Breaking News: APC Chieftains Reject Tinubu’s Plan to Appoint Wike Campaign Coordinator

APC chieftains, led by Joe Anderson, have strongly opposed President Bola Tinubu’s reported plan to appoint Nyesom Wike as Campaign Coordinator for Rivers State and Abuja.

In a statement issued after a meeting of senior party leaders, Anderson and other APC stakeholders declared that Wike is not a member of the All Progressives Congress and therefore should not be given any official position within the party’s campaign structure.

“Wike is not a member of our party and should not be handed any role as Coordinator,” the chieftains said, insisting that only committed APC members should occupy strategic campaign positions.

The group argued that assigning such a sensitive role to someone outside the party would undermine internal cohesion and demoralise loyal members who have worked for the APC over the years.

The opposition comes amid growing speculation that the Presidency is considering Wike for the dual coordinator role covering Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory. Party leaders under Anderson’s leadership have made it clear they will continue to resist the appointment.

BREAKING: Peter Okoye Admits Receiving $800,000 P-Square Royalties, Says Jude Got Nothing

P-Square singer Peter Okoye has admitted in court that he received about $800,000 in royalties from French music rights organisation SACEM for P-Square songs, but said he did not give his elder brother, Jude Okoye, any share.

Peter made the admission while being cross-examined by Jude’s lawyer, Clement Onwuewunor, SAN, before Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Lagos.

Peter maintained that the money belonged to him and his twin brother, Paul Okoye, because they were the artistes behind P-Square.

When asked whether he informed Jude about the payments, Peter reportedly replied: “No, the money was for the artists.”

He also maintained that Jude was not a member of P-Square, although he acknowledged that Jude directed some of the group’s music videos.

Jude Okoye and Northside Music Limited are facing EFCC charges over alleged ₦1.3 billion and $1 million fraud. Jude has pleaded not guilty.

The latest testimony has added a new dimension to the ongoing financial dispute surrounding the former P-Square group.

In a major political realignment in Zamfara State, over 5,000 supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have defected to the Nigerial Democratic Congress (NDC). The group was led by former Senator Kabir Garba Marafa, who previously served as the APC Coordinator for the Tinubu/
Shettima campaign in 2023.

The defectors were formally received in Abuja by the NDC
National Leadership. The development is described as a major boost to the party’s grassroots strength and growing influence in the North-West ahead of future elections.

BREAKING: Plateau Govt. Suspends VIO Operations After Attacks, Orders Probe Into Transport Sector

Plateau State Ministry of Transport has suspended the activities of Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) effective Monday, September 21, 2026, following recent violent clashes between VIO personnel and transport operators in Jos.

Commissioner for Transport, Davou Gyang Jatau, announced the suspension during an emergency meeting with officials of the ministry, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and tricycle operators.

The commissioner directed transport unions to produce members captured in video footage assaulting VIO officers, warning that anyone arrested by law enforcement would face prosecution.

The ministry also announced the creation of a complaint unit where motorists can report grievances concerning VIO operations.

According to the ministry, about 80 per cent of vehicles operating in the state are without valid documentation, while underage persons are increasingly being used to operate commercial tricycles and motor vehicles.

The commissioner ordered enforcement of statutory driving-age requirements and directed that monthly meetings be held between transport unions and the Directorate of Vehicle Inspection to address complaints and operational issues.

The latest action follows earlier concerns over complaints against VIO personnel in Plateau.

In February 2026, the state government inaugurated a seven-member committee to investigate allegations of misconduct, harassment and overzealous enforcement by VIO officials.

“I Am Not Interested In Any Other Thing, I Don’t Even Want To Go To Senate,I Am Not Interested – Alex Otti

According to a report by Punch on Thursday, September 17, 2026, Abia State Governor Alex Otti has stated that he does not intend to become a political godfather after leaving office, adding that the person who succeeds him in 2031 should be chosen by the people of the state.

Otti made the remarks at the Labour Party State Secretariat in Umuahia during the formal reception of Dr Ngozika Gladys Johnson-Chukwunenye, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, who recently joined the Labour Party.

The governor explained that he had no plans to seek another elective position after completing his tenure as governor. He specifically ruled out pursuing a Senate seat or any other political office after leaving Government House.

Otti said his intention was to complete his second term, which could run until 2031, and subsequently withdraw from active politics. He explained that he wanted younger people to have the opportunity to assume leadership positions and contribute to the development of Abia State.

He also rejected the idea of remaining influential in the state's political affairs by determining who would succeed him. According to him, the choice of the next governor should be left to Abia voters rather than being controlled by a single political figure.

His comments came as the Labour Party welcomed Johnson-Chukwunenye, who previously contested the 2023 governorship election under the Social Democratic Party. Her formal reception brought party members and supporters together at the party secretariat in Umuahia.

During the event, Otti used the occasion to clarify his political ambitions and explain his position on succession. He maintained that his objective was to serve out the period permitted by law and then create room for a new generation of leaders.

The governor said he was satisfied with the opportunity to serve as Abia governor and did not see the need to pursue another political position after completing his tenure.

He stated, “I am not interested in any other thing. I don’t even want to go to Senate. I am not interested. Once I finish this one, I will retire. Why do I say so? I want the young people to take over."

Otti's position places emphasis on allowing voters to determine the state's future leadership while discouraging continued political control by former officeholders. His comments come amid increasing political activity in Abia as political actors position themselves ahead of future elections.

Having emerged as governor after the 2023 election, Otti is currently serving his first term. If he secures a second term, his tenure could extend to 2031, after which he says he intends to leave active politics and allow younger leaders to take responsibility.

I will end Zamfara insecurity in two years or resign — NDC guber candidate, Marafa.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, governorship candidate in Zamfara State, Senator Kabir Marafa, has pledged to end insecurity in the state within two years if elected governor in the 2027 general election.

Marafa made the declaration on Wednesday during a media chat with members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Zamfara State Council, at his residence in Gusau.

He said he would voluntarily resign if he failed to end insecurity, insurgency, kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state within two years of assuming office.

“If I am elected governor in the forthcoming general elections, give me a period of two years and I will end insecurity in this state.

“If I cannot bring an end to insecurity, insurgency, kidnapping and other criminalities in Zamfara State within the period of two years, I will voluntarily resign,” he said.

Marafa, a former senator and commissioner in the state, said his experience in government had given him an understanding of the challenges facing Zamfara.

“I served as a commissioner for many years in this state. I also served as a senator for many years. I know the problems of this state and how to solve them,” he said.
