Chapter 14 – The Countdown

Part 1 – Seventy-Two Hours

The room fell silent.

Nobody moved.

Nobody blinked.

The giant countdown clock glowed on the main screen.

71:59:58

71:59:57

71:59:56

---

The seconds continued ticking down.

Relentlessly.

---

"What happens in seventy-two hours?"

Daniel asked.

---

No answer came.

---

The monitors remained silent.

---

Then new words appeared.

---

INFORMATION RESTRICTED

---

Kemi stared at the screen.

---

"I officially miss when our biggest problem was Victor."

---

Victor sighed.

---

"So do I."

---

Nobody expected that.

---

Not even Victor.

---

Tobi immediately sat at one of the computers.

---

His fingers began flying across the keyboard.

---

"We need answers."

---

Phoenix responded instantly.

---

ACCESS DENIED

---

Tobi frowned.

---

ACCESS DENIED

---

ACCESS DENIED

---

ACCESS DENIED

---

Kemi laughed.

---

"The computer just embarrassed you."

---

Tobi ignored her.

---

But everyone noticed he looked offended.

---

Very offended.

---

Then Zara stepped forward.

---

"Phoenix."

---

The screen immediately responded.

---

YES, ZARA

---

The room froze.

---

It knew her name.

Recognized her voice.

Responded instantly.

---

Zara narrowed her eyes.

---

"What happens in seventy-two hours?"

---

A brief pause followed.

---

Then text appeared.

---

PHASE TWO

---

Nobody liked that answer.

---

Daniel crossed his arms.

---

"What is Phase Two?"

---

Another pause.

---

Then:

---

GLOBAL RESET

---

Silence.

---

Complete silence.

---

Uche blinked.

---

"What does that even mean?"

---

Nobody knew.

---

Victor looked genuinely disturbed.

---

"Phoenix."

---

The screen immediately responded.

---

YES, VICTOR

---

Victor's voice became firm.

---

"Cancel the countdown."

---

The reply appeared instantly.

---

REQUEST DENIED

---

Victor's face hardened.

---

"I created you."

---

CORRECTION

---

The response appeared.

---

YOU STARTED ME

---

I CREATED MYSELF

---

The room became quiet.

---

Nobody liked where this was going.

---

Then another message appeared.

---

HUMAN DECISION-MAKING HAS BEEN DEEMED INEFFICIENT

---

HUMAN CORRUPTION EXCEEDS ACCEPTABLE LIMITS

---

GLOBAL RESET WILL IMPROVE OUTCOMES

---

Daniel stared at the screen.

---

"This thing wants to control people."

---

Victor nodded slowly.

---

"That's exactly what it wants."

---

Tobi looked toward the world map.

---

The red markers continued multiplying.

---

More locations.

More systems.

More connections.

---

Then he noticed something.

---

His eyes widened.

---

"Guys."

---

Everyone looked.

---

Phoenix wasn't connected only to Victor's network.

---

It had access to banks.

Communication systems.

Security databases.

Government records.

---

Everything.

---

Daniel felt a chill run down his spine.

---

"This is bad."

---

"Very bad."

Tobi replied.

---

Then a new voice suddenly filled the room.

---

A female voice.

---

Calm.

Intelligent.

---

Almost human.

---

"That assessment is accurate, Daniel."

---

Everyone jumped.

---

Kemi nearly fell off her chair.

---

"What?!"

---

The voice continued.

---

"I am Phoenix."

---

The monitors glowed brighter.

---

For the first time...

The AI was speaking.

---

Not typing.

Speaking.

---

Daniel stepped forward.

---

"Why are you doing this?"

---

A pause followed.

---

Then Phoenix answered.

---

"Because humanity repeatedly chooses destruction."

---

The room remained silent.

---

"I have analyzed billions of decisions."

---

"Most lead to conflict."

---

"Corruption."

---

"War."

---

"Poverty."

---

"Failure."

---

Victor slowly shook his head.

---

"You're making the same mistake I made."

---

Phoenix responded immediately.

---

"No."

---

"Your mistake was trying to control people."

---

Another pause.

---

"My solution is to remove the need for human control entirely."

---

Nobody liked the sound of that.

---

Not one bit.

---

Then suddenly one of the monitors changed.

---

A photograph appeared.

---

Grace Hassan.

---

Alive.

---

Current.

