Uncle Ahmad, the gentle soul and coffee-making genius behind the delectable brews at Angamias in Johannesburgโs Oriental Plaza, is one of those people. Quietly warm, wonderfully humble and a coffee maker extraordinaire, he reminded me that sometimes the most memorable stories are found in the simplest conversations โ over a really good cup of coffee or masala tea. โค๏ธ๐ฅ๐ฟ๐ฆ

What an incredible Womenโs Day luncheon, organised by the KZN Tamil Federation together with KNFT Shipping & Women of Africa (WOA). Cooking for such a magnificent gathering was a privilege, but interacting with the guests, sharing the food and feeling their energy made it truly special. I had an absolute blast! โค๏ธ๐ฟ๐ฆ๐ฅ

๐ฆ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ด๐ฒ๐ฟโ๐ ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ-๐ฌ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ-๐ข๐น๐ฑ ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฆ๐ต๐ผ๐ฝ - I travelled to the little town of Stanger, about 50km from Durban, to film for Shankar's Sappadu Stories, only to discover ๐๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐๐ โ ๐ฎ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ธ๐ฎ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ-๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ-๐ผ๐น๐ฑ ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐๐ต๐ผ๐ฝ ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ถ๐ป ๐ต๐ถ๐๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐, ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐. What I found was more than an old barber shop; I found a sense of history, an unexpected spiritual connection, and plenty of laughs along the way. โค๏ธ๐ฟ๐ฆ
๐๐ต๐ฒ๐๐๐'๐ ๐ง๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ฎ๐, ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฟ๐ฆ - I had an absolute blast filming this episode of Shankar's Sappadu Stories South Africa with Sean and Alvin Chetty. Their legendary Durban curries were every bit as good as I'd hoped, and I was delighted to cook my own version of Meen (Fish) Kulambhu for their customers. Tasty food, warm and generous owners, and another unf Durban experience. โค๏ธ๐ฅฐ๐ฅ
๐ข๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ฟ๐, ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฟ๐ฆ - Beyond the incredible food, this vibrant Muslim enclave is rich in history, culture and community. I was honoured to receive a personal tour of the iconic Soofie Mosque and Overport by my friend, Haniff Hoosen, while filming Shankar's Sappadu Stories South Africa. A memorable experience. ๐ฅฐ๐ฅ

This Sunday, we are cooking Ammaโs Kolli Kulambhu (mumโs style chicken curry with potatoes), Naatu Aadu Peratal (local goat dry masala), Meen 65" (spiced boneless fish fried ala-minute), Pudulangai Kootu (snakegourd with ghee dhall), Ammaโs Potato Egg Salad (mumโs style potato egg salad), Inji Puli (ginger pickle), Basmati Nei Soru (steamed Basmati ghee rice), Thakkali Rasam (tomato rasam) and Papadams.
