While the President Tinubu Federal Government has been often referred to as “A Government of Rice”, it would be recalled, that in April 2026, for instance, the First Lady, Pastor Oluremi Tinubu, launched the distribution of 100 trucks of rice and N1.2 billion in palliative support to vulnerable households, across the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT. However, the bigger question is: How long can a bag of rice or small cash in hand, solve a deep systemic and structural problem?

Rice may feed a family for days or weeks, but it cannot permanently solve unemployment, poor healthcare, inadequate education, low household income, lack of skills and the absence of sustainable economic opportunities for Nigerians. Indeed, the depth of the current cost-of-living crisis shows that many Nigerians require more than temporary reliefs.

It is against this backdrop that the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and its 2027 Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, propose a Permanent Social Protection System.

Rather than relying primarily on emergency interventions, Atiku and ADC are proposing a Social Protection Act, that would make support for vulnerable Nigerians a permanent responsibility of government. The Plan includes targeted subsidies linked to Education, Healthcare and livelihoods; while giving States and Local Governments greater responsibility for delivering Social Protection Programmes.

The Proposal is designed to address poverty from several directions at once, and permanently. A vulnerable family would receive assistance to keep children in School, access Healthcare and develop a sustainable source of income; rather than repeatedly depending on emergency food distributions.

Most importantly, the proposal shifts the conversation from how to manage poor Nigerians, to how to make Nigerians less poor.

The objective is not to create a population permanently dependent on government assistance, but to invest in Education, Healthcare, skills and livelihoods, so that Nigerians can become more productive and economically independent.

This is where Atiku and ADC's Proposal differs in philosophy from the familiar cycle of palliatives: The government should not simply give Nigerians something to survive on; it should create the conditions that enable Nigerians to earn enough to survive, without constantly waiting for government handouts.

Thousands of young Nigerians in the African Democratic Congress, ADC, filled the Eagle Square Annex, in Abuja, on Wednesday, August 12, 2027, for the highly anticipated ADC Youth Summit.

When the ADC 2027 Presidential Candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, walked to the podium for his address, the room was quiet; he did not start with a political statement; he started with a warning.

“Before I go further”, Atiku said, “let me speak directly to INEC, the Security Agencies and the Tinubu administration about the Osun State Governorship election”.

He went ahead to name what everyone in the room had been seeing on their social media timelines: Convoys, armoured vehicles, roadblocks.

Atiku stated: “What we are witnessing in the build-up to that election, is deeply troubling. The scale and posture of Security deployment, make it appear as though Nigeria is preparing for war, rather than conducting an election.”

Then, he looked straight at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and declared: “Osun is a test. There must be no mysterious glitches. No unexplained delays. No manipulation of the process. Election materials must arrive promptly. Accredited voters must be allowed to vote freely. Votes must be counted honestly, and results must be transmitted transparently and in accordance with the Law.”

The ADC Youth Summit erupted in a thunderous applause, but Atiku was not done. He called out the President Tinubu administration by name: “Tinubu must resist any temptation to turn Institutions of the Nigerian State into instruments of partisan advantage.

“The Police belongs to Nigeria. The Military belongs to Nigeria. INEC belongs to the Nigerian people. None of them belongs to the APC.”

He told the charged crowd of young Nigerians, that history is on the side of those who stand for unity and democracy.

According to him, the task ahead is similar to what Lincoln faced in America.

He said exactly: "Just like Abraham Lincoln stood firm to preserve the union and give the people their freedom, this is our moment to stand firm and restore Nigeria. Age cannot stop us from kicking President Tinubu out of power in 2027.”

Atiku speaking further, stated that Nigerians are tired of promises without results, and that the ADC is presenting itself as the credible alternative to deliver jobs, security and economic stability, for all people.

He added that the youths will be at the centre of the rescue mission, because they have the numbers and the energy to determine the outcome of the next Presidential election.

The declaration triggered celebrations in Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt, Lagos and other cities nationwide, where party members watched the Summit live. On the social media, trended for hours, as supporters posted videos of rallies and prayer sessions.

ADC Party Leaders described Atiku's speech as the clearest signal yet, that the opposition is mobilising early for the 2027 elections.

They said that Atiku’s reference to Lincoln, was to underline his commitment to national unity, rule of law, and giving every Nigerian a fair chance.

Atiku closed by urging Nigerians to get their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, and protect their votes on election day.

The timing could not be any worse for the President Tinubu administration and the APC. Osun State is a key South-West State in Nigeria, and a political battleground, where the APC is desperate to reclaim ground, ahead of the 2027 Presidential election.

With the 2027 general elections already shaping conversations, any sign of electoral violence or rigging in Osun State, will be used nationally and internationally, to test the credibility of President Tinubu’s government and leadership

By tagging President Trump directly, Davido has internationalised what would ordinarily be treated as a domestic political issue. The US has historically been vocal on Nigeria’s elections; issuing visa bans and sanctions after the 2019 and 2023 polls, over acts of voter intimidation.

