🌍 International Youth Day 2026

Today, we join the global community in celebrating the energy, ideas, and aspirations of young people.

Under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” this year’s International Youth Day reminds us that although young people face different realities, many share the same hopes for opportunity, dignity, inclusion, participation and a better future.

At the African Center, we believe meaningful youth participation is essential to strengthening governance, accountability and sustainable development across Africa.

Young people must not only be beneficiaries of development; they must also be active participants in shaping the policies, institutions, and solutions that define their future.

AI is transforming financial crime detection—but are legal and regulatory systems keeping pace?

From identifying suspicious transactions to analyzing complex financial data, artificial intelligence is changing how institutions prevent and respond to financial crime. However, its growing use also raises important legal, ethical, compliance, and regulatory concerns.

The African Center, in collaboration with the Nigerian Bar Association Anti-Money Laundering Committee (NBA-AMLC), invites legal practitioners and other stakeholders to an AML/CFT webinar on: “Artificial Intelligence and Financial Crime Detection: Opportunities, Risks and Regulatory Challenges.”
The session will explore the opportunities presented by AI-powered tools, the risks associated with their use and misuse, and the implications for legal practitioners, compliance professionals, and relevant institutions.

Human trafficking into scam operations is spreading. What began in Southeast Asia has spread to Africa, Europe, Latin America and beyond.
A united and coordinated international response is essential.
UNODC - United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime is:
· Training criminal justice practitioners and frontline responders.
· Conducting research to understand evolving trends.

The African Center recently met with the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Dr. Abdullahi Usman Bello, and his team to strengthen the relationship between both institutions. The visit opened discussions on new areas of deepening partnership, including institutional strengthening, public integrity, capacity development, and digital transformation.

We look forward to building on our longstanding partnership with the Bureau and supporting initiatives that strengthen accountability, institutional effectiveness, and public trust.

As Africa commemorates African Anti-Corruption Day 2026 under the theme, “Scaling Up the Promotion of Integrity and Anti-Corruption Actions Across Africa,” the Africenterdev calls for stronger enforcement, transparent asset recovery, whistleblower protection and accountable institutions.

This year’s theme challenges governments, civil society, businesses, institutions and citizens to move beyond awareness and translate commitments into measurable action.

For the African Center, scaling up integrity means improving beneficial-ownership transparency, protecting those who expose wrongdoing, and ensuring that stolen assets are recovered and managed accountably for the benefit of citizens.

Africa already has important legal and institutional frameworks. The priority must now be effective implementation, stronger regional cooperation, and demonstrable results.
Integrity is Africa’s future.
