NTI Committed to Reaching the Unreached and Underserved – Chief Executive, Prof. Daura

-NTI, Sydani Group Express Commitment to Partner in Teacher Training

Prof. Sadiya Sani Daura, the Director and Chief Executive of the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Kaduna, Nigeria’s foremost teacher training institute, said the Institute operates centres across the country and is committed to reaching the unreached, especially the underserved communities nationwide.

The Director and Chief Executive disclosed this at an engagement meeting with officials of Sydani Group, an international development consulting firm on Tuesday, July 14 in Kaduna, during their visit to the Institute. She said NTI has been at the forefront of producing qualified teachers for Basic and Post-Basic education through Nigeria Certificate in Education, Pivotal Teacher Training Programme, Bachelor Degree Programme and Post-Graduate Diploma in Education programmes.

She expressed appreciation to Sydani Group for the invitation extended to NTI, and commended the Director of Field Operations, Student Services and Quality Assurance, and the Director of Academic Services, who represented her at the previous engagement that sparked this visit.

Prof.Daura, however, stated that the challenges of the 21st century in education delivery, data management, quality assurance, and students’ empowerment cannot be solved by government alone.

"This is why we value partnerships with credible, innovative and impact-driven organisations like Sydani Group," she stated.

She emphasised that there are areas of convergence between NTI’s mandate and Sydani Group, particularly in the digital transformation of NTI’s field operations, strengthening quality assurance and monitoring and evaluation systems, students’ support, capacity building and empowerment initiatives, and data-driven decision-making for improved service delivery.

Speaking on the recent SMASE staff trip to Zambia focused on knowledge co-creation, the Institute’s Chief Executive stated that the knowledge and skills acquired from the programme would be integrated into NTI’s curriculum due to their significance

Prof. Daura described the meeting as strategic and expressed optimism that at the end of the engagement, there would be clear, actionable areas of collaboration that would be mutually beneficial to NTI, Sydani Group, and ultimately to Nigerian teachers and learners.

"I want to assure you that NTI is ready and open for business. We have the structure, the reach, and the mandate. What we need now are strategic partners who share our vision of quality education for all," she concluded.

In his remarks, the Team Lead for Sydani Group, Andikan Ibanga, Associate Principal/ Education Sector Lead, said the group realised that teachers are very critical in transforming education in Nigeria.

" We want to engage with relevant partners in teacher education, that is why we are in NTI," he said.

He stated that gaps have been identified and needed to be addressed.The Team Lead highlighted potential areas of collaboration, including entrepreneurship, digital transformation, vocational skills development and capacity building.He also reaffirmed Sydani's commitment to train some staff of NTI.

Highlights of the engagement featured presentations from:Andikan Ibanga, about Sydani Group, Dr.Oyedeji Mobolaji Omobola, Director, Academic Services Department, on NTI programmes, delivery and affiliation and Dr.Angela Ekwutosi Ozibo, Director FOSS and Quality Assurance Department NTI on micro-teaching and language, NTI e-library, and digital administration.
