African cocoa farmers demand change:

After a recent meeting in Abidjan, African cocoa farmers (COCEFAAA) want to reshape the global cocoa market to benefit producers, not just buyers. They praised Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire’s leaders for taking charge but warned that more African countries must unite to protect small farmers from price swings.

Key demands:
- $6,000 minimum price per tonne of cocoa to ensure fair pay.
- More local processing in Africa to capture more of the $165B chocolate market (Africa currently gets only 6% of the profits).
- Control over prices—not leaving it to London/New York markets.

They want Africa to stop being just a raw material supplier and gain more value from its cocoa.
