PRESS RELEASE

GOMBE PDP RAISES ALARM OVER ALLEGED PRODUCTION OF FAKE MEMBERSHIP CARDS AHEAD OF GOVERNORSHIP PRIMARY

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Gombe State Chapter, has received information from what it considers reliable sources that the administration of Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya has allegedly engaged some individuals to produce Twenty Thousand (20,000) fake PDP membership cards ahead of the repeat Gubernatorial Primary Election scheduled for Tuesday, 29th September, 2026, pursuant to the directive of the Federal High Court, Gombe.

According to the information received by the Party, the alleged fake membership cards are intended to be distributed to women and other individuals, reportedly with an inducement of about ₦10,000 per person.

The Party further alleges that there is a plan to cause disruption during the primary election and subsequently blame the PDP, with the intention of creating the impression that the election was marred by crisis and that non-PDP members were denied voting rights.

The PDP wishes to state that, in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2022, as amended, only eligible party members whose names are contained in the register submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) within the stipulated period are entitled to participate in the primary election. The Party says evidence of the relevant register and compliance with the applicable legal requirements has been provided.

The PDP therefore calls on the relevant security agencies to investigate these allegations and take appropriate action if any wrongdoing is established.

The Party also urges all its members, supporters and stakeholders to remain peaceful, law-abiding and orderly throughout the electoral process. No individual or group should allow itself to be provoked into any action capable of undermining the peaceful conduct of the primary election.

The PDP further alleges that the Gombe State Government has continued to deploy state resources toward activities it considers unrelated to addressing the challenges facing the people of Gombe State, including the engagement of social media influencers from outside the state.

The PDP remains committed to a peaceful, transparent and credible primary election and urges all stakeholders to respect the rules governing the process.

The fear of PDP in Gombe State is the beginning of wisdom.

PRESS RELEASE

PDP ACCUSES GOVERNOR INUWA YAHAYA’S GOVERNMENT OF NONCHALANCE OVER DIPHTHERIA OUTBREAK IN GOMBE STATE

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Gombe State Chapter, has accused the APC-led administration in Gombe State, under the leadership of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, of exhibiting a nonchalant attitude towards the reported spread of diphtheria in the state.

Reliable reports gathered by the Party indicate that there has been an outbreak of diphtheria in some states across the North-Central and North-Eastern regions of Nigeria, including Gombe State.

Diphtheria is a serious bacterial infection that primarily affects the throat and airways. Common symptoms include sore throat and pain when swallowing, fever and chills, weakness and tiredness, nasal discharge, and, in some cases, a bloody cough. Severe cases may also cause a rapid heartbeat and other serious complications.

The disease can lead to airway obstruction as well as heart and nerve complications. Anyone suspected of having diphtheria should be taken to a health facility immediately and should avoid close contact with others until properly assessed. Diphtheria is preventable through vaccination, including DPT/DTaP/Td vaccines.

Against the backdrop of the reported prevalence of the disease in the region, schools have already been closed in Plateau and Bauchi States, while intensive public enlightenment, sensitisation, vaccination and other health interventions are being undertaken in affected areas. In neighbouring Yobe State, reports also indicate that the disease is spreading.

The situation report available to the PDP in Gombe State indicates that the disease, which predominantly affects children, has reportedly led to the admission of nine persons at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, with additional cases reported at the Federal Medical Centre, Kumo, as well as General Hospitals in Bajoga and Billiri.

The PDP Gombe State Chapter therefore strongly condemns what it considers the failure of the APC-led State Government to take sufficiently proactive measures to contain the reported spread of the disease, despite indications of its presence in the state.

The PDP also challenges Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to demonstrate greater commitment to human capital development and public healthcare. While the government continues to commit substantial resources to infrastructural projects, the Party maintains that the health and wellbeing of citizens must remain a priority, as the protection of human life is fundamental to any meaningful development.

The Peoples Democratic Party, Gombe State Chapter, therefore calls on the State Government to:

1. Publicly clarify the status of diphtheria in Gombe State and explain the steps being taken to contain and prevent its further spread.
2. Immediately announce and implement preventive measures to protect schoolchildren and the general public from contracting the disease.
3. Publicise sustainable health intervention strategies, including sensitisation, public enlightenment, surveillance, testing, treatment and vaccination programmes being implemented since the reported outbreak.
4. Strengthen collaboration with relevant health authorities and institutions to ensure prompt detection, treatment and containment of suspected and confirmed cases across the state.

The PDP Gombe State Chapter reminds the APC-led administration that the lives and wellbeing of the people of Gombe State must not be treated with levity. The government must demonstrate urgency and transparency in responding to this public health concern.

