Yellow Card started with a $90 fee and a question: why should moving money be this hard?

Chris Maurice, our co-founder and CEO, tells that story at Money20/20 Middle East next week, in conversation with Afua Hagan of News Central.

Founder Story: "It Started With A $90 Problem"
Monday 14 September, 4:30pm
Off The Record stage, Riyadh

It's the unpolished version. What was broken, what didn't work, and what it actually took to build the settlement infrastructure businesses now move money on.

If you're in Riyadh for Money20/20, come and listen.

The UAE has regulatory clarity on Stablecoins. Most of the markets its businesses trade with are still writing theirs. That gap, not the technology, is the real problem for anyone moving money between the Gulf and emerging markets. The question is whether the route you settle through today will still be permitted and supervised in twelve months.

Lasbery C. Oludimu (LLM, MCIArb, ACIS), our Group VP of Operations, takes on that question twice at Crypto Expo, Dubai next week.

Session 1: 12:15 PM: Stablecoins, Regulatory Clarity & Cross-Border Payments: What's Next for MENA & Global Finance. Moderated by Ghadeer Ibrahim, with Max Lighter and Shamvil Raza as panelists.

Session 2: 4:50 PM: Women Building Trust in Crypto: Governance, Security, and Market Confidence. With Maria Tunikova, Dr Lisa Cameron, and Anna A. MacMillan

Both on Thursday 10 September 2026, Blockchain & Crypto Hall, Dubai World Trade Centre.

Lasbery runs the operation behind our settlement across emerging markets, and she works inside these licensing frameworks as they are being built. Come and meet her at the event, and hear what she has to say.

From trading Pokémon cards to moving money across 20+ African markets.

Our CEO, Chris Maurice, joined for a wide-ranging conversation on Stablecoins as a de facto exchange rate, privacy and regulation in payments, and what happens when software starts making payments on its own.

Four communicators, one question: what does AI actually change about how Africa tells its own story?

Rutendo Nyamuda, our Director of Brand Communications, spent last Friday morning on that panel at Africa Global PR Week in Nairobi with Nyandia Gachago, Joel Chacha, and Eunice Ankomah, with Maina Chege moderating.

Thank you to the organisers for putting African communicators at the centre of a conversation the rest of the industry is still having about us.

Yellow Card has been admitted to the second cohort of the Securities and Exchange Commission, (SEC) Regulatory Sandbox for Virtual Asset Service Providers.

In practice, this allows us to test our stablecoin brokerage services and associated activities in Ghana under the direct supervision of the SEC.

This is an important step as Ghana’s regulatory and licensing framework for virtual assets continues to take shape. We intend to contribute actively to that process and help build a safe, compliant, and sustainable digital asset ecosystem.

Nigeria's SEC has admitted Yellow Card into its Accelerated Regulatory Incubation Programme, granting a conditional Approval-in-Principle (AIP). Nigeria is where we started in 2019. It's still home to our largest team and much of our senior leadership.

An AIP isn't a final licence or registration, and it doesn't reflect SEC endorsement of any specific product or service. It's conditional on continued compliance with the SEC's regulatory, operational, and supervisory requirements, and doesn't authorise us to launch new products or services in Nigeria until those conditions are met. We're committed to meeting them.

Chris Maurice, CEO and Co-Founder of Yellow Card, is speaking at Stablecon USA 2026 in Washington, D.C. this September.

The GENIUS Act has answered the question of who can legally issue money. Now the harder questions are being worked out in real time: bank vs. non-bank issuers, federal vs. state licensing, concentration risk in a $300B market, and what happens when AI agents hold wallets.

Chris will be on stage to share his perspective and engage with some of the sharpest minds at this intersection.

See you in D.C., September 9–11.

Our own Lasbery Oludimu, VP of Operations and MD of Yellow Card Nigeria, took the stage at The Borderless Experience by Norrsken to talk about where stablecoins are actually solving problems in cross-border payments across Africa.

The conversation is shifting. It's no longer "is this technology interesting," it's "how do we move money faster and cheaper for the people who need it most." That's the work we show up for every day.

Thanks to Norrsken for putting together a panel that gets into the real mechanics, not just the hype.

New partnership: Yellow Card App 🤝 Tranzmit

Tranzmit has integrated Yellow Card's Payments API to power its USA-to-Nigeria corridor, one of its largest and fastest-growing.

Tranzmit has spent decades helping people move money across borders. That corridor now runs on Yellow Card's stablecoin rails, converting USD-pegged stablecoins to local currency so payments land faster, at better rates, with fewer surprises.
