Air quality is expected to deteriorate further tonight into tomorrow, due to increased concentrations of Saharan dust particles.

Current PM2.5: 23 µg/m³

Individuals with asthma or other respiratory conditions, older adults, children, and people with heart disease may experience mild health effects.

🌎 Four Significant Earthquakes Recorded Worldwide on Wednesday, 24 June 2026

Four significant earthquakes were recorded around the world within a matter of hours, including a rare earthquake "doublet" off the coast of Venezuela, where two major earthquakes measuring approximately magnitude 7.2 and magnitude 7.5 occurred about 39 seconds apart.

Additional significant earthquakes were recorded near Japan magnitude 6.9 and in Northern California magnitude 5.6.

While the timing of these events is remarkable, seismologists do not consider them evidence of a single global earthquake event. The earthquakes occurred on different fault systems and in separate tectonic settings, and there is currently no evidence that they were directly connected.

Air quality across Montserrat is currently moderate due to elevated concentrations of Saharan dust.

Current observations indicate PM2.5 concentrations of around 30 µg/m³, which may affect sensitive individuals, particularly older adults, young children, and persons with heart or respiratory conditions, including asthma.

😷 Please take precautions by limiting prolonged outdoor activity, keeping windows and doors closed, and wearing a KN95 or N95 mask when outdoors if needed.

🌀 Tropical Weather Update: Wednesday, 17 June 2026

There is no tropical cyclone threat to Montserrat at this time.

Tropical Storm Arthur, the first named storm of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season, has formed near the middle Texas coast. The storm poses no threat to Montserrat.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to use this quiet period to update emergency supply kits, review hurricane preparedness plans, and stay informed throughout the hurricane season.

🌀 **DMCA Conducts Hurricane Preparedness Outreach at Lookout Warden Supported Unit **

Today, Wednesday, 10 June 2026, the Disaster Management Coordination Agency (DMCA) conducted a hurricane preparedness outreach session at the Lookout Warden Supported Unit.

A total of 26 residents and community members attended the session, including senior citizens, persons with disabilities, persons who are blind, caregivers, and other residents from the surrounding community.

DMCA Information and Education Officer, Shirlian Queeley, spoke about the importance of hurricane preparedness and the Agency's message: "Be Prepared. Stay Prepared. It Only Takes One." Topics discussed included understanding hurricane risks, developing a family emergency plan, and preparing an emergency kit with enough food, water, medications, and essential supplies to last for at least three days.

As part of the outreach activity, some participants who did not have access to emergency preparedness items were presented with flashlights and battery-operated radios. However, several vulnerable residents are still without these essential items.

The DMCA hopes to continue working with partners and the community to ensure that vulnerable residents across Montserrat have access to basic emergency supplies, including radios, flashlights, and batteries, to help them stay informed during emergencies.

Residents and community groups interested in learning more about hurricane preparedness are encouraged to contact the DMCA for information and educational support.
