This piece grew from a sketch I made years ago, one I didn’t fully understand at the time.
Today, it carries a meaning shaped by time and experience.

Life hand each of us a different set of cards: moments, experiences, challenges, blessings.
Some come bright and full of promise, others heavy with lessons we didn’t ask for.
But the real story isn’t in the cards themselves…
it’s in how we choose to hold them, learn from them, and play them with intention.

This work is a reflection on growth, choice, and the quiet strength that comes from understanding your own journey.
Every card, every lesson, every choice, they all come together to form the narrative we carry forward.

“Eni A De Lade"
This painting draws from a Yoruba adage, “Eni l’ori o ni fila, eni ni fila o l’ori”, exploring the natural imbalance and diversity of human life, a poetic reminder that no one possesses it all. Each panel reflects a different phase of human experience: the absence, the imbalance, and the harmony found in purpose.
The added phrase “Eni a de lade” (he that is crowned) extends the wisdom of the proverb. It speaks to the idea that nature may distribute gifts unequally, yet through persistence and grace, everyone can be crowned in their own way. For nature withholds nothing from those who keep reaching. 👑
