NSCDC ANAMBRA STATE COMMANDANT JOINS OTHER SISTER SECURITY AGENCIES AND STATE GOVERNMENT IN WELCOMING NIGERIA'S FIRST LADY TO THE STATE`

The State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Anambra State Command, Commandant Maku Olatunde, on Thursday, 10th September 2026, joined Service Commanders and other eminent dignitaries in Anambra State to welcome Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on an official visit to the State.

The First Lady was received at the Chinua Achebe International Airport Umueri by the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo CFR and his wife Dr. Mrs Nonye Soludo alongside other senior government officials, and Heads of Security Agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigeria Immigration Service etc.

As part of her itinerary, the First Lady proceeded to the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, where she commissioned an ICT Centre to enhance teaching, learning and institutional capacity. During the visit, Her Excellency oversaw the empowerment of 5,000 residents under the Progressives United Against Poverty Initiative in partnership with the Anambra State Government and the Renewed Hope Initiative Economic Support Scheme at the Alex Ekwueme Square Awka. She also launched the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East geopolitical zone aimed at strengthening food security for vulnerable households.

Expressing satisfaction with the conduct of NSCDC operatives deployed for the visit code named" Ops Massive Deployment and Massive Movement", Commandant Maku reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to providing watertight security before, during, and after the First Lady’s visit in synergy with other sister security agencies.

He noted that the Command had extensively deployed operatives across key areas, including major roads, public venues and Critical National Assets and Infrastructure. Security was also strengthened at the airport, while patrols were increased along major entry and exit routes, particularly in the state capital, Awka.

According to him, "Senior officers, including Area Commanders, Divisional Officers and Heads of Tactical Units, pursuant to an operational order released for the visit, were tasked to coordinate security within their areas of responsibility, intensify proactive surveillance and enhance inter-agency collaboration throughout the entire operation." He added.

SAFE SCHOOLS INITIATIVE: NSCDC JOINS SISTER SECURITY AGENCIES FOR ON-THE-SPOT ASSESSMENT AT FEDERAL GOVERNMENT COLLEGE, NISE

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Anambra State Command, on Tuesday , 8th September 2026, joined other sister security agencies in a Security Stakeholders’ On-the-Spot Assessment visit and sensitisation programme on Safe Schools for the management, staff and students of Federal Government College, Nise, as part of efforts to strengthen safety and security in schools across the state.

The gathering, held under the Safe Schools Initiative, had in attendance key stakeholders including representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Local Vigilante Group, Nise Community Leaders, and the Management of Federal Government College, Nise. The awareness campaign was aimed at boosting the confidence of both the school management and the entire school community, assessing the security situation around the school, and providing useful security tips on emerging threats.

SC Afunanya Nneka Chibugo, the NSCDC Anambra Safe School Coordinator, who represented the State Commandant, Commandant Maku Olatunde, in her address to participants reaffirmed the importance of inter-agency collaboration, intelligence sharing, and community involvement in safeguarding students and school infrastructure.

She highlighted the achievements of the NSCDC in Safe Schools protection and called on the school management to work closely with the Command toward a secure and safe school environment.

Earlier, the Principal of FGC Nise briefed the house on prevailing security challenges within and around the school environment and solicited professional advice and support from security agencies.

At the end of the discussions, the team proceeded on an on-the-spot assessment of the entire school premises to identify vulnerable points and proffer immediate remedial measures.

Representatives of the NPF, DSS, Local Vigilante, and Community Leaders also made contributions on actionable strategies to enhance security.

The session concluded on a cordial note with all stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to collaborative security to ensure the safety of students and staff of Federal Government College, Nise.

The NSCDC Anambra State Command reiterates its resolve to continue working with relevant agencies and host communities to ensure a safe and secure learning environment in line with the Federal Government’s Safe Schools Initiative.

LAST MINUTE DEPLOYMENT AND RECONNAISSANCE CONDUCTED AHEAD OF FIRST LADY'S VISIT TO ANAMBRA STATE

In readiness for the visit of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Anambra State, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Anambra State Command, in conjunction with other security agencies, today carried out a final deployment and reconnaissance of all designated venues.

The exercise, which was carried out under the directive of the State Commandant, Commandant Maku Olatunde, is aimed at ensuring adequate security coverage, crowd control, and a hitch-free outing during the First Lady’s visit.

Key locations visited during the reconnaissance include Aroma Junction, Ekwueme Junction, Light House, Ekwueme Square, the Airport at Umueri, and adjoining towns. Commanders and leaders of unarmed personnel deployed to these strategic points were also briefed on their roles and responsibilities to maintain order and ensure the safety of lives and property.

