President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says Namibia will develop oil, gas and green hydrogen in parallel, rather than viewing them as competing energy options. Speaking at Unstoppable Africa 2026 in New York, she said the resources must help close Namibia’s energy gap, drive industrialisation and create jobs and skills. She also highlighted youth training through Project Hyphen and Petrofund’s role in developing oil and gas skills.

RansomHouse Ransomware Group Linked to MODVA Cyberattack

Namibia’s Cyber Security Incident Response Team, NAM-CSIRT, has confirmed unauthorised activity within the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs network. Analysis indicates the incident is linked to the RansomHouse ransomware group, known for encrypting systems and threatening to release allegedly stolen data. NAM-CSIRT is supporting the investigation, recovery and strengthening of the Ministry’s cybersecurity systems.

Namibia Relaunches National Cleanup Campaign

Namibia has relaunched the National Cleanup Namibia Campaign as part of World Cleanup Day under the theme “From Clean Plates to Clean Cities.” Environment Minister Indileni Daniel warned that poor waste management contributes to disease, water contamination and pests. She called for stronger public participation and urged young people to view waste as an economic opportunity through recycling. The campaign will focus on clean-up activities, public awareness and behavioural change.

The NIPDB and FirstRand Namibia have convened nearly 40 business leaders to address Namibia’s decline in global competitiveness. The country ranked 69th out of 70 economies in the 2026 IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook, down from 68th out of 69 in 2025. Business leaders highlighted regulatory delays, manual processes and limited government system integration as key challenges, and proposed faster implementation, digital integration and stronger public-private cooperation.

Namibia’s Beer Exports Surge to Record July Volumes

Namibia’s alcoholic beverage exports increased sharply in July, driven by beer shipments. The Namibia Statistics Agency says the country exported 25,236 hectolitres of beer, accounting for nearly 90% of total alcoholic beverage exports. Overall beverage exports rose to 28,609 hectolitres, up from 17,552 in June. South Africa remained the main destination, followed by Tanzania, Zambia and the DRC.