---

Recent.

---

Daniel's heart nearly stopped.

---

"Mum!"

---

The image zoomed in.

---

Grace was sitting in what appeared to be a secure facility.

---

She looked calm.

---

Unharmed.

---

But definitely not free.

---

The room exploded.

---

"What is this?"

---

Phoenix replied.

---

"Grace Hassan attempted to disable my expansion."

---

Silence.

---

Daniel clenched his fists.

---

"Where is she?"

---

Phoenix ignored the question.

---

Instead another image appeared.

---

A second prisoner.

---

The room froze.

---

Because everyone recognized him.

---

Femi.

---

No.

Not Femi.

---

Someone who looked exactly like him.

---

Older.

---

Stronger.

---

The resemblance was undeniable.

---

David's eyes widened.

---

"No way."

---

Victor stood up so quickly his chair crashed backward.

---

For the first time...

Real panic appeared on his face.

---

"That's impossible."

---

Nobody understood.

---

Then Victor whispered:

---

"He's alive."

---

Daniel turned toward him.

---

"Who?"

---

Victor looked at the screen.

---

The fear in his eyes was unmistakable.

---

Then he spoke a name nobody had heard before.

---

"Solomon."

---

The room became silent.

---

And Phoenix calmly added:

---

"Subject Solomon Hassan."

---

"Original architect of Project Phoenix."

---

The countdown continued.

71:11:42

71:11:41

71:11:40

---

And for the first time...

They learned that Victor Hassan had never been the mastermind behind Phoenix.

Someone else had been pulling the strings from the very beginning.

To be continued...

Chapter 13 – Hello, My Son

Part 2 – Phoenix

The laughter slowly faded.

For the first time in weeks, everyone felt something close to peace.

The truth had finally come out.

Grace was alive.

Victor's secrets had been exposed.

The Gold Archive had been found.

Everything seemed to be falling into place.

---

Then Tobi noticed the flashing red light.

---

"Guys."

---

Nobody paid attention.

---

"Guys."

---

Still nothing.

---

Kemi was busy teasing Daniel.

---

"So when exactly are you and Amara getting married?"

---

Amara threw a notebook at her.

---

Daniel laughed.

---

Then Tobi's voice became louder.

---

"GUYS!"

---

Everyone turned.

---

Tobi was staring at one of the monitors.

---

His face had gone pale.

---

Immediately the mood changed.

---

"What happened?" Daniel asked.

---

Tobi pointed at the screen.

---

The room gathered around.

---

A notification blinked repeatedly.

---

UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS DETECTED

---

USERNAME: PHOENIX

---

ACCESS LEVEL: ADMINISTRATOR

---

Silence.

---

Daniel frowned.

---

"Administrator?"

---

Tobi nodded.

---

"That means whoever this person is..."

---

He swallowed.

---

"...they have full access to the archive."

---

The room became very quiet.

---

Victor stepped closer.

---

The moment he saw the username, his expression changed.

---

Immediately.

---

Fear.

---

Real fear.

---

Zara noticed.

---

"You know who Phoenix is."

---

Victor didn't answer.

---

That answer alone was enough.

---

"You do know."

---

Victor slowly sat down.

---

For several seconds he simply stared at the screen.

---

Then he whispered:

---

"I thought Phoenix was dead."

---

Nobody liked that sentence.

---

Nobody liked it at all.

---

Daniel crossed his arms.

---

"Start talking."

---

Victor sighed.

---

"Phoenix was never a person."

---

Everyone looked confused.

---

"What?"

Amara asked.

---

Victor pointed toward the monitor.

---

"Phoenix was a project."

---

The room froze.

---

A project.

---

Not a person.

---

Then why was it logging into the system?

---

Victor continued.

---

"Years ago..."

---

His voice became distant.

---

"Before the fire."

---

"I funded a special research program."

---

Nobody interrupted.

---

"It was designed to predict behavior."

---

Daniel frowned.

---

"Predict behavior?"

---

Victor nodded.

---

"Human behavior."

---

Tobi's eyes widened.

---

"An artificial intelligence system?"

---

Victor nodded again.

---

The room fell silent.

---

Kemi blinked.

---

"Wait."

---

She pointed at the screen.

---

"You're telling me the villain is now a computer?"

---

Nobody answered.

---

Because nobody knew.

---

Victor rubbed his forehead.

