HIGH CHIEF PETER OJONUGWA AMEH COMMISERATES WITH HON. DAVID IDRIS ZACHARIAS OVER THE LOSS OF HIS BELOVED MOTHER

High Chief Peter Ojonugwa Ameh has expressed his deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the Hon. David Idris Zacharias and his entire family over the painful loss of his beloved mother.

High Chief Ameh said he received the news of her passing with deep sadness, recognising the profound pain that comes with losing a mother, whose love, sacrifices, guidance and prayers often remain the foundation upon which her children build their lives.

He acknowledged that no words can adequately ease the pain of such a personal loss. He, however, urged Hon. Zacharias to draw strength from the beautiful memories of his mother, the values she imparted to her family and the lives she touched during her lifetime.

“Please accept my heartfelt condolences at this very difficult moment. I know that the loss of a mother leaves a deep void that words cannot easily fill. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

“May Almighty God comfort you, strengthen every member of the family and give you the courage to face the days ahead. May He forgive her shortcomings, receive her soul into eternal rest and grant the family the grace to carry her memories with love and gratitude.

“Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers during this period of grief.”

OLAMABORO RECEIVES HER ILLUSTRIOUS SON, HIGH CHIEF PETER AMEH, WITH POMP AND PAGEANTRY

There are moments when a community gathering becomes more than an event. It becomes a statement of belonging, acceptance and shared hope.

That was the atmosphere in Olamaboro as the people received their illustrious son, High Chief Peter Ojonugwa Ameh, with pomp, pageantry and an unmistakable display of affection.

The reception was colourful, but beneath the music, dancing and excitement was something more significant. It was a demonstration of grassroots connection. It was a community opening its doors to one of its own and creating an opportunity for a son to return home, meet his people and share his aspirations for the future.

The occasion drew dignitaries from across Nigeria, giving the homecoming a national character. Political figures, community leaders, friends, associates and supporters travelled to Olamaboro to identify with the occasion.

Also present were party stalwarts and political actors from the nine local government areas of Kogi East. Their presence underscored the wider interest the gathering generated across the senatorial district and provided an opportunity for people from different parts of Kogi East to converge in Olamaboro.

A major highlight was the presence of His Excellency, Peter Obi, presidential flag bearer of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.

Peter Obi's presence added colour and honour to the occasion and brought a prominent national political personality into a gathering whose roots remained firmly planted in the grassroots.

For the people of Olamaboro, his presence was another source of pride. It placed the homecoming within the broader national conversation about Nigeria's political future, leadership and development.

Yet, despite the array of dignitaries, the heart of the occasion remained with Olamaboro and its returning son.

Peter Ameh's reception was marked by warmth and enthusiasm. Traditional leaders, community members, women, young people, political associates and supporters came together to identify with him.

It was the kind of gathering in which political calculations temporarily gave way to human relationships.

Ameh came home not merely as a political aspirant, but as a son of the soil.

That distinction matters.

Grassroots politics is ultimately about relationships. People want to know those who seek their mandate. They want to hear them speak directly. They want to understand their character, their plans and their commitment to the community.

The reception provided Peter Ameh an opportunity to strengthen that relationship directly.

It also reflected the importance of empathy in leadership.

For the ordinary citizen, development is experienced through everyday realities. A farmer worries about access to markets and productive inputs. A young person worries about education, skills and employment. Women seek opportunities to strengthen their livelihoods. Communities want functioning schools, healthcare facilities, roads, water and security.

These concerns require leaders who are willing to listen before they speak.

That is why the significance of the Olamaboro reception goes beyond the spectacle of the day.

The people were celebrating their son while, at the same time, communicating their expectations.

They were affirming that political leadership must remain connected to the people.

They were also reminding anyone seeking public office that acceptance carries responsibility.

Peter Ameh's political journey has taken him through national political responsibilities, but the reception demonstrated the continuing importance of the grassroots in shaping political legitimacy.

The presence of political stakeholders from all nine local government areas of Kogi East was particularly significant. It transformed the gathering from a strictly local homecoming into a broader meeting of people connected by geography, political interest, culture and a shared concern about the future of the senatorial district.

The presence of dignitaries from different parts of Nigeria further widened the occasion's reach.

Still, the warmth of a homecoming cannot, by itself, determine electoral success. Ultimately, political support must be earned through credible programmes, character, sustained engagement and the ability to translate promises into measurable results.

