The U.S. Embassy greatly enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate with Honorable Minister Lejone Mpotjoane, Honorable Minister Nthati Moorosi, and Honorable Minister Thabo Mofosi the signing of an agreement for the Kobong Project between the Ministry of Energy and U.S. firm Convalt Energy. The project will provide Lesotho with 1,200 MW of hydropower and 4,600 MW of solar power as well as strategically valuable compute space through an AI data center. This is what we mean by trade over aid, a mutually beneficial investment that places Lesotho at the center of the AI revolution.

Chargé d'Affaires Tom Hines recently met Dr. Robyn Waite of MinXray to discuss the company's ultra portable, AI-powered digital X-ray technology and what it means for TB elimination in Lesotho.

Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Monica Schneider and Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Mahlape Morai held a joint press conference at the American Corner spotlighting the Lesotho Mounted Police Service's renewed commitment to accountability and community policing.

This milestone year, the United States marks 250 years of independence and 60 years of diplomatic relations with Lesotho!

For 60 years, that relationship has grown through programs like the International Visitor Leadership Program and the International Law Enforcement Academy, plus a new agreement with T-Connect (an authorized Starlink reseller) to boost communications and internet access.

Together, we're serving communities, strengthening connections, and working to deter transnational crime.

CDA Tom Hines and Honorable Minister of Environment Thabo Mofosi yesterday discussed shared priorities and opportunities to advance Lesotho's sustainable development. They highlighted U.S.-Lesotho cooperation, including transformative investments by two U.S. companies – Convalt Energy and Zipline – which can create jobs, strengthen energy security, improve health care service delivery, and accelerate economic growth.

The United States remains committed to working with Lesotho to foster innovation, investment, and a more prosperous future for both our nations.

U.S. Embassy staff in collaboration with the Lesotho Ministry of Health and Palladium (Data.Fi project), visited three health facilities in Maseru, Leribe, and Mohale’s Hoek. They conducted a Data Quality Audit to strengthen data quality, consistency, and reliability across Lesotho’s health information systems. Together, we are advancing the U.S.-Lesotho Bilateral Health Memorandum of Understanding, preparing Lesotho to take full leadership of its HIV/AIDS response.

This is the America First Global Health Strategy, working to benefit Lesotho.

The U.S. Embassy's Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Monica Schneider and the Lesotho Mounted Police Service's Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr Morai will host a press briefing at the American Corner to discuss how Basotho communities benefit from closer ties with law enforcement. The briefing will showcase how partnerships between law enforcement and the community help deter crime, with a focus on narcotics and protecting our neighbors from dangerous substances.

Congratulations to Malehlohonolo Likhapha Mahase, Hape Marite Mphale, Moratuoa Mratz Hlongwa, and Tokiso TKay Nthebe, four US Government Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders alumni representing Lesotho this week at the 2026 Alumni Forum on U.S.–Africa Commercial Partnerships in Kenya. Joining about 150 fellow alumni from across the continent, they will engage in vital discussions shaping the future of U.S.–Africa economic cooperation. We are honored by their continued leadership and commitment to strengthening this crucial partnership.
