At Diamond Development Initiatives (DDI), we believe that meaningful impact begins with the ability to measure what truly matters.
Over the past two days, our team participated in an engaging capacity-strengthening workshop on Developing Indicators to Measure Nutrition Outcomes in Agriculture, designed to strengthen our ability to select and integrate nutrition-sensitive agriculture indicators into Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) systems. Through practical exercises, case studies and collaborative discussions, our staff gained valuable knowledge that will enhance evidence generation and improve programme design and implementation.
Our sincere appreciation goes to Ikore for delivering an insightful, practical and engaging learning experience. The facilitators combined technical expertise with relatable examples and thoughtful humour, creating an environment that encouraged active participation and meaningful learning.
We are equally grateful to Tanager, through the IGNITE+ Project, for making this important capacity-building opportunity possible. Partnerships that invest in strengthening local capacity ultimately contribute to more effective, evidence-driven development programming.
At DDI, we remain committed to continuous learning, adaptive programming and generating the evidence needed to improve nutrition and livelihood outcomes for the communities we serve.

My name is Beatrice Augustine Ehiabhi.
I have attended many trainings sessions over the years.
Some leave you with a folder full of slides you'll probably never open again. Others leave you with something far more valuable – a different way of thinking.
The past two days were definitely the latter.
Our team gathered for a capacity-strengthening workshop on Developing Indicators to Measure Nutrition Outcomes in Agriculture. Going into the training, I expected to learn about indicators, frameworks and measurement. I did.
But I left with something much bigger.

I was reminded that in development work, good intentions are never enough. If we cannot measure change correctly, we cannot truly understand whether our interventions are improving lives.
Behind every indicator is a family eating better.
A mother making healthier food choices.
A child with improved nutrition.
A farming household becoming more resilient.
One thing that made the experience particularly memorable was our facilitators from Ikore
They had that rare ability to simplify complex concepts without oversimplifying them. They moved effortlessly between technical discussions and relatable everyday examples, occasionally throwing in measured humour that had everyone laughing while still driving home important lessons.
Learning, at its best, should feel exactly like that.
I was equally impressed by my colleagues at DDI.
There was no passive attendance. People asked thoughtful questions. They challenged assumptions. They shared experiences from the field. The practical exercises became opportunities for collaboration rather than mere classroom activities.
Moments like these remind me why organisational culture matters.
When an organisation intentionally invests in learning, it is also investing in the quality of its impact.
Stronger knowledge leads to stronger programmes.
Better measurement leads to better decisions.
Better decisions lead to better outcomes for the communities we exist to serve.

As the training came to a close today, I found myself thinking that the most important thing we took away wasn't simply a deeper understanding of nutrition-sensitive agriculture indicators or how to integrate them into our MERL systems.
It was a renewed appreciation that learning is a continuous responsibility.
Development challenges are evolving. Communities deserve practitioners who evolve with them.
My sincere appreciation to the Ikore & Tanager team for making technical learning engaging, practical and genuinely enjoyable, and to the leadership of Diamond Development Initiatives for creating an environment where professional growth is not treated as an expense, but as an investment.
Here's to asking better questions, measuring what truly matters, and ensuring that every piece of evidence brings us one step closer to creating lasting impact.

𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗗𝗜’𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲
On February 17–18, 2026, DDI convened a two-day intensive Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture (NSA) Training designed to deepen our institutional capacity to integrate nutrition into agricultural programme design and delivery. The training went beyond theory. Through coaching, joint activities, practical exercises, and hands-on use of the NSIS tool, our team strengthened its understanding of agriculture–nutrition linkages, food systems pathways, measurable indicators, and practical entry points for integration.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Ikore and Tanager IGNITE+ team for delivering a thoughtful, practical, and deeply engaging learning experience. Our gratitude also goes to the funders and partners whose commitment to capacity strengthening ensures that programmes are not only implemented – but implemented with depth, rigour, and measurable impact.

We also commend our staff who committed two days – fully immersed in learning, reflection, and application. Their dedication reflects DDI’s culture: we do not only deliver development interventions; we continuously strengthen ourselves to deliver them better, because at DDI, training is not an event. From Garden to Table: Celebrating the Conclusion of the GAIN-SNiPS Home Garden Project!

We’re thrilled to share the fantastic results from the GAIN SNiPS Home Garden Initiative, where Diamond Development Initiatives (DDI) served as the implementing partner. This heart-centred project directly reached 21,414 households in Benue, Kaduna, and Nasarawa, giving families the knowledge and tools to grow their own nutritious food.
By training local Lead Farmers and promoting innovations like sack gardening and composting, we’ve ensured these gardens keep thriving long into the future. With 71% female beneficiaries, we leveraged the power of women to make family nutrition a long-term priority.
One farmer noted how having the garden has reduced her family's need to travel or shop for vegetables. This is more than just farming; it's about making healthy diets safe, accessible, and sustainable for Nigerian families.

DDI Concludes GAIN-SNiPS Home Garden Initiative Across 3 States

Diamond Development Initiatives (DDI) is proud to announce the successful completion of its role as the implementing partner for the Home Garden component of the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) Strengthening Nutrition in Priority Staples (SNiPS) Project in Nigeria. For the past three years, this vital initiative has empowered 21,414 households across Benue, Kaduna, and Nasarawa states by boosting their capacity to grow and consume safe, nutrient-dense foods.

Key Achievements and Impact

The project’s primary goal was to assist smallholder farmers and farm workers in the rice and maize value chains to make healthier dietary choices through improved access to and consumption of nutritious foods. Key achievements include:

--- Expanded Reach and Empowerment: The initiative networked 21,414 households, surpassing the original target of 20,000. Notably, women consistently formed the majority of participants, accounting for 71%, which is crucial for garden maintenance and long-term success.
--- Capacity Building: DDI conducted comprehensive capacity building sessions by training 102 Extension Agents (EAs) and 480 Lead Farmers on Good Agronomic Practices (GAP), nursery management, nutrition education, among other relevant skills. These master trainers, in turn, delivered step-down training to 21,033 households.
--- Infrastructure and Inputs: A total of 102 demonstration plots were established, serving as vital practical learning centres. Furthermore, 21,305 households received essential inputs like improved seeds (amaranth, tomato, pepper, okra), liquid organic fertiliser, and Vitamin A-rich Orange-Fleshed Sweet Potato (OFSP) vines.
--- Innovative Farming: The project actively promoted innovative, climate-smart solutions. Techniques such as sack gardening were introduced to overcome challenges like cramped spaces, poor soil, and rigid garden layouts, offering a budget-friendly way for families to secure year-round fresh produce.