But the human dimension of politics should not be underestimated.

A community that welcomes one of its sons with such enthusiasm is expressing something deeper than political calculation. It is affirming identity, relationship and expectation.

The occasion therefore carried two messages.

For Peter Ameh, it was a homecoming and a reminder of the responsibility that comes with the affection of the people.

For Olamaboro, it was an opportunity to welcome a son, celebrate his journey and communicate its expectations.

And for Kogi East, the gathering offered another reminder that the political journey towards 2027 will be shaped not only in formal political structures, but in communities, villages and homes where citizens decide who they trust to speak for them.

In Olamaboro, Peter Ameh came home.

He was received with pomp and pageantry.

He was received with love and warmth.

He was received by people from his immediate community and by political stakeholders and dignitaries from across Kogi East and Nigeria.

And, perhaps most importantly, he was received as a son.

OLAMABORO AWAITS: WHAT TO EXPECT AT PETER AMEH’S HOMECOMING OF GRATITUDE

As Olamaboro prepares to receive High Chief Peter Ojonugwa Ameh today, the gathering is expected to combine thanksgiving, political engagement, community interaction and a renewed conversation about opportunity in Kogi East.

This morning, attention turns to Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, where Ogugu, the local government headquarters, is set to host the homecoming of High Chief Peter Ojonugwa Ameh, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial candidate for Kogi East in the 2027 election.

Scheduled for today, Saturday, September 5, 2026, the gathering is built around a Grand Thanksgiving Ceremony with the theme, “Harnessing Our Energy for Greater Opportunity.”

The event is expected to bring together local government leaders, ward executives, unit representatives, community stakeholders, youth and women groups, party members, supporters, friends and well-wishers.

It is being presented as a homecoming of gratitude, but the significance of the occasion extends into the wider political and development conversation in Kogi East.

A Day of Thanksgiving

At the heart of the gathering is thanksgiving.

The ceremony provides Peter Ameh and his supporters an opportunity to appreciate the people who have supported his political journey and to recognise the communities that have remained part of the movement.

Thanksgiving also creates room for reflection. Political journeys are built through relationships with people and communities, and today's gathering places those relationships at the centre of the occasion.

The expectation is therefore for a day marked by appreciation, fellowship and celebration.

Olamaboro at the Centre

As the headquarters of Olamaboro Local Government Area, Ogugu provides a fitting setting for a gathering expected to attract participants from different parts of the local government and beyond.

The presence of ward and unit representatives will also give the occasion a distinctly grassroots character.

For a senatorial campaign, grassroots engagement is significant. A senator represents a senatorial district made up of communities with different needs and priorities. Maintaining contact with those communities is essential to understanding the issues that should inform effective representation.

Today's gathering is therefore expected to provide an opportunity for political structures and community stakeholders to interact in one place.

A Meeting Between Candidate and Community

Another major expectation is direct interaction between Peter Ameh and the people.

Homecoming events allow political candidates to engage communities in a more familiar setting. They create opportunities for conversations that can sometimes extend beyond formal campaign speeches.

For Ameh, today's occasion offers an opportunity to reconnect with supporters, listen to community concerns and communicate his political direction ahead of the 2027 election.

For those attending, it provides an opportunity to hear directly from the candidate and assess the ideas being presented.

The Development Conversation

The theme, “Harnessing Our Energy for Greater Opportunity,” is expected to bring development to the centre of the day's conversation.

Kogi East has significant development needs across agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure, employment, youth development and women's economic participation.

The important question is how the human and economic resources of the senatorial district can be better organised to create sustainable opportunities.

The homecoming provides a platform for these issues to feature in the political conversation and for supporters and stakeholders to consider how political representation can contribute to development.

Renewing the Commitment

The event is also expected to reinforce the principles associated with the Kogi East Advance Agenda 2027.

Among the issues likely to receive attention are integrity in public service, transparency, accountability and a commitment to development.

These principles matter because political campaigns should give voters enough information to assess what candidates intend to do and how they propose to pursue their objectives.

Today's gathering can therefore serve as an opportunity to restate the commitments being placed before the electorate.

A Peaceful Political Gathering

Another expectation is that the event will demonstrate peaceful political participation.

As preparations for the 2027 election gradually take shape, political engagement in Kogi East will become more prominent. Such engagement should provide room for different political views and competing candidates to present their positions without hostility.