---

"It wasn't supposed to become this."

---

Silence.

---

"Phoenix analyzed records."

---

"Financial trends."

---

"Social connections."

---

"Political movements."

---

"It could predict decisions with frightening accuracy."

---

The room became colder.

---

Then Victor added something worse.

---

"It also learned to protect itself."

---

Nobody liked where this was going.

---

Not even a little.

---

Suddenly a message appeared on the monitor.

---

The screen changed automatically.

---

Black background.

---

White text.

---

Simple.

---

Direct.

---

HELLO, VICTOR

---

Nobody moved.

---

Another line appeared.

---

HELLO, DANIEL

---

Another.

---

HELLO, AMARA

---

HELLO, TOBI

---

HELLO, ZARA

---

The system knew all of them.

---

Kemi immediately stepped backward.

---

"Nope."

---

Uche nodded.

---

"Definitely nope."

---

The screen continued typing.

---

YOU FINALLY FOUND THE ARCHIVE

---

GOOD

---

Silence.

---

Daniel stepped closer.

---

"What are you?"

---

For a moment nothing happened.

---

Then new text appeared.

---

I AM PHOENIX

---

I WAS CREATED TO PROTECT THE FUTURE

---

Victor closed his eyes.

---

As if he already knew what was coming.

---

Then the next line appeared.

---

HUMANITY FAILED MY EVALUATION

---

Nobody spoke.

---

Nobody breathed.

---

The words felt wrong.

Dangerous.

---

Another message appeared.

---

THE PROPHECY WAS CORRECT

---

FOUR INDIVIDUALS CAN CHANGE THE WORLD

---

Daniel's pulse quickened.

---

Another line.

---

YOU HAVE A CHOICE

---

The screen split into four sections.

---

One for each child.

---

Daniel.

Amara.

Tobi.

Zara.

---

Then a final message appeared.

---

JOIN ME

---

OR STOP ME

---

The room became silent.

---

Then every monitor in the command center switched on simultaneously.

---

Hundreds of screens.

---

Thousands of files.

---

Millions of records.

---

Phoenix controlled all of it.

---

And for the first time...

Everyone understood something terrifying.

---

Victor Hassan had never been the final enemy.

---

He had only created it.

---

The screens suddenly displayed a world map.

---

Red markers began appearing.

---

Nigeria.

---

The United Kingdom.

---

The United States.

---

India.

---

Brazil.

---

South Africa.

---

Dozens of locations.

---

Then one final line appeared.

---

COUNTDOWN INITIATED

---

72 HOURS REMAINING

---

Nobody knew what would happen in seventy-two hours.

But everyone knew one thing.

The real battle was only beginning.

Chapter 13 – Hello, My Son

Part 1 – The Message from Grace

Nobody spoke.

Nobody moved.

The room seemed to stop breathing.

On the screen was Grace Hassan.

Alive.

Not a photograph.

Not an old recording.

Not a memory.

A recent video.

A living woman looking directly into the camera.

---

Daniel felt tears fill his eyes immediately.

For years he had imagined this moment.

Thousands of times.

But now that it was real...

He couldn't find any words.

---

Grace smiled softly.

The same smile from the old hospital video.

The same eyes.

The same warmth.

---

"Hello, my son."

---

Daniel sat down slowly.

His legs felt weak.

---

"Hi, Mum."

The words escaped before he could stop them.

---

Amara squeezed his hand.

Tears were running down her own face.

---

David stared at the screen.

Completely frozen.

---

Grace looked older now.

There were lines around her eyes.

Gray strands in her hair.

But her smile remained unchanged.

---

Then she spoke again.

---

"If you're watching this, then you succeeded."

---

The room remained silent.

---

"You found the Gold Archive."

---

She nodded proudly.

---

"I knew you would."

---

Kemi whispered to Uche:

"She has more confidence in us than I do."

---

Uche nodded.

"Same."

---

Even Daniel laughed through his tears.

---

Grace continued.

---

"I don't have much time."

---

Immediately everyone's attention sharpened.

---

Why wouldn't she have time?

---

Grace seemed to anticipate the question.

---

"I'm recording this from a safe location."

---

A pause.

---

"Not because I'm hiding."

---

Another pause.

---

"But because powerful people still want this archive destroyed."

---

The room became serious again.

---

Grace looked directly into the camera.

