What turns a place you live in into a place you belong to?

We believe it starts with getting to know the people around us, their stories and the traditions that shape the place we live in, and having the chance to experience them first-hand.

Our multicultural hiking programme, Chemins croisés, brings together people with different backgrounds who might otherwise never meet: refugees, newcomers and local residents.

We walk together, talk, share experiences and discover places that are part of Luxembourg's heritage. And along the way, local traditions become a shared experience that brings us together.

At the Drauwen-a Wäifest in Grevenmacher, we learned about a grape harvest celebration that has been part of the Moselle region for generations. We watched the parade, met the W**e Queen and her court, and joined in the atmosphere of a local celebration.

Step by step, Luxembourg becomes more familiar, and shared experiences become part of our own stories too. 💛

📸 A big thank you to Kateryna Mostova photographer for capturing our Grevenmacher adventure!

🍇 From the vineyards to the w**e festival - what a day!

Last Sunday, our multicultural hike took us through the vineyards and countryside of Grevenmacher on our way to the Drauwen-a Wäifest. With people from different backgrounds walking side by side, we spent 8 kilometres discovering the landscape, sharing stories and getting to know another part of Luxembourg and its traditions.

Before reaching the festival, our group made a special stop to add our own touch to the day. Everyone wrote a message of gratitude on a giant grapevine branch on the poster - a beautiful collection of thoughts and thank-yous from the people who shared the walk.

And then came the celebration! 🎉
Grevenmacher was buzzing with music, colourful floats and crowds gathered for the Drauwen-a Wäifest. We watched the traditional parade, spotted the W**e Queen Lynn and her court, and enjoyed the atmosphere of Luxembourg’s beloved grape harvest celebration.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this Sunday so memorable! ❤️

📸 A big thank you to Kateryna Mostova photographer and Данил Фоменко for capturing the day on video and helping us relive these moments!

🔶 Missed this hike? No worries — our next multicultural hike is coming up on 27 September in Redange!

👀 What does a mythical creature have to do with our next hike? Join us and find out!

On September 27, we are heading to Redange for the Kropemannsfest, a colourful folk celebration that takes place here every year.

It is exactly the kind of day we love: refugees, newcomers and local residents coming together, getting out into nature, meeting new people and discovering Luxembourg’s traditions along the way.

We will start with an easy 8 km trail through the surrounding countryside. And then we will head to the Kropemannsfest and discover more about this unique Luxembourg tradition.

The celebration brings together local crafts, jewellery, food and entertainment. And, of course, Kropemann himself - a mysterious figure from Luxembourgish folklore, said to live in the local rivers and ponds and traditionally used to warn children not to get too close to the water.

🌿 10 days, countless discoveries, and a lot of new memories.

For the past two weeks, Sportunity’s Holiday Camp brought together children from refugee families for a programme filled with exploration, learning, movement and plenty of time spent together.

Over 10 days, we travelled across Luxembourg, discovering castles and museums, exploring nature, learning about bees, getting creative with our hands, programming robots, talking about mental health, and meeting people with inspiring stories to share.

A big thank you to all the places, organisations and educators who welcomed our children and shared their time and knowledge with them:

🏰 Larochette Castle
✈️ Luxembourgish Aviation Museum
🏭 Belval
🌲 Parc Le’h Adventures
🌿 Park Sënnesräich
🐝 “To Bee or Not to Bee” educational trail
🔨 Robbesscheier
🤖 Base1
💛 Happy Kids Academy
🏔️ Ricardo Matache and Keyvan Safavi

And, of course, there was plenty of sport along the way - from football and karate to other activities that gave everyone a chance to move, play and simply have fun together.

None of this would have been possible without the people who made these 10 days happen.

We are deeply grateful to André Losch Fondation for supporting this programme and helping make it possible.

We also want to recognise our incredible team who were there throughout all ten days of the camp: Евгения Долженко, Данил Фоменко and Abide Lynda.

Our thanks also go to the J.P. Morgan volunteers who joined us on several days of the camp, helping with activities, encouraging the children and bringing their time and energy to the programme.

📸 And a special thank you to our photographers Omar Ramos and for beautifully capturing so many moments from these ten days.

Ten days may not sound like a long time.

But when you fill them with new places, new experiences and people to share them with, they can leave a pretty big collection of memories. 💛

See you next time!

One of the unique features of our Holiday Camps for kids this year is the opportunity to meet inspiring personalities from different fields and hear their stories firsthand.

This time we were delighted to welcome Ricardo Matache and Keyvan Safavi, two young Luxembourgish climbers who took on an ambitious challenge together: reaching the summit of Mont Blanc.

For Ricardo, the challenge was particularly personal. He had very little mountaineering experience and he also had a fear of heights. Yet he decided to face it rather than let it stop him. Together with Keyvan, he trained hard for the climb, and after months of preparation, they reached their goal: the summit of Mont Blanc at 4,805 metres. 🏔️

During their meeting with the children, Ricardo and Keyvan shared their journey, talked about the difficulties they encountered and what it feels like to climb at such an altitude.

Their story reminded the kids that courage does not necessarily mean having no fear. Sometimes, it means being afraid and taking the next step anyway. It also showed that big achievements don't happen overnight. They require preparation, perseverance, trust and the willingness to keep going when the goal is still far away.

We are grateful to Ricardo Matache and Keyvan Safavi for taking the time to meet our campers, share their experience and inspire them to face their own challenges with courage and determination. 💚

Special thanks to photographer Omar Ramos for beautifully capturing these moments 📸

🧘‍♀️ Our next outdoor yoga session with Ioana Diana is coming up on Saturday, 12 September. Whether you are a refugee or a local, completely new to yoga or already enjoy practising, everybody is welcome to join!

But first, let’s get to know the person behind the practice.

Ioana is a Sportunity volunteer who generously shares her time and knowledge by leading our yoga sessions.

Her yoga journey began on the magical island of Nusa Lembongan, Indonesia. What started as a curiosity about what lies beyond the physical postures soon became a deeper exploration of yoga’s philosophy, stories and meaning.

Ioana joined Sportunity because she loves sharing what she learns and believes that movement can bring people from different backgrounds together.

She sees yoga as a space where differences and labels become less important. Moving, breathing and practising together can create a feeling of safety, connection and belonging, even if it lasts only for one hour.

Her sessions combine functional yoga, active meditation and breathing techniques. Most importantly, she hopes participants leave feeling a little more connected to themselves — whether they discover a new way to manage stress, feel stronger, or simply appreciate the time they gave to themselves.

And if you’ve never tried yoga before, Ioana has one message: yoga is for everyone. You don’t need to be flexible, fit or experienced. Just bring your curiosity and an open mind. Everything else can be adapted along the way. 😊

📅 Join Ioana for our next outdoor yoga session on Saturday, 12 September!
⏰ 9:00
💚 Free of charge
🧘‍♀️ Please bring your own yoga mat to the session. If you are a refugee and don’t have a mat, just contact our coordinator and we will provide one for you.