Commandant Maku reaffirmed the Corps' commitment to working in synergy with sister security agencies to provide watertight security before, during, and after the visit. He further urged residents to go about their lawful businesses and to cooperate with security personnel deployed across the state.

The NSCDC Anambra State Command assures the good people of Anambra and visitors that all necessary measures have been put in place to guarantee a peaceful and successful visit.

NSCDC ANAMBRA STATE COMMAND WELCOMES ITS REPRESENTATIVE BACK FROM NATIONAL CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP FOR FEMALE SPECIAL FORCE

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, today, Wednesday, September 9, 2026, received back its representative, SC Ngozi Okoye, who participated in the just-concluded two-day National Capacity Building Workshop for the Female Special Force (FSF) held on the 2nd and 3rd of September 2026 at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.

SC Ngozi was formally received by the State Commandant, Commandant Maku Olatunde, at the State Command Headquarters, Awka. The reception underscores the Command’s commitment to strengthening operational capacity through knowledge transfer and continuous training of personnel.

Welcoming SC Ngozi back, Commandant Maku Olatunde commended the Commandant General for the initiative and charged the officer to step down the knowledge gained to other officers in the Command. He reiterated the Command’s resolve to support the FSF in Anambra State in enhancing intelligence gathering, protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), and community security.

Appreciating the State Commandant for sponsoring her to the capacity workshop, SC Ngozi Okoye, the NSCDC Anambra State Command Female Special Force Coordinator, reaffirmed the unit’s commitment to safeguarding CNAI and embedding data-driven intelligence into field operations.

She expressed appreciation for the opportunity, noting her zeal for professionalism, practical leadership, critical thinking, crime prevention, and the ability to deliver on her assigned mandate.

The national workshop was flagged off by the Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, and was aimed at boosting the operational efficiency and evidence-based research techniques of the FSF across all State Commands.

Speaking at the flag-off, the CG emphasized that sustainable peace and effective security require the active participation of women. He noted that the initiative aligns with UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and the NSCDC Gender Policy, which promote gender mainstreaming, equal opportunities, and tactical inclusion in national security.

The NSCDC Anambra State Command remains committed to supporting the Corps’ gender inclusion policy and to delivering on its mandate of protecting lives and property in the State.

FIRST LADY’S VISIT: NSCDC ASSURES WATERTIGHT SECURITY ON CRITICAL ASSETS AND INFRASTRUCTURE

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, has announced its preparedness for a watertight security on Critical National, State and Local Government Assets and Infrastructure during the official visit of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to Anambra State on Thursday.

The Head of Media and Tactical Operations of the Command, Superintendent of Corps, Edwin Okadigbo, made this known in Awka on Tuesday while briefing the press at the State Command Headquarters Awka.

Okadigbo disclosed that already visibility patrols had been activated across all the designated venues of the first Lady's engagement across the state to assure residents of their security, adding that there will be total security coverage before, during and after the visit.

According to him, the NSCDC State Commandant, Commandant Maku Olatunde in an operational order released for the visit has charged Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, Composite Commanders and Tactical Unit heads to implement proactive measures to safeguard all Critical Assets and Infrastructure, the high-profile visitor, VIPs, and members of the public during the event.

He charged personnel deployed for the operation to be on red alert and to complement the existing security architecture to ensure comprehensive coverage for a seamless and hitch-free visit.

“In line with our core mandate of protecting Critical National, State and Local Government Assets and Infrastructure, and ensuring the safety of lives and property, we have issued a detailed operational order to all officers deployed to various locations on the First Lady’s itinerary, to remain vigilant, disciplined and responsive to emerging situations,” he stated.

He further disclosed that the Command had put in place robust security measures and has harmonized its operational plans with other sister security agencies to guarantee a peaceful atmosphere before, during, and after the visit.

“We have mobilized sufficient armed and unarmed personnel to provide security cover for Her Excellency before, during, and after the visit. Our goal is to enable residents of Anambra State to receive the First Lady and her entourage in a safe and secure environment,” he added.

The Command enjoined members of the public to actively support the NSCDC's efforts by reporting any suspicious activities or any act capable of causing a breakdown of law and order to the nearest NSCDC formation for swift intervention through the following numbers; 08035781835 , 08036789255, or 08036172748.

“We will not tolerate any act that threatens public peace or targets critical government assets and infrastructure. Anyone found wanting will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he warned.

FIRST NIGER BRIDGE MAINTENANCE: NSCDC ANAMBRA LEADS OTHER SECURITY AGENCIES FOR JOINT SITE INSPECTION

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the statutory lead agency in the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, has led other sister security agencies to carry out an on-the-spot inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation and maintenance work at the First Niger Bridge, Onitsha, Anambra State.

Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC Anambra State Commandant represented by the Deputy Commandant in charge of Operations, DCC Akaachia Godwin, together with other Service Commanders visited the bridge on Monday, 7th September 2026, to assess the progress of work and evaluate potential security and traffic challenges that may arise during the rehabilitation period.

During the inspection, the NSCDC State helmsman reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to the protection of critical national infrastructure and the safety of commuters, pedestrians, and goods in transit, particularly along the designated diversion routes.

He further noted that the NSCDC will maintain close synergy with other security agencies to forestall gridlock, mitigate security threats, and ensure the free flow of both human and vehicular movement across all affected routes.

The Command disclosed that adequate personnel have been strategically deployed to key points around the bridge and along alternative routes to maintain order, deter criminal elements, and support seamless traffic management.

The Command assures members of the public of its resolve to sustain active monitoring and effective collaboration with all stakeholders to guarantee the protection of lives and property throughout the duration of the maintenance works.

NSCDC AND OTHER SECURITY AGENCIES HARMONIZE OPERATIONAL PLANS AHEAD OF THE FIRST LADY'S VISIT TO ANAMBRA STATE

In preparation for the forthcoming visit of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Anambra State on Thursday, 10th September, 2026, Service Commanders of all security agencies in the State held a strategic Security Operational plans Harmonization Meeting on Sunday, 6th September, 2026, at the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Awka.

The meeting, attended by Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC State Commandant, was convened to harmonize operational arrangements and ensure a hitch-free visit.

Key issues deliberated upon include inter-agency synergy for effective crowd control, traffic management, and VIP protection; deployment plans for personnel across all venues; intelligence gathering and threat assessment within the metropolis; as well as logistics and communication channels among security agencies.

Following the meeting, the Service Commanders embarked on an on-the-spot assessment of designated venues for the visit. The delegation inspected the Old Government House, Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, and the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS). During the inspection, critical areas such as access points, parking arrangements, emergency exit routes, and the overall security architecture of each location were assessed. Relevant observations and recommendations were noted for immediate implementation.

At the end of the deliberations and inspection, it was resolved that all security agencies will operate under a unified command structure for the duration of the visit. Adequate personnel will be deployed to all venues ahead of time. Visible diversion pointers and traffic control measures will be put in place to ease the movement of commuters. There will also be continuous liaison with other stakeholders, including the State Government, to ensure seamless coordination.

Meanwhile, a follow-up visit was conducted on Monday, 8th September, 2026, to other designated places including the Chinua Achebe International Airport, Umueri; Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square Awka, Nwagu
Agulu ; Federal Polytechnic Oko , PHC Amawbia/Old Governor's Lodge, Amawbia and first Niger Bridge Onitsha. The visit had in attendance Deputy Commandant Akaachia Godwin, Head of Operations Department, who stood in for the State Commandant.

The NSCDC State Commandant, Commandant Maku Olatunde, stated that the joint meeting and venue inspection are aimed at ensuring the safety of the First Lady, other dignitaries, and citizens during the visit. He assured that all security arrangements are in top gear to guarantee a peaceful and successful event.

Members of the public are therefore advised to cooperate with security operatives and adhere to traffic advisories that will be issued during the period of the visit.

NSCDC ANAMBRA STATE COMMAND SET TO PROVIDE SECURITY AROUND FIRST NIGER BRIDGE DURING REPAIR WORKS

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, has concluded plans to deploy adequate security operatives to the First Niger Bridge and its surrounding areas ahead of the emergency maintenance works on the bridge from Monday, September 7, 2026 till Monday, September 21, 2026.

The State Commandant, Commandant Maku Olatunde, disclosed this on Sunday, 6th September 2026, while reviewing the operational plans for the exercise at the State Command Headquarters, Awka.

According to the State Commandant, the temporary closure of the Niger Bridge for rehabilitation is a strategic federal project aimed at safeguarding lives and restoring a safe, smooth and durable riding surface for interstate connectivity. In line with the Corps’ core mandate of protecting Critical National, State and Local Government Assets and Infrastructure, the Command has deployed tactical and regular personnel to the site and adjoining areas.

“Consistent with our statutory responsibility, we have mobilized armed and unarmed officers to provide 24-hour security for the engineers, equipment, and the bridge infrastructure throughout the repair period. We are also working closely with other security agencies to ensure a hitch-free operation,” he stated.

Commandant Maku further noted that traffic diversion routes have been mapped out in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Works and sister agencies to minimize hardship for road users. Motorists are advised to use the Second Niger Bridge route through Obosi towards Asaba, Delta State, throughout the closure period.

He appealed to motorists and commuters to cooperate with security personnel and traffic officials, obey all diversion signs, and avoid acts that could undermine public order around the project site.

“We urge residents and road users to remain patient and law-abiding. Anyone found vandalizing government property or obstructing the contractor handling the project, will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” he warned.