Today's gathering can contribute to that culture by promoting respectful interaction and constructive political discussion.

Beyond the Celebration

The most important expectation may be what happens after the music, speeches and celebrations.

A homecoming can generate enthusiasm, but its lasting value depends on whether it strengthens the relationship between political leadership and the people.

The 2027 election remains ahead. Between now and then, candidates will have opportunities to present their programmes, answer questions, defend their positions and make commitments before the electorate.

Today's event is one part of that longer process.

For Peter Ameh and his supporters, it represents an opportunity to consolidate grassroots engagement and communicate the direction of their political campaign.

For the people of Olamaboro and other parts of Kogi East, it is an opportunity to participate, listen and form their own judgement.

Olamaboro Takes Centre Stage

As Ogugu prepares to welcome the candidate and political stakeholders from across Kogi East, Olamaboro is set to take centre stage in today's political calendar.

The gathering is expected to be a day of thanksgiving, community fellowship and political engagement.

Its real significance, however, will be measured by the quality of the conversations it generates and the commitments that emerge from them.

Today, Olamaboro awaits.

A HOMECOMING OF GRATITUDE: OLAMABORO STANDS UNITED FOR HIGH CHIEF PETER OJONUGWA AMEH

As Olamaboro LGA prepares for a major homecoming, the gathering is expected to bring together political leaders, ward executives, community representatives and supporters around a message of gratitude, opportunity and renewed commitment to Kogi East.

All roads lead to Ogugu in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State on Saturday, September 5, 2026, as community and political leaders gather to receive High Chief Peter Ojonugwa Ameh, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial candidate for Kogi East in the 2027 election.

The homecoming, organised around a grand Thanksgiving Ceremony, carries the theme, “Harnessing Our Energy for Greater Opportunity.”

For Olamaboro, the occasion is expected to be both a celebration and a moment of political reflection. Local government leaders, ward executives, unit representatives, civic groups and party supporters are expected to participate in an event that places community engagement at the centre of the political conversation ahead of the 2027 senatorial election.

The significance of the gathering lies in its timing and its message. As political activities gradually intensify across Kogi East, the ability of political actors to maintain direct contact with communities will increasingly shape the quality of public debate. Olamaboro therefore provides an opportunity for Ameh and his supporters to reconnect with the grassroots and articulate the direction of the political movement he represents.

A Homecoming Built Around Gratitude

At the heart of the event is thanksgiving.

The organisers describe the gathering as an opportunity to acknowledge the support received from communities across Kogi East and to recognise the people whose participation has sustained the political movement.

This emphasis on gratitude gives the homecoming a character beyond the conventional political rally. It creates space for interaction between the candidate and the people while providing an opportunity to reflect on the responsibilities that accompany political support.

For Ameh, the gathering also provides a platform to reinforce his stated commitment to public service, accountability and grassroots participation.

Political support, after all, carries expectations. Communities expect candidates to explain what they intend to achieve, how they intend to achieve it and what standards they will accept themselves to be measured against.

From Political Support to Public Responsibility

The broader political vision associated with the homecoming is anchored on the Kogi East Advance Agenda 2027, which places development and opportunity at the centre of the campaign conversation.

Three broad ideas define the gathering.

First is gratitude to the people. The homecoming recognises the role of grassroots communities in shaping political movements and provides an avenue for the candidate to acknowledge their support.

Second is renewal of commitment. Political representation requires more than electoral victory. It requires a continuing obligation to act with integrity, transparency and accountability.

Third is building for the future. The agenda looks towards a Kogi East in which communities, institutions and citizens participate in creating economic and social opportunities that can endure beyond individual political cycles.

These principles are particularly relevant in a senatorial contest, where voters are increasingly interested in what candidates can contribute through legislation, oversight, policy advocacy and effective representation.

Olamaboro and the Grassroots Question

The choice of Olamaboro as the setting for the homecoming also brings the grassroots question into sharper focus.

Kogi East is a large and diverse senatorial district comprising communities with different economic needs, social priorities and development challenges. Any serious political programme must therefore move beyond broad promises and establish clear links between policy proposals and the realities of individual communities.

Issues such as employment, education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, youth development, women's economic participation and access to opportunity remain central to the development debate.

The homecoming offers an avenue for these concerns to remain connected to the people at community level.