After reportedly spending millions of Naira on Hausa praise singers from Kano, the people of Gombe State are entitled to know how much the State Government is prepared to commit towards protecting their lives and preventing the further spread of this deadly disease.

PRESS RELEASE

GOVERNOR INUWA YAHAYA’S GOVERNMENT ACCUSED OF COLLECTING VOTERS' CARDS, ACCOUNT DETAILS AND THUMB PRINT FOR EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM

The attention of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, Gombe State has been drawn to information going round that the APC Government in the State under Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya is collecting personal details such as account number, voters card and thumb print from unsuspecting individuals in the name of disbursing palliatives to the people.

The State chapter of the PDP expresses strong concern over the action of the ruling APC Government led by Governor Inuwa Yahaya, pointing out that if the state government genuinely wishes to disburse any kind of support it should be done freely, transparently, and without coercing citizens to surrender sensitive personal information.

It should be noted that the empowerment program is being funded from the public treasury whereby each and every individual is entitled to such materials irrespective of his political leaning. Hence there is no obligation on the people as a condition for obtaining the materials. The insistence by the administration of Governor Inuwa Yahaya to demand voters card and biometric data as a prerequisite is therefore unnecessary, unlawful, and a clear attempt to profile citizens.

Section 37 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria guarantees every citizen the right to privacy, stating that "the privacy of citizens, their homes, correspondence, telephone conversations and telegraphic communications is hereby guaranteed and protected." This right extends to personal data because such information reveals a person’s identity, choices, and associations.

A Voter’s Card should be treated under this right because it contains sensitive personal information including name, photograph, date of birth, address, NIN, and polling unit details that can be used to identify, profile, or target an individual. Mishandling, collecting without consent, or disclosing PVC data can therefore infringe on a citizen’s constitutional privacy and expose them to intimidation, fraud, or political manipulation.

The People's Democratic Party PDP, Gombe State therefore cautions individuals in the state not to give out their personal details to such unpatriotic elements for whatever reason or material benefits. Be warned that your voters card is your weapon during the forthcoming elections in order to bring about purposeful leadership in the Gombe State.

To be forewarned is to be forearmed.

PRESS RELEASE

GOMBE TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS’ STRIKE: PDP CONDEMNS INUWA YAHAYA GOVERNMENT’S NEGLIGENCE

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Gombe State Chapter, strongly condemns the failure of the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to address the legitimate welfare demands of workers in Gombe State-owned tertiary institutions.

Despite receiving a fourteen-day ultimatum from the Joint Union of Gombe State Tertiary Institutions (JOUGTIN) on 17 August 2026, the state government failed to take meaningful action before the ultimatum expired on 31 August 2026. Consequently, the affected workers commenced a fourteen-day warning strike on 2 September 2026.

The PDP holds the Governor Inuwa Yahaya administration responsible for allowing the situation to escalate to this point, thereby disrupting students’ academic activities and further worsening the hardship faced by workers, parents and families across the state.

As Nelson Mandela famously said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

Unfortunately, the Inuwa Yahaya administration has continued to neglect the welfare of lecturers, other academic and non-academic staff, and students in the state’s tertiary institutions. Workers are being denied legitimate entitlements, while students and their parents continue to bear the consequences of the government’s failure to resolve these issues.

It is particularly concerning that an administration that claims to be committed to the development of education could allegedly prioritise spending hundreds of millions of naira on Hausa praise singers from outside the state, while workers in Gombe State-owned tertiary institutions continue to struggle with unpaid or outstanding entitlements.

The PDP had, at the time, condemned the alleged expenditure as a waste of taxpayers’ money. To date, the government has not adequately explained or justified the rationale behind such spending. The PDP maintains that resources reportedly spent on such activities could have been used to address a significant portion of the legitimate demands currently being raised by JOUGTIN.

Beyond the current strike, the PDP is also concerned that, apart from the failure to establish any new higher institution of learning in the state, the Inuwa Yahaya administration appears to be neglecting existing institutions established by previous administrations, thereby putting their sustainability and quality of education at risk.

The PDP therefore calls on the Gombe State Government to immediately engage with JOUGTIN in good faith, present a credible and time-bound timetable for resolving all verified outstanding entitlements, commence the payment of legitimate benefits and take concrete steps to prevent the current warning strike from becoming indefinite.

The PDP stands firmly with the affected workers and students. When elected in 2027, a PDP administration will prioritise the resolution of all legitimate outstanding entitlements and introduce transparent, sustainable and worker-friendly policies that will protect the welfare and dignity of workers while strengthening the state’s education sector.

The Governor Inuwa Yahaya administration must stop neglecting its workers and act immediately to resolve the issues at hand in the interest of education, workers and the people of Gombe State.