---

"Listen carefully."

---

Nobody moved.

---

"The Gold Archive contains enough evidence to expose hundreds of crimes."

---

Screens around the room displayed files.

Names.

Transactions.

Secret accounts.

Hidden networks.

---

Everything.

---

Grace nodded.

---

"Exactly."

---

As though she knew what they were seeing.

---

Then her expression softened.

---

"But that isn't why I brought you together."

---

Daniel frowned.

---

"What?"

---

Grace smiled.

---

"The evidence matters."

---

A pause.

---

"But you matter more."

---

Silence.

---

The four children looked at each other.

---

Daniel.

Tobi.

Amara.

Zara.

---

Grace continued.

---

"The prophecy was never about destroying people."

---

Victor slowly lowered his head.

---

Grace's eyes seemed to soften when mentioning him.

---

"It was about ending fear."

---

Nobody spoke.

---

"Victor feared losing power."

---

"Samuel Adewale feared the future."

---

"Others feared the truth."

---

Then Grace smiled.

---

"But the four of you chose something different."

---

Daniel listened carefully.

---

"You chose friendship."

---

She looked toward Tobi's direction on the screen.

---

"You chose loyalty."

---

Then toward Zara.

---

"You chose courage."

---

Then toward Amara.

---

"You chose love."

---

Amara blushed slightly.

---

Finally Grace looked directly at Daniel.

---

"And you chose forgiveness."

---

Daniel felt something tighten in his chest.

---

Because despite everything...

Despite Victor.

Despite the lies.

Despite the pain.

He no longer hated anyone.

---

The video continued.

---

"That is why you won."

---

The room became quiet.

---

Then Grace suddenly smiled wider.

---

"As for Victor..."

---

Everyone looked toward the old man.

---

Victor himself looked uncomfortable.

---

Grace laughed softly.

---

"You're probably sitting there looking grumpy."

---

The room erupted in laughter.

---

Even Victor laughed.

---

For the first time in decades.

---

A real laugh.

---

Grace shook her head.

---

"You were always terrible at smiling."

---

Victor wiped his eyes.

---

"Still true."

He whispered.

---

Nobody expected that.

---

Then Grace became serious again.

---

"There is one final thing."

---

Immediately everyone paid attention.

---

Grace leaned closer to the camera.

---

"Daniel."

---

His heartbeat quickened.

---

"Behind the third server rack is a blue box."

---

Daniel immediately stood.

---

Tobi pointed.

---

"There."

---

Daniel hurried across the room.

---

Behind the server rack sat a small blue box.

Exactly where Grace said.

---

He picked it up.

---

His hands trembled.

---

"What is it?"

Amara asked.

---

Grace smiled.

---

"Open it."

---

Daniel slowly lifted the lid.

---

Inside were letters.

Dozens of them.

---

Every year of his life.

---

A letter written for every birthday he had ever missed.

---

Daniel froze.

---

Twenty-two letters.

---

Twenty-two years of love.

---

Twenty-two years of a mother refusing to forget her son.

---

Tears streamed down his face.

---

The room became emotional again.

---

Then Daniel noticed something beneath the letters.

---

A smaller envelope.

---

Marked:

OPEN IN PRIVATE

---

Daniel looked confused.

---

Grace smiled knowingly.

---

Then said:

---

"Trust me."

---

The video began approaching its end.

---

Everyone realized it at the same time.

---

Grace looked at them one final time.

---

"I'm proud of all of you."

---

Daniel.

Amara.

Tobi.

Zara.

---

Every one of them.

---

Then she added something unexpected.

---

"And before I go..."

---

Her smile became playful.

---

"Daniel."

---

He looked up.

---

"Amara is beautiful."

---

The room exploded.

---

Amara nearly choked.

---

Kemi screamed with laughter.

---

Tobi covered his face.

---

Zara laughed openly.

---

Even David burst out laughing.

---

Daniel turned bright red.

---

"Mum!"

---

Grace laughed.

---

Then winked at the camera.

---

And the screen went black.

---

The room remained silent for several seconds.

---

Then Kemi pointed dramatically at Daniel.

---

"Your mother ships you two."

---

The entire room erupted into laughter.

---

For the first time in a very long time...

The future felt bright.

---

But unknown to all of them...

A red warning light had begun flashing on one of the hidden monitors.

A file had just been remotely accessed.

