Get Wet is dive shop in the Mexican Caribbean that offers tours as well as instruction by women. Chac -mool. The first cenote I ever dove. I rubbed my mask because I didn’t know the halo line was what made everything blurry. The water disappeared from its clarity. A I looked out at the entrance peaceful blue like no other.
That day I didn’t know I would return again and again… decades. I would see the water change. Watch my colleagues age. Understand the history of the earth that formed them and see different things because now I know what I am looking at. I changed more than the cave did, but because I changed what I looked at did too, now it has a different meaning, something I can appreciate more than just the physical beauty.
