ENUGU POLICE ARREST ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT, RECOVER LOCALLY MADE PISTOL, LIVE CARTRIDGE IN CITIZEN-SUPPORTED OPERATION

Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested a 26-year-old male armed robbery suspect and recovered a locally made pistol and a live cartridge in a citizen-supported operation at Obollo Etiti in Udenu Local Government Area of the State. The arrest followed the receipt of a credible information on August 10, 2026, at about 1:45 p.m., alerting the Police to the suspicious activities of a young man who had arrived at a hotel, purportedly to lodge.

Acting on the information, the suspect's bag was searched, leading to the recovery of the locally made pistol and live cartridge. The suspect, identified as Chekwube Agbo, was immediately arrested and taken into custody alongside the recovered exhibits.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of an armed robbery gang that specialized in threatening and robbing Point-of-Sale (POS) operators of their valuables. He further stated that his gang members fled the scene upon his arrest. The suspect will be prosecuted in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, mspsp, smicm, has commended the citizen who provided the timely information and reiterated the importance of promptly providing the Police with credible information on suspicious persons and activities. He assures the public that efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the criminal gang members that fled, while investigations continue.

ARREST OF FOUR (4) SUSPECTED CULTISTS, RECOVERY OF LOCALLY MADE BERETTA PISTOL AND 9MM LIVE AMMUNITION

In a major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against cultism and other violent crimes in Lagos State, operatives of the Lagos State Police Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) have arrested four (4) suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity cult group and recovered one locally made Beretta pistol and one 9mm ammunition in Mushin.

Following credible intelligence on the activities of cult groups in Mushin, operatives of the VCRU swiftly swung into action and arrested one Irawo Moshod, ‘m’. During investigation, the suspect admitted to being a former chairman of the Aiye Confraternity cult group and made useful disclosures regarding the activities of the group, including his alleged involvement in several killings within Mushin and other parts of Lagos State. Acting on information provided by the suspect, operatives proceeded to Idi-Oro, Mushin, where one locally made Beretta pistol and one 9mm live ammunition were recovered.

Three other suspected members of the group, namely Abayomi James, ‘m’, 29 years; Farouq Bankole, ‘m’, 28 years; and Steven Sunday, ‘m’, 19 years, were subsequently arrested at Aganran by Ojuwoye. The suspects admitted to being members of the Aiye Confraternity, while they disclosed that the recovered firearm was gotten from one Rilwan, identified as the number one member of the group. The suspects are currently in Police custody and assisting with investigations. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, has commended the operatives of the VCRU for their proactive and intelligence-driven approach in disrupting cult-related criminal activities in the State. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Lagos State, while warning cultists and other criminal elements to desist from their activities or face the full weight of the law.

_EKITI STATE POLICE COMMAND RRS ARRESTS THREE SUSPECTED ATM FRAUDSTERS, RECOVERS 16 ATM CARDS_

The Ekiti State Police Command's Rapid Response Squad (RRS), on 8th August 2026, arrested three suspects, namely Timilehin Akinola, 39 years; Ojo Peter, 46 years; and Ademola Akinware, 35 years, who are suspected to be members of a syndicate specialising in ATM card theft and fraud.

The suspects were arrested following credible intelligence regarding their presence at the ATM gallery of Wema Bank, Okesa Branch, Ado-Ekiti.

Upon receipt of the information, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) were swiftly deployed to the scene. Upon sighting the operatives, the suspects, who were riding a TVS motorcycle, attempted to flee the area. The operatives immediately gave them a hot pursuit and successfully intercepted them at the Basiri area of Ado-Ekiti.

A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of sixteen (16) ATM cards belonging to different banks and individuals.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects specialise in hijacking and swapping ATM cards from unsuspecting members of the public at ATM points within bank premises and subsequently using the cards to fraudulently withdraw funds from the victims' bank accounts.

The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has directed that the investigation be intensified with a view to identifying other members of the syndicate and establishing the full extent of their criminal activities.

The Command therefore enjoins members of the public to remain vigilant when using ATM facilities and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or contact the Command on 08062335577.