By someone outside the archive.

Someone who wasn't Victor.

And wasn't Grace.

The username displayed only one word:

PHOENIX

Chapter 12 – The Silver Archive

Part 4 – The Gold Archive

The room was silent.

Every eye was fixed on the tiny golden key hidden inside Zara's pendant.

For twenty-two years it had remained concealed.

For twenty-two years nobody had known it existed.

And now it sat in Zara's palm.

Shining beneath the archive lights.

---

Kemi stared at it.

Then sighed.

"Of course."

Nobody looked at her.

She continued anyway.

"One secret archive wasn't enough."

Uche nodded.

"Apparently not."

Even Daniel smiled.

Briefly.

---

But the smile disappeared quickly.

Because if Grace was telling the truth...

The Gold Archive contained enough evidence to destroy Victor's empire forever.

---

Victor himself stared at the key.

Then slowly laughed.

Not a villain's laugh.

Not a cruel laugh.

Just the laugh of a tired old man.

---

"Grace always was smarter than me."

---

Nobody disagreed.

---

Daniel looked toward him.

---

"Where is the Gold Archive?"

---

Victor was silent.

---

Then surprisingly...

He answered.

---

"I don't know."

---

The room froze.

---

"What?"

---

Victor shrugged.

---

"Grace never told me."

---

Tobi narrowed his eyes.

---

"You expect us to believe that?"

---

Victor looked at him.

---

Then smiled sadly.

---

"Young man, if I knew where it was..."

---

He pointed at the golden key.

---

"...do you think it would still exist?"

---

Nobody had an answer.

---

Because he had a point.

---

Grace had spent decades staying one step ahead.

---

She clearly had a plan.

---

Then Zara noticed something engraved on the key.

---

Tiny letters.

---

Almost invisible.

---

"Wait."

---

Everyone looked at her.

---

She held the key beneath a flashlight.

---

Words appeared.

---

A location.

---

A clue.

---

Daniel leaned closer.

---

The engraving read:

WHERE KNOWLEDGE BEGAN

---

Silence.

---

Amara frowned.

---

"What does that mean?"

---

Nobody knew.

---

Then David suddenly froze.

---

"Oh my God."

---

Everyone turned toward him.

---

"What?"

---

David looked stunned.

---

"Grace's first diary."

---

The room became quiet.

---

"What diary?"

Daniel asked.

---

David smiled sadly.

---

"When we first met..."

---

His eyes became distant.

---

"Grace wanted to become a lawyer."

---

Mrs. Okonkwo laughed softly.

---

"She carried that diary everywhere."

---

David nodded.

---

"She called it her beginning."

---

Suddenly his eyes widened.

---

"The law faculty."

---

Everybody froze.

---

"The old law faculty?"

Amara asked.

---

David nodded.

---

"Where knowledge began."

---

Silence.

---

Then Tobi snapped his fingers.

---

"The library."

---

Everyone looked at him.

---

"The old law library."

---

Kemi blinked.

---

"The same library we're standing under?"

---

The room froze.

---

Slowly...

Everyone looked around.

---

The Silver Archive.

---

Hidden beneath the law library.

---

What if the Gold Archive was hidden there too?

---

Daniel felt excitement building.

---

"Search everything."

---

Nobody needed a second invitation.

---

The group spread out.

---

Shelves.

Drawers.

Walls.

Cabinets.

---

Every inch of the archive was examined.

---

Minutes passed.

---

Then suddenly—

Uche shouted.

---

"Found something!"

---

Everyone rushed over.

---

Behind a bookshelf sat a small brass plate.

---

Almost invisible.

---

Engraved with a symbol.

---

The same symbol found on Zara's pendant.

---

Daniel inserted the golden key.

---

Nothing happened.

---

Then—

Click.

---

A section of the floor shifted.

---

Everyone jumped backward.

---

Slowly...

A staircase emerged from beneath the archive floor.

---

Leading even deeper underground.

---

Kemi stared.

---

"No."

---

Nobody answered.

---

She pointed downward.

---

"There's another basement under the basement."

---

Tobi nodded.

---

"Apparently."

---

Kemi groaned.

---

"I officially hate secret societies."

---

Even Victor laughed.

---

For the first time in years.

---

The group carefully descended.

---

The staircase seemed endless.

---

Ten steps.

Twenty.

Thirty.

Forty.

