This year’s World Teachers’ Day theme carries weight: Standing with Teachers.
It is not celebrating teachers.
It is not thanking teachers.
It is…..Standing with them.
There is something important in that choice of words.
To stand with someone is to move beyond applause and ask harder questions about their dignity, their working conditions, their voice, their wellbeing and the value we place on their work.
And there is another dimension we should not overlook.
Standing with teachers is also, in many contexts, a gender justice issue.
Women make up a significant share, and in many education systems the majority, of the teaching workforce, particularly in the earlier years of schooling.
So when teachers are poorly paid, overworked, under-resourced, unheard or expected to endlessly absorb the emotional labour of caring for children, those conditions have a gendered dimension too.
We cannot build education systems on the sacrifice of the people who hold them together.
At The Learning Craft, we believe standing with teachers must mean something tangible.
Because the teacher who gives so much of herself to helping children flourish deserves an education system equally committed to helping her flourish.
This World Teachers’ Day, we are not only celebrating teachers.
We stand with you.
Today. And beyond today.

Still Becoming
Keep what holds, and mend what leaks.
Let every child hold a pencil and a future of their own.
Nigeria, you were never only what you inherited.
You are also what we dare to begin.
Happy 66th, Nigeria.
The smartest teacher in your school may not be the one you remember.
But the one who noticed you were not okay?
That one, you never forgot.
That ability to notice, understand and respond well to people matters far beyond the classroom.
In a survey of over 2,600 hiring managers and HR professionals, 71% said they valued emotional intelligence over IQ.
Because knowing your work matters.
But so does how you handle yourself, pressure, conflict and people.
We call it emotional intelligence. And most teachers were never taught it.
We were trained to teach the subject.
Manage the classroom.
Cover the curriculum.
Get the results.
But who taught us to understand our own triggers?
Who taught us to regulate ourselves under pressure?
Who taught us to look beneath behaviour?
Who taught us to correct without disconnecting?
Who taught us to create classrooms where children can genuinely flourish?
Or care for the person doing all that teaching?
That is the work we began with our founding cohort, and their feedback has been phenomenal.
We have educated the head for generations. It is time to educate the heart, too.
Cohort 2 of Emotional Intelligence & Wellbeing for Educators is now open.
And this is our final cohort for the 2026/2027 academic year.

As schools are steep into the final term of the academic year across West Africa, many leaders are already beginning conversations around next session’s design, culture, priorities and learner development.
One thing is becoming increasingly clear:
The future will reward academic excellence, yes; but not increasingly so.
The FUTURE will consistently and increasingly reward emotional intelligence, resilience, collaboration, adaptability, empathy and human skills. And we see it clearly as the critical learning decision leaders should take.
At TLC, we are already working with schools and parent communities preparing intentionally for the next academic year through the NDU Social and Emotional Learning Programme and Toolkit.

Most Nigerian schools are not weak.
They are overloaded.
Good people.
Hardworking staff.
Strong intention.
But too many things happening at once.
Too many meetings.
Too many initiatives each term.
Too many decisions flowing to one person.
Everyone is busy.
But is the system working?
The School Coherence Toolkit helps leadership teams simplify:
• Clear focus
• Clear decision levels
• Clear term reset plan
So your school runs on system — not stress.
Because effort does not scale.
Systems do.
