1 from 2 on Blue Marlin today

Started from beautiful Linene today on good ship Strenue and got a fish for Andrew Gillespie.

We lost our Stubby tube last week on a fish that turned on us but the great people at sent us replacments pretty fast, rigged the new one last night and bang, 10 minutes into it this morning she hooked up…AGAIN! And, raised the second fish!

Bit of a blow tomorrow but back at it on Saturday.

6 from 8 on Blue Marlin including a #600 and a #500 and raised another 3 in the last three days.

On Friday we had some incredible tuna action in the morning, raised one but no bite out of it and then released one for .velloza first ever Marlin

We had gnarly weather on Saturday but fast action in the morning. We got to the area at 8 and hooked up straight away and released the first for the day. Set them up and straight 10 minutes later hooked a double for Andrew Ross and Ant H***e and released both.

Then we hooked up on another which double up on me and we rode it over (yeah I messed up - s**t happens)! Then we hooked the 5th fish for the day which pulled the hook and raised a 6th fish that would not bite.

It was all the boys first ever Marlin!

Yesterday we had a slow start but found a floating fad late morning and enjoyed some fun on skipjack, rainbow runners, tropical Yellowtail and lost a good wahoo. Around there we finally hooked up and released that one and then just before we up lines at 2pm we got another for Paul Bartman

First Marlin for 74 year old Chris Murphy who has been on a quest to catch a Marlin since his honeymoon in Kenya 43 years ago!

He came from OZ along with his son in law .hanlon for two fishing days.

Sunday we had two lazy bites from Blues that never connected and released a dozen skipjack and YFT.

With a stiff Southerly yesterday we changed tactics and went north and after live baiting for a couple hours in the morning put the lures and went wide again. 

First tack in the area and we had a fish crash bite the short left. 

Chris got in the chair to deal with this very frisky and strong fish for the release.

Must say it was awesome to see how happy he was, well done mate!

It went quiet during noon although we did get into some crazy Yellowfin action, catching a bunch out of some double bites, they were there for the taking but we left them to concentrate on a fish for Ben.

Last tack in and it showed up, again on the same lure and we hooked up to a nice one that went absolutely ballistic on the bite, going over both right lines, then proceeding to dump us into the backing before we could turn and chase.
Cleared up, all under control and we ran alongside, picking line when it doubled back on itself and into the line just above the leader…. well you can't win them all!

If the Magnet was the flavour last week, this time it’s the Stubby Tube also from that has been getting all the attention. 

Unfortunately we lost our only one with yesterday's last fish but I am sure we will get reinforcements pretty soon!

It's crazy slow on the inside, light tackle guys crying! None of the winter species are here yet and no bait (jube jube's ) at all. 

Insanely we've been getting more game fish out wide than in the shallows - glad we got that option and with a pretty decent Blue Marlin bite (been 4 from 8 last four half days there) just hoping to be out there every day from Thursday went we start again - no other plan really!

released this beauty of an African Pompano on a popper late afternoon on Saturday. Not an everyday fish and beautiful size to it.
This after releasing a #300 pound Marlin earlier in the day and a small Black Marlin on popper the next day.

While deep jigging at a 100 meters caught this awesome grouper / rockcod (anyone knows the proper name - could not find it) whick we kept for the braai on the boat and which he reckons was the most delicious fish he ever tried...must say was right up there!

with one of a few amberjacks we released while deep jigging along with a cuta qhich where far and few in berween as was jube jubes so we did not target them at all.

After his #300 Blue on Saturday
released this small Black on a popper today.

We dont like to take them out but this frisky little guy got all wrapped so we had to slide him into a wet towel, undo the popper and leader, quick pic and send him on his way.

Rest of the afternoon was mostly light jigging and we released loads of fish from multiple species, mostly small fish but loads of action and fun!

Still some wind tomorrow so probably same plan...

Looked really good out wide in the morning with loads of Yellowfin and Skipjack and at 9am out deeper than where we found them yesterday released his first Marlin.

We caught a few YFT, skippies and a few other odds and end's and Brandon finished the early day with a magnificent African Pompano on popper.

Once again the Marlin magnet doing the job, every single bite on the lures including Marlin and YFT on her the last two days!!!

Big blow pushed in yesterday afternoon so we having a chilled day, enjoy some sashimi ad back at it tomorrow -  as always great time and day’s with







 
PS: Apologies for the profane language yesterday, we had a good laugh about it  - it was the Jameson talking!!!

Well done bud…epic!!!!

Its absolutely insanity, we got 30c water, like four degrees warmer that what we should have this time of year and something I never seen before in 26 years of fishing the archipelago.

El Nino or not…it is just so far fetched.

Consequently the game fishing is expectantly slow, got a  few ambers, cuta, job fish, trevally’s and some odd’s & ends yesterday but so fu***ng slow for this time of year.

Guys where keen to go out wide today..... and iam always so fu***ng happy to bring the big guns out!

Veleiro was out there yesterday, they pulled on a Blue and raised another three

Our other boat, IBO, released a Black around #400

Today we got the Black and pulled the hook on a Blue and Veleiro went 1 from 1 on a blue and raised another 2….the hot lure for the day, the litlle green devil, aslo know as the Marlin Magnet for

Thanks for the memorable times, it was not fast & furious but we certainly made the most of it and you guys worked extra hard for every single bite.

Pity about that ONE that got away ;-)

Another PB

This time for Hector (11) not wanting to be outdone by his sister Sisi (the jigging machine)!!!

Absolute champ in the making, the boy worked tirelessly and released a bunch of fish, but this beauty that fell to a live jube-jube on spinning tackle was his new personal best!

Well done boy...amazing!!!

Just got to love fishing with the young crowd!

Sissy, the jigging machine with her PB fish!

This young girl is absolutely amazing with her enthusiasm, stamina and most of all her technique with a jigging rod as to be seen to be believed.

At times, in the shallow reefs and when the game fish were not running, I actually had to tell her to slow down so as to get some more bites from other species!

And to utter amazement when we went deep water jigging and the boys brought out the big guns and 300+grs jigs there she came with a fairly light rod and a 200gr jig. I rolled my eyes but, despite the 100 meter depth she worked that jig beautifully and got into a few striped bonito. Then to top it off and not to be  outdone she hooked, fought and released this beauty of an amberjack for her personal best!

Among many other species, late in the afternoon she also released a beauty of a Yellow-spotted trevally to finish the day on a high.

Well done girl - you rock!
