"We are on a mission to democratise access to cybersecurity and AI education; enabling underserved communities to build resilience and thrive."

01/10/2026

It’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month!

This October, we’ll be sharing practical tips, quizzes and challenges to help you recognise cyber risks, build safer digital habits and make smarter choices online.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is simple: build stronger digital habits, one Cyber smart decision at a time.

Because every safer choice we make helps us build a safer digital future together.

So tell us, what’s one cybersecurity habit you want to improve this month?

AI is changing cybersecurity and the people securing it need to be ready too.

That is one of the reasons CyberSafe Foundation and SANS Institute came together to launch the CyberSafe x SANS AI Security Fellowship.

For years, we’ve invested in African women in cybersecurity and helped build a strong talent pipeline across the continent.

Through this fellowship, 10 experienced African women will now spend nine months deepening their AI security expertise through SANS training and a pathway to two GIAC certifications, at no cost to them.

There is a much bigger story behind why this fellowship exists, the gap we are working together to address, and what this partnership is set to make possible.

The right conversations can open the door to stronger institutions.

This October, we’re creating a dedicated space for Critical Community Institutions in Ghana to connect, ask the right questions, and understand the support available to strengthen their cybersecurity.

If your institution serves communities and you want to understand what this opportunity could mean for you, this is a conversation worth joining.

We’ll share what Resilio Africa offers, who is eligible, and how institutions in Ghana can access practical cybersecurity support at no cost, with support from Google.org.

Date: Thursday, 15 October 2026

This month, we looked at social engineering and some of the ways it can show up in everyday digital life, from fake customer support requests for OTPs to URL spoofing and typosquatting.

Different tactics, but they often depend on the same thing: getting you to trust what you are seeing quickly enough to act on it.

That is why verification matters.

If a message asks you to log in, share sensitive information, make a payment or approve access, do not rely only on how familiar or convincing it looks.

Open the official app yourself. Visit the website directly. Contact the person or organisation through a channel you already trust. And if payment details suddenly change, confirm them separately before sending money.

You may not catch every trick immediately, but you can build habits that make it harder for urgency, familiarity or pressure to make the decision for you.

Our brain is very good at reading what it expects to see.

So when you’re trying to log into a work portal, pay for something, track an order, or quickly open a familiar website, one tiny change in the address can easily disappear in plain sight.

And it will not always be an “o” swapped for “0”.

A letter could be missing.

Two letters could switch places.

An extra character could appear.

Or one character could be replaced with another that looks almost identical.

That is why the safest habit is not just recognising the brand name. Read the actual web address before you enter a password, card detail, OTP, or company login.

So, how quickly did you spot the difference in today’s challenge?

Oluwamayowa did not need another reason to avoid PowerShell. She needed the kind of training that would make her face it.

Through CyberGirls+, she gained access to advanced SANS training that pushed her beyond that discomfort and helped her build real technical fluency.

That growth went beyond becoming more comfortable with a tool. It strengthened how she analysed threats and communicated incident response strategies, and that improvement began to show in her work.

Senior leadership noticed. Greater responsibilities followed.

CyberGirls+, made possible through the partnership between CyberSafe Foundation and SANS Institute, gave Oluwamayowa the opportunity to go deeper in an area that had once challenged her and turn that growth into something tangible in her career.

If you believe more women should have access to opportunities like this, please support the next CyberGirls+ cohort.

A CVE is more than a line on a résumé.

Behind it is a researcher trusted to identify a real security weakness, communicate it responsibly, and contribute to making technology safer for the people who depend on it.

That is what makes Ezinne’s story so important to us. CyberGirls Fellowship was never designed simply to help women learn cybersecurity concepts. The goal is to give women the technical foundation, confidence, and community they can continue building on long after the Fellowship ends, until they are not just entering the industry, but actively contributing to it.

Ezinne’s achievement is one example of what that long-term investment can grow into. There are more African women with the curiosity and potential to make discoveries, secure systems, and solve problems we have not even encountered yet. They need the opportunity to begin.

Help us give another woman that opportunity.

Happening today. Join us for the third edition of The Privacy Circle.

In partnership with SWIDA GHANA, a women-led organisation advancing the rights and empowerment of women and girls in Ghana, SafeHerClinic is bringing another practical digital safety conversation to women.

Today’s session will move beyond simply recognising online risks. Participants will learn how to examine what information about them is publicly accessible, strengthen account and device security, preserve evidence of online abuse, navigate reporting and content-removal options, and understand where to seek support when harm occurs.

The goal is to give women practical knowledge they can use to make more informed decisions about their digital lives and participate online with greater confidence and control.
