🌍💬 On , we recognise and pay tribute to language professionals and to the vital role of language, translation and cultural knowledge in connecting communities, fostering understanding and advancing inclusive development.
Development initiatives — including scientific, technological and digital interventions — are most meaningful when they can be understood, shaped and owned by the communities they are intended to serve. In , this includes recognising and preserving the richness of Indigenous and local languages and the knowledge embedded within them.
Through a partnership between UNDP in Namibia, NUST Namibia and the UNESCO Chair in Digital Technology Design with Indigenous People, we are developing — a living digital cultural archive built by and for Namibian communities.
By inviting communities to translate sentences and validate phrases, helps preserve the original meanings, sounds and expressions that make each language unique. It is also an example of how digital technology can support cultural preservation while strengthening participation and inclusion.
Namibia also features in UNDP in Namibia’s “Data to AI Value Chain” brief, highlighting work on multilingual interfaces for national digital identity programmes.
Language is not simply about communication. It is closely connected to identity, culture, social inclusion, education and access to development opportunities. Ensuring that digital systems recognise and accommodate linguistic diversity is therefore an important part of building a more inclusive digital future — one that works for people and planet. 🇳🇦🌱💻

Namibia launched its Third Updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) under the theme, “Towards a Climate-Resilient Namibia : Advancing Climate Solutions through Namibia’s NDC 3.0.”
NDC 3.0 sets out Namibia’s climate action priorities under the , with a focus on reducing emissions and helping communities, ecosystems and key sectors adapt to climate change.
Building on Namibia’s previous NDC, NDC 3.0 strengthens action across water, agriculture, energy, land, biodiversity, health and infrastructure, while linking climate action more directly to national development priorities.
For Namibia, climate action is about more than the environment. It is about protecting livelihoods, strengthening water and food security, creating investment opportunities and building resilient communities.
🤝 UNDP Namibia, through the Climate Promise Initiative, is supporting the Government of Namibia and the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism to strengthen the NDC process and turn climate commitments into practical, measurable action.
