Candle Library is a non-formal education program - operate libraries, enhance the habit of reading and improve knowledge and thinking skills of youths.
In 2011 the civil war between the central government and the Kachin Independence Army has started again. Due to the fighting more than 100,000 villagers had to leave their houses and became so called “Internally Displaced People”. Since more than three years they have to live in camps far away from their homes. The ones who suffer most are the children who have no access to any form of education. Our vision is to give these displaced children a chance to get access to education despite of the civil war around them. Therefore we build mobile libraries in IDP camps and train the local community how to take care of them. In addition we do several activities like knowledge dialogues, competitions and volunteer programs in order to give relief to the children. Once when the war is over and when people are allowed to return to their villages, we help them to take the libraries with them and build a brighter future through knowledge and education. The Very first day of 'Mung Sung' Summer English Course.

Candle team is conducting 'Mung Sung' Summer English and Arts Class for Youths from Mungna Lawang village of Wainmaw Township in Kachin State by the cooperation with local people.
Candle team founded 'Mung Sung' library in that village last 2 years ago and after few years later, villagers requested us willingly to organize education programs for them. Reading can change community!
