After months of independent assessment, field verification, community feedback, and performance tracking, we are proud to release the Lagos Reporters 300-Day Performance Ranking of Lagos’ 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), covering the period from 27 July 2025 to 23 May 2026.

Ibeju-Lekki Emerges Number One in Lagos

Our evaluation places Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, under the leadership of Olowa Abdullahi, at the top of the ranking with 19,500 points. The council stood out for its visible infrastructure projects, environmental initiatives, community engagement, and development-driven governance.

These councils distinguished themselves through measurable impact in healthcare, education, job creation, environmental sanitation, youth empowerment, and responsiveness to residents’ needs.

At the lower end of the table, our findings show that several councils still face major challenges in service delivery, infrastructure ex*****on, and community development.

Igando-Ikotun LCDA — 5,800 points

Imota LCDA — 5,850 points

Ojokoro LCDA — 6,050 points

Olorunda LCDA — 6,500 points

While some of these councils initiated projects during the review period, our assessment found that many lacked visible implementation, sustained impact, or strong engagement with residents.

How Lagos Reporters Conducted the Ranking

This ranking was not based on politics, popularity, or party affiliation. Lagos Reporters independently assessed councils using key governance indicators, including:

Our team engaged residents across multiple communities, reviewed project ex*****on on ground, and analysed publicly available records to ensure fairness and credibility.

Why This Ranking Matters

Local governments are the closest arm of government to the people. Roads, markets, drainage, primary healthcare, sanitation, schools, and community development all begin at the grassroots level.

Through this ranking, Lagos Reporters aims to:

The ranking shows that some councils are proving that effective grassroots leadership is possible, while others must do more to justify the confidence and resources entrusted to them.

For Lagos to truly become a cleaner, safer, and more prosperous megacity, strong local governance cannot be optional — it must be the standard.

CONDOLENCES

On behalf of the Lagos State Government, the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, extends his heartfelt condolences to the family of late Comrade Domingo, Michael Adeleke, who passed away on Monday, 8th June 2026, following a brief illness during the ongoing 114th Session of the International Labour Convention in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Lagos State Government commiserates with his family, colleagues, members of the Labour Centres, and workers across Lagos State on this unexpected, painful and irreparable loss.

Until his passing, Comrade Domingo served as the Chairman of the Lagos State Joint Negotiating Council (JNC).

He was a delegate of the Lagos State group to the 114th Convention when he reportedly took ill and subsequently passed on.

The Head of Service described the late labour leader as a dedicated and committed unionist who devoted his career to promoting the welfare, rights, and interests of workers.

The Head of Service further disclosed that arrangements are currently underway to repatriate his body to Nigeria.

May Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest and comfort his family, colleagues, and loved ones during this difficult time.

May his legacy of selfless service and commitment to the advancement of workers' welfare continue to inspire generations to come.

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially unveiled Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as its Deputy Governorship candidate for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election, confirming her place on the party’s ticket alongside its governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat.

The announcement was made by the Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, who disclosed that Sonayon-James emerged after extensive consultations and a rigorous selection process involving key stakeholders across the party.

According to Ojelabi, the decision was guided by several factors, including leadership capacity, political experience, grassroots appeal, loyalty to the party, and commitment to progressive governance.

He described Sonayon-James as an energetic grassroots mobiliser and development-focused leader whose contributions to community development, women empowerment, youth inclusion, and social intervention programmes have earned her widespread recognition across Lagos State.

The APC chairman noted that her track record in governance, policy implementation, stakeholder engagement, and developmental initiatives positions her as a strong candidate capable of effectively supporting the administration of the state if elected.

Ojelabi further stated that the Hamzat–Sonayon-James ticket represents a strategic blend of experience, innovation, inclusiveness, and visionary leadership designed to consolidate and expand the developmental strides Lagos State has recorded over the years.

Princess Sonayon-James has built a reputation as a committed advocate for educational advancement, youth development, community empowerment, and humanitarian services. Her involvement in various social impact projects has continued to strengthen her standing as one of the most influential grassroots political figures within the state.

The party maintained that her emergence underscores the APC’s commitment to promoting inclusive governance, increasing women's participation in leadership, empowering young people, and sustaining the growth and prosperity of Lagos State.

As preparations gradually begin for the 2027 governorship election, the APC called on its members, supporters, and residents across Lagos State to rally behind the Hamzat–Sonayon-James ticket, expressing confidence that the duo possesses the vision, competence, and leadership qualities needed to move the state to greater heights.

BREAKING: Oyo Government Demolishes Building Used as Kidnappers’ Hideout in Adelabu Family Abduction🔥🔥

The Oyo State Government has demolished a three-bedroom bungalow located in the Lako Community, Aiyegun- Anaye road area of Ibadan, which was allegedly used as a hideout by kidnappers involved in the abduction of the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Bayo Adelabu, and her children.

The demolition exercise was carried out on Monday by officials of the Oyo State Ministry of Public Works and Transportation, accompanied by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, who visited the scene as part of ongoing efforts to tackle kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state.

The victims, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, were abducted at Elewura, Challenge area of Ibadan on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

The state government said the action underscores its commitment to combating insecurity and dismantling criminal networks operating within Oyo State.

Oyo State Police Command Operation: Rescue of Kidnapped Woman and Her Twin Sons

Here is a detailed description of each of the suspects' participation in the kidnapping

Kelechi: Served as a lookout at the gang’s hideout. He engaged police operatives in a shootout upon their arrival and was neutralised along with another gang member.

• Unidentified gang member: Participated in holding the victims at the hideout and was neutralised during the confrontation.

Arrested Suspects:
• Wale Abolalewa, alias “Oloro”: A key member of the kidnapping syndicate already on the police watchlist. His arrest provided critical intelligence that unravelled the network. He participated in the planning and ex*****on of the abduction.

• Dare Oyedele, alias “Solution”: Identified as a principal operational link in the gang. He was involved in the surveillance, planning, and ex*****on of the kidnapping. Both “Oloro” and “Solution” are in custody and assisting investigators.

• Semiu Ishola (aged 39 years): Acted as an agent who facilitated and contracted the use of the criminal hideout at Lado community, Ayegun, Ibadan.

• Adeyemi Ayobami (aged 35 years): Similarly served as an agent responsible for securing and facilitating the hideout used to hold the victims.
Additional Context on the Gang’s Activities

The syndicate conducted structured surveillance on the victims’ family, including monitoring daily routines, photographing vehicles and school environments, and attempting to recruit an insider (one Segun, a household staff member) in May 2026. They initially targeted the family before executing the abduction using the unregistered Toyota Camry.

How the Police Carried Out the Rescue
1. Initial Response: Following the distress report on 3rd June 2026, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State, directed an immediate intelligence-driven manhunt involving the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT), Oyo State Police Command, and other tactical units.

2. Intelligence Gathering: Operatives used crime scene analysis, digital footprints, and surveillance to track the gang. The arrest of Wale Abolalewa (“Oloro”) served as a breakthrough, leading to further arrests and identification of the hideout at Lado community, Ayegun, Ibadan.

3. Tactical Operation: On 6th June 2026 at about 7:30 p.m., operatives stormed the hideout in a coordinated raid. When Kelechi opened fire, police responded decisively, neutralising two kidnappers while ensuring the victims’ safety.

4. Outcome: The victims were rescued unhurt, taken into protective custody, and later reunited with their families. Exhibits recovered included 3 pump-action ri**es, 14 live cartridges, the abduction vehicle (unregistered ash-coloured Toyota Corolla), criminal charms, a battle axe, a hammer, suspected hard drugs, and face masks.
Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate, some believed to have sustained gunshot injuries.
