JEWEL Environmental Initiative (JEI) joins the Gombe State Students Association (GOSSA) to kick-start the celebration of Gombe State @ 30 with a symbolic tree-planting campaign at the Gombe State Ministry of Education.
The campaign, running from 29 September to 2 October 2026, brings together environmental action and youth engagement, using tree planting as a symbol of our shared commitment to a greener, healthier and more resilient Gombe State.
To mark this historic milestone, we are leading a joint campaign focused on Climate Action through Tree Planting alongside raising critical awareness on Drug Abuse and Mental Health.
The celebration also highlights the importance of addressing social challenges affecting young people, including drug abuse and mental health awareness.
As Gombe State marks 30 years, JEI is proud to contribute to a celebration that looks beyond the past and invests in the environment and the next generation.
30 years of Gombe State.
30 years of growth.
Hereโs to a future we must make,
a greener,
a healthier and
a more resilient.

Environmental restoration must reach the people and places that need it most.
At JEWEL Environmental Initiative, our mission takes us into every corner and community working side by side with local residents to build grassroots resilience where it matters most.
JEWEL Environmental Initiative recently took its Local Restoration Campaign directly into the community through a tree-planting exercise at Wuro Baduku, a vulnerable community on the outskirts of Gombe metropolis.
Rather than waiting for the environmental challenges, JEI is going into the nooks and crannies of vulnerable communities, identifying degraded landscapes and taking practical restoration action where people live and depend on the land.
๐ณ We planted trees.
๐ฑ We restored degraded spaces.
๐ค We engaged the community.
๐ We strengthened local action for climate resilience.
At Wuro Baduku, increasing pressure from land clearing, extreme weather events, vegetation loss and environmental degradation is contributing to a landscape increasingly vulnerable to the impacts of climate variability and erosion.
Our response is rooted in a community-based ecosystem restoration using right trees that adapt the semi-arid (Parkia bigilibosa) to improve the landscape while encouraging local ownership and long-term stewardship.
For us at JEI, tree planting is not an isolated activity. It is part of a broader commitment to help vulnerable communities adapt, restore and build a resilient in the face of climate change.
Because climate action should not stop at the city limits.
It must reach the settlements, households, farms, open spaces and communities where environmental vulnerability is experienced every day.

Environmental restoration cannot happen from behind a desk.
It requires going into the communities, walking the streets, listening to the people and understanding the realities of the landscapes they call home.
At Hayin Kwarin-Misau, we takes its local restoration campaign directly into a vulnerable community facing the growing pressures of land degradation, erosion and climate change.
From the main roads to the nooks and crannies of the community, our team is engaging with residents, observing environmental challenges and supporting practical actions that can contribute to a healthier and more resilient landscape.
This is what community-led restoration looks like.
It is about identifying challenges on the ground.
It is about engaging the people who live with those challenges every day.
It is about restoring degraded landscapes with locally appropriate solutions.
And it is about ensuring that environmental action reaches communities that need it most.
Our work at Hayin Kwarin-Misau reflects JEIโs commitment to taking environmental protection, climate action and ecosystem restoration to the grassroots.
Because the most vulnerable communities should not be left behind in the fight against climate change.
We donโt just visit communities. We listen, engage, restore and build resilienceโone community at a time.

Environmental education becomes more powerful when learning moves beyond the classroom and thatโs exactly what we are doing at JEWEL Environmental Initiative.
We are creating opportunities for students to experience nature, understand how the ecosystems works and develop a deeper responsibility toward protecting our environment.
๐ฟ Kanawa Forest Reserve is becoming a living classroom โ a nature laboratory where students learn directly from the forest.
Through our environmental education outreach, over 7,891 students have been engaged through learning experiences designed to connect young people with biodiversity, forests, climate change, conservation and sustainable environmental practices.
Instead of simply telling students about forests, we bring them into the forest.
Here, students can observe and discuss:
๐ณ Forest biodiversity โ identifying and understanding the importance of trees, plants and other organisms that make up an ecosystem.
๐ฆ Pollinators and wildlife โ discovering the relationships between plants, insects, birds and other forms of life.
๐ฑ Forest regeneration โ learning how natural ecosystems recover and why protecting existing vegetation is essential.
๐ Climate change & ecosystem services โ understanding how forests contribute to carbon sequestration, soil protection, water regulation and climate resilience.
๐พ Sustainable resource management โ exploring how communities can benefit from the goods and services of forests without destroying the ecosystems that support them.
๐ฌ Nature-based learning โ encouraging students to observe, ask questions, identify species and develop scientific curiosity through direct interaction with nature.
Our vision is for Kanawa Forest Reserve is simple, which is to serve not merely as a protected landscape, but as a living nature laboratory for the next generation of environmental stewards.
Every visit is an opportunity to transform curiosity into knowledge, knowledge into responsibility, and responsibility into action.
With 7,891+ students reached and counting, JEI continues to invest in environmental education because we believe that the transforming the reserve into more than a forest and becoming a living nature laboratory where students can learn about biodiversity, forests, climate change, conservation, ecosystem services and the importance of protecting our natural heritage.
Our work at Kanawa Forest Reserve also represents a grassroots contribution to the Gombe State Green Agenda by supporting environmental awareness, ecosystem restoration, biodiversity conservation and the development of environmentally responsible citizens.
A greener Gombe requires more than planting trees. It requires knowledge, ownership and a generation equipped to preserve the natural resources those trees are meant to support.