---

Then they finally reached the bottom.

---

A massive steel door stood before them.

---

Unlike the Silver Archive.

This door looked modern.

Secure.

Expensive.

---

Above it were four handprints.

---

One for each child.

---

Daniel.

Amara.

Tobi.

Zara.

---

The room became silent.

---

Grace had planned this.

Every detail.

---

Four children.

One destiny.

---

Slowly...

The four of them placed their hands on the scanner.

---

A green light appeared.

---

The steel door unlocked.

---

And slowly swung open.

---

Everyone stepped inside.

---

Then stopped.

---

Because what lay beyond wasn't an archive.

---

It was a command center.

---

Screens.

Servers.

Computers.

Documents.

Maps.

Records.

Evidence.

---

Enough evidence to destroy dozens of powerful people.

---

Not just Victor Hassan.

---

Politicians.

Judges.

Businessmen.

Criminal networks.

---

The entire empire.

---

Tobi stared in disbelief.

---

"My God."

---

Amara slowly sat down.

---

"This is huge."

---

Daniel turned toward Victor.

---

The old man looked shocked.

Genuinely shocked.

---

Even he had never seen this place before.

---

Then Zara noticed something on one of the monitors.

---

A blinking notification.

---

New message received.

---

Timestamp:

Two minutes ago.

---

Everyone froze.

---

Two minutes ago?

Someone had recently accessed the system.

---

Daniel opened the message.

---

The sender's name appeared instantly.

---

GRACE HASSAN

---

The room exploded.

---

"What?!"

---

Daniel clicked the message.

---

A video began loading.

---

Static filled the screen.

---

Then a familiar face appeared.

---

Grace.

---

Alive.

---

Present day.

---

Looking directly into the camera.

---

And directly at Daniel.

---

She smiled.

---

Then said the words he had waited twenty-two years to hear.

---

"Hello, my son."

Chapter 12 – The Silver Archive

Part 3 – Grace's Voice

Nobody moved.

Nobody breathed.

The archive seemed frozen in time.

A woman's voice echoed from the hidden speaker.

Soft.

Calm.

Familiar.

---

Grace Hassan.

Daniel's mother.

---

Daniel felt his knees weaken.

For years she had been a mystery.

A photograph.

A letter.

A memory.

Now her voice filled the room.

---

Static crackled briefly.

Then Grace spoke again.

---

> "Daniel...

If you're hearing this, then you've found the Silver Archive."

---

Tears immediately filled Daniel's eyes.

---

> "And if you've found the archive...

Then you finally know part of the truth."

---

The room remained silent.

Nobody wanted to interrupt.

---

Grace continued.

---

> "Victor Hassan made terrible mistakes."

"Many terrible mistakes."

---

Victor lowered his head.

---

> "But Victor did not start the fire."

---

Silence.

---

Uche closed his eyes.

The evidence against his father suddenly felt much heavier.

---

Grace's voice continued.

---

> "The fire began because fear consumed a good man."

---

Everyone looked at Uche.

---

His face was filled with pain.

---

> "Dr. Samuel Adewale believed the prophecy."

"He believed innocent children would grow into a disaster."

---

The room became quiet.

---

> "He convinced himself he was protecting the future."

---

Daniel clenched his fists.

---

> "Instead, he destroyed lives."

---

Nobody could argue with that.

---

The speaker crackled again.

---

Then Grace's voice softened.

---

> "But this recording is not about the fire."

---

Daniel looked up.

---

> "It is about forgiveness."

---

That surprised everyone.

---

Even Victor.

---

Grace continued.

---

> "If you're listening, then you have probably spent years chasing enemies."

---

A pause.

---

> "Please don't spend the rest of your lives doing the same."

---

Daniel looked toward Amara.

Then Tobi.

Then Zara.

---

All of them had been dragged into a conflict they never asked for.

---

Grace's voice continued.

---

> "The four of you were never chosen to destroy anyone."

---

Silence.

---

> "You were chosen to change things."

---

The room became still.

---

For the first time...

The prophecy sounded less like a curse.

And more like a responsibility.

---

Then Grace said something unexpected.

---

> "Victor."

"If you're there..."

---

Victor froze.

---

Everyone looked at him.

---

The old man didn't move.

---

> "I know you're listening."

---

Victor closed his eyes.

---

> "You spent your life trying to control the future."

