3D Engineering

"Millimetre-accurate" gets thrown around a lot. Here's what it actually means on our jobs.

We scan with a Leica RTC360. On a good setup, that's sub-3mm accuracy per scan position, before registration.

But accuracy on paper isn't accuracy on site. What actually determines the final number:

— Scan overlap between stations (we target 30%+ minimum)
— Registration error, checked against control points, not just cloud-to-cloud fit
— Environmental conditions — reflective surfaces, glass, moving equipment all degrade a scan
— QA pass before delivery, not after a client complaint

A point cloud with no documented registration error isn't a survey. It's a nice picture.

If your BIM model, clash detection or fabrication drawings are only as good as the data behind them — ask your scanning provider what their registration tolerance actually was on your project. Not the spec sheet number. Yours.

In our daily work, we are used to relying on flawless geometry, laser precision, and digital twins. But tonight, during the shortest night of the year, even engineers step aside for the magic of traditions! While we spend the whole year scanning complex industrial facilities and creating perfect 3D models, tonight our key metrics change to:
* 📐 The perfect radius of the bonfire.
* 🌿 The flawless symmetry of woven oak leaf and flower crowns.
* 🧀 The precise calculation of traditional caraway cheese portions.
