with limited electricity.

Gbarnga Satellite Manager, Rachel Paye, also commended the partnership with Eco Energy and expressed confidence that the program will continue creating opportunities for women across B**g County.

“We look forward to empowering more women and ensuring that they have the tools and support needed to improve their lives and contribute to their communities,” she said.

This is Rural Women Empowerment in action — giving women the skills + tools to build businesses and change lives.

Over the weekend, LOIC proudly participated in the TVET Story Award Ceremony hosted by the European Institute for Cooperation and Development (IECD).

The competition featured two trade areas: Electricity and Agriculture, with three TVET schools competing: LOIC, BDOTC, and BWI.

LOIC Agriculture department from Buchanan won 1st Place while the Monrovia Electricity department won 3rd Place.

As part of the award, USD $200 worth of training materials were presented to our winners to help make their work easier and more effective.

LOIC is grateful to IECD for supporting our vision of youth empowerment and skills development. Special thanks to the trainees who represented LOIC — you did a fantastic job and made the entire Institution proud!

On Friday, May 22, 2026, the LOIC Monrovia program celebrated its 30th Cycle graduation, with 176 trainees graduating across 8 disciplines.

Speaking at the ceremony, Guest Speaker Hon. Laraamend Shenkin Nyonton, Deputy Minister for TVET, Ministry of Youth and Sports, congratulated the graduates:

All graduates today took days, weeks, and months to labor, getting their hands dirty with field work. Today, you are ready to go into the society."

He highlighted LOIC’s legacy since 1977 as a tireless momentum of hope in Liberia. With over 70,000 trained since inception, the institution has consistently stepped in to rescue Liberian youth from unemployment.

He urged graduates to look beyond the event:
We must develop local skills to create jobs and empower our own people. Electricians, plumbers, builders, mechanics, and other technical trades remain essential to national development, infrastructure growth, and improved public services."

Hon. Nyonton reaffirmed the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ commitment to supporting TVET programs nationwide and encouraged graduates to become innovators, creators, and contributors to Liberia’s future development.

Mr. F. Rufus Monroe, Executive Director, closed the program by congratulating the graduates for their commitment throughout the training. He encouraged them not to sit idle but to enter the labor market with innovation, professionalism, and excellence. He also officially announced that training for the 31st Cycle is ongoing and called on more young Liberians to take advantage of the opportunity.

The graduation was graced by members of the Board of Directors, LOIC administration, partner organizations, parents, and our respective graduates.

Congratulations to the 176 graduates of Cycle 30! Liberia’s future is in your hands.
