Building Africa’s future is not a solo endeavour, it is an alumni-led movement.
Over the weekend, our community gathered in Harare, Zimbabwe, for the inaugural ALUmni Southern Africa Regional Summit.
Across Southern Africa and beyond, ALU alumni are building game-changing ventures, leading with remarkable drive, and actively shaping the continent's trajectory. The Harare Summit was designed to match that brilliance with opportunity, bringing our leaders together to open doors, pool resources, and back one another as we grow.
Over two high-impact days, our alumni proved the power of collective leadership through candid conversations on Building With Purpose and live venture pitches at The Alumni Pitch Den, where founders secured over $37,500 in Mastercard Foundation grant funding to propel their innovations to the next level.
This is what happens when a community takes Africa's future seriously. To all the alumni, speakers, and partners who joined us in Harare, thank you for leading by example.

Looking back at the incredible energy from our Career Pathway Series 2026
Over two high-impact days, 103 students showed up to invest in their futures, connect with industry leaders, and lay the groundwork for their careers.
The line-up was packed with transformative experiences. We kicked off with an HR Panel where industry professionals shared raw, real-world lessons on Building Resilience and Adaptability. Students then moved into speed mentorship sessions with ALU staff for unscripted, direct 1 onc1 career advice, followed by parallel workshops on Graduate Studies, Entrepreneurship, and Employability that delivered actionable roadmaps rather than just abstract inspiration.
One of the standout moments was the Student and Alumni Hour, where student founders Andrew, Samuel, and Deng pitched the ventures they built right here at ALU. To top it off, our Career Fair connected students directly with top employer partners offering hands-on internships and career opportunities.
With an overall student rating of 4.7 out of 5, the message was clear, our community is eager for even more employer connections, deeper Q&A sessions, and more platforms for student voices on stage.
A heartfelt thank you to every speaker, mentor, student, member of the SPD team, and participating employer partners. You proved what is possible when a community takes career development seriously.

Leadership is not defined in the boardroom or lecture hall. It's proven on the ground.
This past Saturday, ALU’s leadership team, staff, and students led by our CEO, Sidee Dlamini were in Jabana to take part in Umuganda, Rwanda’s powerful monthly tradition of unity, civic responsibility, and community service.
Working side-by-side with local representatives from the City of Kigali, Gasabo District, and Jabana Cell, as well as CP Christopher Bizimungu and CP Barthelemy Rugwizangoga from the Rwanda National Police, we put our core values into motion.
Developing Africa’s next generation of ethical, entrepreneurial leaders requires more than classroom theory. It demands getting into the soil, building trust, and serving shoulder to shoulder with the communities that host us.
Not the future leaders, but The CURRENT leaders.
Congratulations to the ALU and ALUSB Class of 2026. The energy, the passion, and the commitment to transforming Africa were on full display. The world is not ready for what this group is about to achieve!