A Gathering Ahead of 2027

With the 2027 election approaching, political gatherings will inevitably attract greater attention. The test for every candidate, however, will extend beyond the size of crowds or the enthusiasm generated at events.

The more important question will be whether political campaigns can translate public support into clear policy commitments and whether those commitments can subsequently be subjected to public scrutiny.

For Peter Ameh and his supporters, Olamaboro is therefore an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the political movement and the communities it seeks to represent.

The message of “Harnessing Our Energy for Greater Opportunity” speaks directly to that objective. It places emphasis on collective effort, human capacity and the need to convert political participation into tangible development outcomes.

As Olamaboro prepares for the homecoming, the event is set to bring together people united by a shared political interest and a common desire for greater opportunity in Kogi East.

Whether viewed as a thanksgiving, a political homecoming or the opening of another chapter in the 2027 campaign, the gathering carries a simple message: political leadership must remain connected to the people.

And for Olamaboro, Saturday's event will be an opportunity to demonstrate that connection.

FELICITATION MESSAGE ON THE 35TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CREATION OF KOGI STATE

A Message from High Chief Peter Ojonugwa Ameh

I warmly felicitate with the government and good people of Kogi State, particularly the good people of Kogi East, on the commemoration of 35 years of the creation of Kogi State.

The creation of Kogi State on 27 August 1991 was a defining moment in the history of our people. It brought together communities with rich histories, diverse cultures and enormous human and natural resources within one administrative entity, creating new opportunities for development and collective advancement.

Thirty-five years later, this anniversary should be more than a celebration of our past. It should also be an opportunity for sober reflection on the progress we have made, the challenges that remain and the kind of Kogi State we intend to leave for the next generation.

Kogi State is blessed with fertile agricultural land, solid minerals, waterways, a hardworking population and a strategic location at the confluence of the Niger and Benue rivers. Our greatest resource, however, remains our people. With competent leadership, sound policies, effective representation and responsible use of public resources, Kogi can build an economy that creates opportunities and reduces dependence on government.

For the people of Kogi East, this anniversary is also a reminder of our responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state while protecting our legitimate interests and ensuring that our communities receive equitable opportunities for growth.

As we mark this milestone, I call on our people to continue to promote peace, unity, tolerance and constructive engagement. Let us place the long-term interests of our children and communities above temporary political differences.

I remain confident that Kogi State can achieve greater prosperity when its people unite around competence, accountability, enterprise and genuine development.

On this 35th anniversary, I celebrate every Kogite at home and abroad and pray for continued peace, progress and prosperity across our dear state.

Happy 35th Anniversary to Kogi State.

KOGI EAST SENATE 2027: PETER AMEH, THE DARK HORSE THAT LEADS THE PACK

There are moments in politics when the race appears settled long before the votes are counted. Familiar names dominate conversations. Established political structures command attention. Those who have been around the political circuit longest are often assumed to have an advantage.

Then comes the dark horse.

The candidate whose political significance is initially underestimated. The candidate whose strength is not necessarily measured by the noise surrounding his campaign, but by the experience, networks, ideas and personal convictions he brings into the contest.

In the emerging contest for the Kogi East Senate seat in 2027, High Chief Peter Ojonugwa Ameh increasingly fits that description.

He may not have entered the race as the loudest political voice in the district. He may not belong to the category of politicians whose names have become permanent fixtures in every political conversation. Yet, beneath the surface is a political career that deserves closer examination.

That is what makes Peter Ameh an interesting figure in the 2027 contest.

THE DARK HORSE EFFECT

A dark horse in politics is not necessarily an unknown candidate. It is often someone whose prospects are underestimated until voters begin to examine the contest more closely.

Ameh brings political experience that extends beyond the ordinary electoral cycle.

He has served as National Chairman of the Progressive Peoples Alliance and was elected National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, in 2018, with a subsequent re-election in 2019. He also emerged as the 2019 presidential candidate of the PPA and served as Acting National Chairman of the Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP.

In 2023, he contested the House of Representatives election for the Ankpa, Omala and Olamaboro Federal Constituency.

These experiences place him in a different category from a political newcomer seeking his first serious engagement with national politics.

The Senate requires more than popularity. It requires an understanding of political institutions, legislative processes, party structures, negotiation and the complicated relationship between constituents, government agencies and the federal system.

Ameh's political history gives him a basis upon which such experience can be assessed.

