Two-stage opening. Excess flow protection. Built in 🛡️
Opening a high-pressure cylinder is the riskiest moment for your equipment. That's why our Ring Valve and Switch Valve are built around two safety functions:
🔹 Two-stage opening: gas pressure builds up gradually before full flow, protecting regulators from adiabatic shocks.
🔹 Excess flow protection: if a hose or downstream device fails, the valve limits the flow immediately.

Same protection, two ways to operate it:
🔄 Ring Valve: quarter-turn ring with ON/OFF indication visible from every direction
⚡ Switch Valve: lever with safety unlock button and large OPEN/CLOSED indicator

Both keep residual pressure in the cylinder and work with standard RPV filling tools.

Why Slow Opening Matters on Pneumatic Valves for Oxidising Gases ⏱️
Opening a valve is never a neutral event.

For manual valves, the industry recommendation is simple: open the valve slowly.
In addition, the traditional solution has been to install a Restricted Flow Or***ce (RFO) at the valve outlet. While effective in reducing the pressure surge, it comes with drawbacks:
- Permanent flow restriction
- Reduced system performance
- Potential particle retention and contamination points

When a pneumatic valve opens, the sudden release of pressure can generate a rapid pressure wave and high gas velocities throughout the downstream system. In oxidising gas service, this phenomenon can lead to adiabatic compression (often referred to as adiabatic shock), where pockets of gas are compressed so quickly that their temperature rises dramatically.

With oxidising gases such as O₂, F₂ or NF₃, the combination of adiabatic shock and even microscopic contamination, particles, or non-metallic materials can create local hot spots. Under the wrong conditions, these temperatures can exceed the ignition threshold of materials and, in the most severe cases, may even lead to stainless steel burn-through.

Our Approach: Slow Opening Integrated into the Actuator
Rather than restricting the process gas, we control the valve opening speed itself.
🔹 An integrated restriction within the oleo-pneumatic amplifier progressively slows valve opening
🔹 A non-return valve bypasses the restriction during closure, ensuring rapid and safe shut-off
🔹 Full Cv is maintained once the valve is fully open, with no compromise to process flow
🔹 Opening speed can be tuned by adjusting the actuator air pressure

This slow-opening technology is available on our cylinder valves D354, D356 and D389S, as well as their line valve counterparts D654, D656 and D689S.

In UHP gas systems, safety is not only about how well a valve seals. It is also about how it opens. Controlling the opening rate is one of the most effective ways to mitigate adiabatic shock and reduce ignition risks in oxidising gas service.

What does “ultra high purity” really mean? 🔬

At grade 6.0, a gas reaches 99.9999% purity, with total impurities limited to 1 ppm or less. But the number of “nines” is only part of the story.
