Fuel is back in the headlines. Where things actually stand ⛽

Brent crude is back around 87 to 88 dollars a barrel, up about 5 percent in the past month and more than 30 percent on a year ago, climbing on renewed Strait of Hormuz tension. It had spiked past 120 dollars in late April, then eased over summer.

In Lithuania, diesel followed the same path: down from the spring peak to around 1.80 euros per litre by mid-July, and now ticking up again.

For road freight, the pattern matters more than the number. Fuel is a quarter to a third of the cost of a truck. When it swings up, down, then up again, it feeds straight into rates and makes pricing a moving target.

We cannot change the oil price. We can be straight about what drives cost and keep our pricing transparent as it moves.

A friendly reminder about the CMR 📄

It travels with your cargo on every international road shipment, and it decides everything if something goes wrong. Here is where to pay attention.

At loading
✅ Goods description matches reality, not just "parts"
✅ Correct number of packages, packaging type, weight
✅ Full addresses for sender and consignee
✅ Note any damaged or poorly wrapped cargo before it moves

At delivery
✅ Check the goods before signing, a clean signature means delivered in good condition
✅ Write damage on the CMR at that moment, and be specific: which pallet, what damage, how many pieces
✅ Take photos before unloading finishes
✅ Note the real delivery date and time

Afterwards
✅ Report visible damage immediately
✅ Check for hidden damage within days, not weeks
✅ Keep the signed CMR, it is what a claim stands on

Two minutes of attention at loading and unloading saves a lot of trouble later. Most failed claims come down to a rushed signature.

Cargo crime has moved from the roadside to the inbox 🔒

The fastest growing threat: the phantom carrier. Criminals register a transport company, build a credible profile, win a load, collect the cargo, and vanish.
How to protect yourself:
✅ Verify the carrier against the official registry in their country, not just their load board rating
✅ Confirm insurance directly with the insurer, using a number you found yourself
✅ Treat any last minute change of driver, vehicle or plate as a stop, not an update
✅ Use a collection PIN the driver must present at the gate
✅ Never change payment details from an email alone, always call back on a known number

None of it is complicated. It just has to be standard procedure, not something you do when a booking feels off.

New EU van rule from 1 July 2026 🚐

The tachograph requirement extends to vans over 2.5 tonnes and up to 3.5 tonnes used for international transport for hire or reward. Drivers also come under EU driving and rest rules.

The effect: more compliance, higher cost, tighter van capacity.

Our alternative: delivery through our terminals in Vilnius and Kaunas, with final transport on 6 to 8 loading metre trucks with tail-lifts. Consolidated, tail-lift equipped, and great for city centres and fixed, regular deliveries.

New road charge for anyone shipping to or through the Netherlands 🇳🇱
From 1 July 2026, the Netherlands swaps the Eurovignette for a per kilometre truck toll (vrachtwagenheffing). It applies to all trucks over 3,500 kg, foreign carriers included.

How the rates work:
a. From about 2 cents per km for light, clean trucks
b. Up to about 45 cents per km for the heaviest, oldest ones
c. A standard 40 tonne EURO6 truck: around 18 cents per km
d. Rising with inflation over time

The nuance: it is not simply a new cost on top. The old Eurovignette flat fee goes away, so for foreign carriers it is really a swap from a flat annual fee to pay per kilometre. Routes with a lot of Dutch kilometers will tend to cost more, occasional transit less.
We will keep our Netherlands pricing transparent as final rates are published.
