Messi's Done With Argentina

Messi has officially retired from international football after Argentina's World Cup final loss to Spain — a defeat further stained by ugly, undisciplined behavior from his teammates after the match.

The fairytale ending everyone wanted didn't quite happen. And it's fair to ask whether Messi's aura bought Argentina more slack over the years than it should have — that debate isn't going away.

He wrote the retirement statement two days after the final, and said his father's recent death made him even more certain of the decision. Rough way to close out 21 years in the shirt.

He leaves with 8 goals and 4 assists this tournament — briefly the all-time World Cup scorer before Mbappé edged him out with 22. Don't be surprised if the next move is racking up easy numbers in MLS.

End of an era. A complicated one. 🐐⚽

"Bruno Fernandes deserves it 100% because if you look at what he's done at Manchester united over the years, no one deserves it better than Him"

"21 premier league assists is harder than what people think, years to come a lot of players will try to break the record then they'll realize how difficult it is"