A statement or even a tweet from the President Trump administration referencing Davido’s appeal, would immediately place the APC and INEC under a global microscope.

For President Tinubu, the call is a political headache. His government has been selling a message of democratic consolidation and economic reforms to foreign Partners. The warning signs ahead of the August 15, 2026, Osun State Governorship election, are no longer whispers; they are now technical, documented and coming from the highest levels of opposition Leadership.

In a Press release dated August 11, 2026, former Vice President and 2027 Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar, raised an alarm, over what he described as a deliberate decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to run Nigeria’s elections on obsolete technology, with Osun State set as the first test case.

Atiku’s concern stems from two developments. The first was the mock-accreditation failures recorded in Osun State, on August 1, 2026. The second was a television appearance on Monday, by INEC’s Director of ICT, Dr. Lawrence Bayode, on Arise Television. Bayode had admitted that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, first deployed in 2021, is still running on Android 10.

What he did not disclose however, according to Atiku, is that Android 10 reached its end-of-life in 2023. That means the operating system no longer receives Security updates or patches from Google. Running a national election platform on an unsupported OS is not a minor oversight. It creates vulnerabilities that can be exploited, and Atiku revealed that the failure to fix it ahead of a major off-cycle poll, was intentional.

The risks outlined are specific and troubling. An outdated operating system can allow criminal elements or hackers to gain root access to BVAS devices. Once inside, they could alter cached voter logs or polling unit result files, before those results are transmitted. Because BVAS machines must send results over public telecommunications networks to the INEC Result Viewing Portal, old cryptographic foundations also raise the possibility of Man-in-the-Middle attacks.

In simple terms, data packets can be intercepted, blocked, or manipulated, while in transit. The problem extends to biometrics as well. BVAS handles both fingerprint and facial recognition. An outdated biometric framework reduces accuracy and makes the system more vulnerable to spoofing through photos or fake fingerprints.

There is also the issue of stability. Bugs and memory leaks in legacy software can cause the application to crash during peak voting hours; producing the same "technical glitches" and long accreditation delays witnessed in previous elections.

Atiku’s central question is about money and motive. INEC receives billions of naira in annual allocation. Why then has the Commission not updated the BVAS software long before 2027, or even before off-season elections, like the Osun State Governorship election, where an updated version could have been tested?

The answer suggested in the statement is that this is not about funding. It is about design. The nonchalant handling of BVAS, the statement argues, is a deliberate attempt to subvert the integrity of the country’s elections.

Osun State matters, because it is a key South-West battleground, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, lost it to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the last Governorship election cycle.

The party is desperate to reclaim it ahead of 2027. Any failure of accreditation, any problem with IReV transmission, any crash on election day in Osun State, will set the template for how the 2027 general elections will be managed, nationwide.

For President Tinubu and the APC, the timing could not be worse. The administration is already battling public anger over economic hardship and the cost of governance. Any perception that INEC is being primed to tilt the field, will damage both the party’s chances in Osun State, and the President’s democratic credentials before International Partners.

The attention of "Atiku Is For The People" global movement, has on Tuesday, been drawn to a viral video showing an All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator representing Osun East, Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, openly authorising the murder of opposition party members, ahead of the Osun State Governorship election.

In the video, the APC Senator said exactly: "From now on, whenever you see Accord Party members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too. This is a Federal Government election. On election day, even if they come with voters card, we wont allow them to vote."

Nigerians, this is not a slip of tongue. This is not a joke. This is the 2027 elections script playing out already.

Step one: Send a Senator to publicly order the killing of opposition members, so that everyone gets afraid.
Step two: Allow Police inaction, so that people know the Law will not work.
Step three: Use violence on the election day to chase voters away.

That is the playbook the APC are test-running in Osun State right now, under President Bola Tinubu's watch.

For the APC under President Tinubu, it is better to kill everybody, than to lose power in 2027. That is why a Senator can order for killings today, and still walk freely tomorrow. President Tinubu, this is your party. This is your Senator. Speak now. If you do not order for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Senator Fadahunsi, then Nigerians will conclude that this script has your approval. Silence is consent. Inaction is endorsement.

We have seen this movie before. In 2023, European Union Election Observers reported voter intimidation and attacks on supporters of opposition parties, and nothing came from it locally.

Also, in Osun State 2022 Governorship election, Yiaga Africa documented Party Agents intimidating voters. Now in 2026, it has moved from intimidation to open calls for murder. The target is 2027. The goal is to keep President Tinubu in power perpetually, by making Nigerians too scared to vote.

We demand the immediate arrest of Senator Fadahunsi by the IGP. We demand that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and Security Agencies protect the voters in Osun State, before, during and after the Governorship election. We demand that President Tinubu addresses Nigerians today, and disowns this blood-stained script. We dare him to!