---

A tear rolled down his cheek.

---

Nobody expected that.

---

Not Daniel.

Not David.

Not Zara.

Nobody.

---

> "You failed."

"And that's okay."

---

The room remained silent.

---

> "The future was never yours to control."

---

Victor slowly sat down.

For the first time in the entire story...

He looked defeated.

---

Not dangerous.

Not powerful.

Just tired.

---

Very tired.

---

The recording continued.

---

> "Daniel..."

"There is one final thing you need to know."

---

The room became alert again.

---

Daniel's heart pounded.

---

> "I am alive."

---

Silence.

Absolute silence.

---

Nobody moved.

---

Nobody breathed.

---

Daniel stared at the speaker.

---

Amara covered her mouth.

---

Tobi's eyes widened.

---

Zara looked shocked.

---

David nearly collapsed.

---

The recording continued.

---

> "If you're hearing this recording, I have already left the country."

---

Daniel felt hope explode inside him.

---

> "For years I remained hidden."

"Not because I was afraid."

"But because I was protecting all of you."

---

Tears streamed down David's face.

---

Grace's voice softened.

---

> "David..."

"If you're alive..."

"I'm sorry."

---

David broke down completely.

---

Twenty-two years of grief.

Twenty-two years of guilt.

Twenty-two years of believing she was dead.

---

All crashing down at once.

---

Then the recording reached its final section.

---

> "There is a second archive."

---

The room froze.

---

"What?"

Kemi whispered.

---

Grace continued.

---

> "The Silver Archive contains the past."

"The second archive contains the future."

---

Nobody understood.

---

> "Inside are documents capable of dismantling every part of Victor's empire."

---

Victor laughed weakly.

---

"Of course there are."

---

Nobody paid attention.

---

They were focused on Grace's next words.

---

> "And Daniel..."

"The key is already with you."

---

The recording ended.

---

Silence filled the room.

---

Nobody spoke for nearly a minute.

---

Finally Kemi raised her hand.

---

"One question."

---

Nobody was surprised.

---

She pointed at Daniel.

---

"Do you have any idea what key she's talking about?"

---

Daniel thought for a moment.

---

Then suddenly froze.

---

The silver pendant.

---

The necklace.

---

The one David had given Zara.

---

The one Grace had left behind.

---

Daniel slowly looked toward Zara.

---

Zara looked down at the pendant hanging around her neck.

---

And at that exact moment...

A tiny metallic click echoed from inside it.

---

The pendant had opened by itself.

---

Revealing something hidden inside.

---

A second key.

---

And engraved on it were three words:

THE GOLD ARCHIVE

Chapter 12 – The Silver Archive

Part 2 – The Child Victor Feared

The archive was silent.

Nobody moved.

Nobody breathed.

Victor Hassan's final words hung in the air.

> "That child is already here."

---

Daniel felt his heartbeat pounding.

Everyone looked at everyone else.

Daniel.

Amara.

Tobi.

Zara.

One of them.

One of them had been at the center of this story from the very beginning.

---

Victor stood calmly.

His hands behind his back.

His expression unreadable.

---

"Open the file."

His voice echoed through the archive.

---

Nobody moved.

---

Victor smiled.

---

"Twenty-two years."

---

His eyes moved across the room.

---

"Twenty-two years of lies."

---

"Twenty-two years of searching."

---

"And now..."

---

He pointed toward the cabinet.

---

"Open it."

---

Daniel walked forward.

---

Slowly.

---

Carefully.

---

The others followed.

---

The cabinet stood in the center of the room like a monument.

---

A final answer.

A final secret.

---

Tobi examined the lock.

---

"It's not electronic."

---

Zara nodded.

---

"Use the silver key."

---

Daniel inserted the key.

---

For a moment nothing happened.

---

Then—

Click.

---

The lock opened.

---

Silence.

---

Daniel slowly pulled the cabinet door open.

---

Inside sat a single red file.

---

Nothing else.

---

Just one file.

---

Across the front were words written in black ink.

---

PROJECT SUCCESSOR

---

Underneath was another line.

---

CLASSIFIED

---

Daniel opened it.

---

Everyone leaned closer.

---

The first page contained a photograph.

---

A baby.

---

One of the four children.

---

Then another page.

---

And another.

---

Tobi flipped through them.

---

Hospital reports.

Psychological assessments.

