✨ WHEN WORDS MET CELEBRATION! 🐝🇱🇸

The 2026 SBALE National Spelling Bee Competition officially began with an unforgettable Opening Ceremony — and what better way to set the tone than with the incredible energy of Makhubelu, our renowned Mosotho comedian and MC for the evening! 🎤😂

From laughter and music to motivation, recognition and anticipation, the evening brought together our spellers, teachers, parents, coaches, partners and supporters as we celebrated not only spelling, but the young minds behind the words. 📚✨

It was a beautiful reminder that the Spelling Bee is about more than competition. It is about building confidence, developing literacy, creating opportunities and giving Basotho learners a platform to shine. 🌟

And as SBALE celebrates 10 years of empowering young people through spelling and literacy, we are grateful to everyone who has walked this journey with us.

Today we pause to reflect on more than just a competition.
Today we reflect on 2 days that changed 150 lives. 📚🏆

On 3–4 September, the Manthabiseng Convention Centre became more than a venue.
It became a stage for courage. A classroom for discipline. A mirror for what’s possible when young Basotho are given the chance to shine.

161 learners. Grades 4–11. From every corner of the Mountain Kingdom. 🇱🇸
Some traveled hours. Some studied by candlelight. Some were the first in their families to ever stand on a national stage.

They misspelled. They recovered. They spelled words most adults wouldn’t dare to attempt.
And in doing so, they taught us something:
Literacy is not just about letters. It’s about confidence. It’s about voice. It’s about choosing not to be limited.

To our champions who took Positions 1, 2, and 3 — congratulations. You earned every letter.
To every learner who didn’t take a trophy home — you also won. Because you showed up.
