Today at OlaVerse, we are turning back the pages of Nollywood history to honor the incredible life and legacy of a true trailblazer: Monsurat Omidina, affectionately known to millions across West Africa as Omoladun Kenkelewu (1962 - 2009).

Long before the era of social media comedy skits, Omoladun broke barriers in a male-dominated comedy scene. She didn’t just participate; she led. With her hilariously exaggerated costumes, bold expressions, and quick-witted dialogue, she earned her title as Nigeria's first true female Yoruba movie comedienne pioneer. 🎭👑

Her journey began in 1982 under the tutelage of Chief Olowookere in Ibadan. But it was her historic move to Lagos and her iconic standout role in the film 'Oko Yoyo' that birthed the legend "Kenkelewu"—a moniker that stayed with her forever. From 'Ògédé Didùn' to 'Ògo Ìdílé' and 'Nkan Agbara', her presence on screen guaranteed rib-cracking entertainment.

Off-screen, she was a mother and wife; on-screen, she and her husband, the legendary Babatunde Omidina (Baba Suwe), formed Nigeria's most iconic comedic duo. Their on-screen chemistry was unmatched, providing generations of families with therapeutic laughter that brightened even the darkest days.