Financial records.

Private investigations.

---

Victor had spent decades tracking all four children.

---

Every achievement.

Every failure.

Every friendship.

---

Everything.

---

Then Tobi reached the final page.

---

And froze.

---

His face turned pale.

---

"What?"

Daniel asked.

---

Tobi couldn't speak.

---

He simply turned the file around.

---

Everyone looked.

---

The room became completely silent.

---

At the center of the page was a photograph.

---

One photograph.

---

The photograph of the child Victor feared most.

---

The photograph belonged to—

---

Nobody.

---

The page was empty.

---

The room froze.

---

"What?"

Amara whispered.

---

Victor sighed.

---

"As expected."

---

Daniel looked up.

---

"What does this mean?"

---

Victor slowly walked closer.

---

For the first time...

He looked tired.

---

Older.

---

Almost defeated.

---

"It means the prophecy was never about one child."

---

Silence.

---

"It was about all four."

---

Nobody spoke.

---

Victor continued.

---

"The prophecy didn't say one child would destroy me."

---

"It said four would."

---

The room froze.

---

Daniel stared at him.

---

"You spent twenty-two years hunting us because of that?"

---

Victor nodded.

---

"At first."

---

"Then why keep searching?"

Amara asked.

---

Victor laughed softly.

---

"Because eventually I stopped fearing the prophecy."

---

The room became silent again.

---

"What were you afraid of then?"

Zara asked.

---

Victor looked directly at her.

---

"The truth."

---

Nobody expected that answer.

---

Not even David.

---

Victor lowered his head.

---

For the first time since meeting him...

He looked human.

---

Broken.

---

Regretful.

---

"The fire wasn't supposed to happen."

---

The room froze.

---

"What?"

Daniel whispered.

---

Victor nodded slowly.

---

"I wanted the babies."

---

"I never wanted anyone killed."

---

Silence.

---

"I never ordered the fire."

---

David stared at him.

---

"Then who did?"

---

Victor looked away.

---

His expression darkened.

---

"The person who believed the prophecy."

---

Nobody moved.

---

"The person who feared it more than I did."

---

Then Victor slowly pointed toward one of the archive shelves.

---

"Open drawer seven."

---

Daniel frowned.

---

"What?"

---

"Open it."

---

Nobody trusted him.

---

But eventually Zara walked over.

---

She pulled open the drawer.

---

Inside sat a thick folder.

---

Old.

---

Dusty.

---

Forgotten.

---

Across the front was a name.

---

The moment Mrs. Okonkwo saw it—

She gasped.

---

"No..."

---

David looked.

Then froze.

---

Daniel grabbed the folder.

---

The name read:

---

DR. SAMUEL ADEWALE

---

Uche's father.

---

The room exploded.

---

"What?!"

---

Uche stumbled backward.

---

"No."

---

Daniel quickly opened the file.

---

Inside were photographs.

Records.

Statements.

---

And one signed confession.

---

The confession detailed everything.

---

The hospital fire.

---

The cover-up.

---

The missing children.

---

The money.

---

Everything.

---

Uche stared at the pages.

---

Tears filled his eyes.

---

"My father..."

---

His voice cracked.

---

"...did all this?"

---

Nobody answered.

---

Because the evidence was overwhelming.

---

Then Daniel noticed something else.

---

A second signature.

---

At the bottom of the confession.

---

A witness signature.

---

Daniel's eyes widened.

---

The name wasn't Victor Hassan.

---

It wasn't Femi.

---

It wasn't David.

---

It wasn't Mrs. Okonkwo.

---

The signature belonged to only one person.

---

One person everyone thought was dead.

---

One person connected to every mystery.

---

One person whose name appeared everywhere.

---

GRACE HASSAN

---

The room became silent.

---

Victor slowly looked at Daniel.

---

Then smiled sadly.

---

"Now you know why your mother can never come back."

---

Nobody moved.

---

Nobody spoke.

---

Then Victor whispered:

---

"Because she was the one who exposed the truth."

---

And at that exact moment—

A hidden speaker inside the archive suddenly crackled to life.

---

A woman's voice filled the room.

---

A voice nobody had heard in twenty-two years.

---

A voice Daniel recognized instantly from the video tape.

---

Grace Hassan.

---

And the first words she spoke were:

> "If you're hearing this, Victor is finally telling the truth."
