We are a group of community-based development centers in impoverished, rural areas in Nigeria. We are on track to train over 2,000 farmers in 2024 alone.

We target the most vulnerable, small-scale farmers and empower them to improve their own communities through hands-on training in regenerative agriculture. Decapolis Community Development Center is a community-based development program working in impoverished, rural communities in Nigeria. We target the most vulnerable and empower them - through hands-on training in regenerative agriculture. We primarily train small-scale farmers to teach them how they can feed their family and make a profit on less than 1 hectare of land. Our multi-day trainings for small-scale farmers and community leaders are currently held at our training locations in FCT Abuja and Kogi State, and we do on-site trainings in various communities across the country for local farmers and farmers' cooperatives, with special consideration given to IDP camps, orphanages, and after-care programs for trafficking victims.

All you need to be a successful farmer is a hoe and a small piece of land!

Our IDEAS-TVET students, part of a Nigerian Federal Ministry of Education program funded by the World Bank, put into practice the basics of land preparation. Clearing the field of weeds (image 1), covering the soil with a layer of mulch (image 2), and digging their planting stations (image 3).

No costly tractors that break down or expensive chemicals that damage the health of the soil. By breaking the work of land preparation into manageable smaller tasks, starting on time, and working at standard, our farmers can farm with joy.

This small portion of land (less than 1/4 of an acre) will soon be home to eight different crops and the seeds of hope for a better future, breaking the cycle of poverty, hunger, and dependency through faithful stewardship of God's creation.

The miracle of thermal compost!

Every healthy meal begins with healthy soil! πŸ₯—πŸŒ±

From eggplants to groundnuts (peanuts), Decapolis' regenerative produce is looking great this year! No chemicals added, just natural restoration of soil health through zero tillage, constant mulch cover, thermal compost application, and high field maintenance.

She plants hope, and it grows into tomorrow 🌱🌳

Teaching smallholder women farmers regenerative agroforestry techniques is more than just teaching a farming method. It is teaching respect for the land, enhancing farm resilience, and fostering sustainable food production.

And that is why we are passionate about providing hands-on learning opportunities. We take the theory straight to the field and put the power of directly into the hands of the smallholder farmer. πŸ‘©πŸΎβ€πŸŒΎπŸ‘πŸΎ

🌿The use of cover crops is a fundamental sustainable method used to manage soil fertility, soil quality, water, weeds, pests, diseases, and biodiversity and wildlife in an agroecosystem.

πŸ₯œA green manure crop, like our 1.8 hectares of groundnuts (peanuts) shown here, is a type of cover crop, grown primarily to add nutrients and organic matter to the soil. It is superior to synthetic nitrogen inputs and costs the farmer nothing! And while we will certainly benefit from harvesting this crop, the biggest benefit is the regeneration of the soil and its ecosystems, which will allow the land to produce a larger harvest of whatever crops we plant there next year.

πŸ˜ƒWhen we utilize the natural processes found in God's creation, we can farm with joy!

πŸ›πŸŒΏ"Long before agroecology became a global term, African communities farmed with nature - rotating crops, composting, and respecting seasons. Reviving agroecology is not importing a solution; it is reclaiming a legacy." ~ Dr. Belay

practices are not just about reclaiming the soil but reclaiming a legacy, and that's why, at Decapolis, we're intentional about multi-generational involvement in learning how to be good stewards of God's resources. πŸ‘©πŸΏβ€πŸŒΎπŸŒ

Two years later, and our farm truck continues to be such a blessing! Thank you once again to all who helped make it a reality. In addition to all the farm work of this season, it's helping just a few πŸ˜‰πŸ˜… smallholder farmers get to and from training twice a week.

Decapolis Community Development Center, in partnership with Equipping Farmers International (EFI), is currently carrying out a six-month program with Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) Project, funded by the World Bank and the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Federal Ministry of Education, in partnership with Omalucy Foods.

The training is equipping more than 60 smallholder farmers (SHFs) with practical skills in regenerative agriculture, including thermal composting, Chicken Manure Soup (CMS), Integrated Pest Management (IPM), vegetable and cash crop production, agroforestry integration, soil health restoration, market linkage, and financial planning.

Farming rice using practices is an almost zero-input cost venture. No herbicides, no pesticides, no synthetic fertilizers, no tractors for tilling, no irrigation. And look how beautiful and healthy it looks (image on the right).

also provides larger yields on a small portion of land, so farmers can farm on smaller plots closer to home instead of farming large tracts of land in remote, insecure locations.

Decapolis is helping to address insecurity challenges while bridging the gap between the environment and national economic growth by training smallholder farmers in sustainable land stewardship close to home.