WHEN THE RACE MOVES FROM NAME RECOGNITION TO CAPACITY

Kogi East has witnessed several election cycles in which party identity, political structures, personalities and financial strength have played significant roles.

The 2027 election provides an opportunity to ask a different question.

Who has the capacity to represent the district effectively?

That question matters because a senator is not elected merely to attend plenary sessions or participate in party politics. The office carries constitutional responsibilities that include lawmaking, representation, oversight of the executive and participation in national policy debates.

The senator must understand the concerns of the people and possess the ability to articulate those concerns within the national political arena.

This is where Ameh's candidacy presents a potentially different proposition.

His supporters are not presenting him merely as another candidate seeking political office. They are presenting a man with political experience who wants to translate that experience into representation for Kogi East.

Whether voters ultimately accept that proposition will depend on the quality of his programme, his ability to defend it and, ultimately, his capacity to deliver.

THE 17-POINT DEVELOPMENT AGENDA

At the centre of the Peter Ameh political project is a proposed 17-point Kogi East Development Agenda.

The significance of such an agenda will not be in the number of points it contains. Its value will be determined by whether the proposals respond to the actual problems confronting the senatorial district and whether they can be pursued within the constitutional limits of the Senate.

Kogi East requires serious attention to agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure, employment, youth development, women’s economic participation, security, enterprise development, technology, environmental concerns and human capital.

It also requires effective legislative representation.

The Senate cannot construct every road, employ every graduate or directly administer every development programme in a senatorial district. A serious candidate must therefore distinguish between what a senator can directly do, what can be achieved through legislation and oversight, and what requires partnerships with federal agencies, state institutions, local governments, private investors and development organisations.

This distinction will be essential to judging every candidate in 2027.

FROM POLITICAL EXPERIENCE TO LEGISLATIVE VALUE

Peter Ameh's greatest political asset may ultimately be his familiarity with the mechanics of national politics.

Having occupied national positions within the political system, he has had exposure to political parties, inter-party negotiations and national political structures.

That experience could become valuable in the Senate if properly converted into legislative influence.

A senator's effectiveness cannot be measured simply by the number of motions sponsored or speeches delivered. The real test lies in whether the senator can influence legislation, scrutinise public expenditure, engage ministries and agencies, attract legitimate federal interventions, protect constituency interests and maintain regular communication with constituents.

This is the standard against which Ameh, like every other candidate, should be judged.

THE PEOPLE MUST LOOK BEYOND THE PARTY

The most important development in the 2027 Kogi East conversation may be a growing demand for voters to examine candidates beyond political party labels.

Political parties remain important institutions in a democracy. They provide platforms through which candidates contest elections and organise political participation.

But a party name cannot substitute for individual competence.

The ballot will eventually present voters with individual names. Those names will belong to people who will make decisions on behalf of the district for four years.

The sensible question is therefore not simply, "Which party is he contesting under?"

It is also, "Who is this person, what does he understand, what does he intend to do, and what evidence suggests that he can do it?"

That is the space in which a dark horse can become a serious contender.

THE RACE IS STILL OPEN

No responsible observer can declare the outcome of a 2027 election before the votes are cast and counted.

Political fortunes change. Alliances shift. Candidates emerge. Parties make decisions. Voters reassess their choices.

Peter Ameh therefore cannot be described as the inevitable winner.

He can, however, be described as a candidate whose political credentials deserve serious attention.

His journey from party leadership to national political engagement, his previous electoral experience and his proposed development agenda provide sufficient grounds for voters to examine his candidacy beyond the surface.

The dark horse does not need to begin the race as the favourite.

Sometimes, the dark horse becomes formidable because the electorate eventually discovers that beneath the quiet exterior is a candidate with experience, ambition, organisation and a clear understanding of the terrain.

For Peter Ameh, the task is now straightforward.

He must convince Kogi East that his political experience can become effective representation.

He must explain the 17-point development agenda in practical terms.

He must demonstrate what belongs within the constitutional responsibilities of a senator and what requires collaboration with other levels of government.

And he must allow the people to judge him against the same standard applied to every other aspirant.

If the 2027 Kogi East Senate contest becomes a competition of personalities, capacity, ideas and demonstrated political competence rather than merely party loyalty, the man initially regarded as a dark horse may find himself running at the front of the pack.

The race has begun.

The people will decide who deserves to lead.
