TROOPS OF OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA RESCUE KIDNAPPED VICTIM, FOIL TERRORIST ATTACK IN KADUNA, SOKOTO

Troops of Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY) have sustained their operational momentum across the Joint Operations Area, rescuing a kidnapped victim in Kaduna State and foiling a terrorist attack in Sokoto State.

On 20 August 2026, troops of Sector 1 responded to a distress call following the abduction of a 43-year-old man around Awon Community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The troops swiftly moved into the area and pursued the terrorists into the surrounding bushes, compelling them to abandon their captive and flee. The rescued victim was subsequently reunited with his family.

In a separate operation on 21 August 2026, troops of Sector 2, working in conjunction with local security elements, responded to a terrorist attack on Kwaren Gamba Village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State. Troops engaged the terrorists and forced them to withdraw in disarray.

During the subsequent pursuit of the fleeing terrorists, one terrorist was neutralized, while troops recovered 2 mobile phones, cash, an ATM card, recharge cards and other items from the scene.

The Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains resolute in sustaining the tempo of ongoing operations to deny terrorists freedom of action and create a safer environment for communities across the Joint Operations Area. The Theatre Command reassures the public that troops will continue to respond decisively to emerging threats, while urging citizens to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to security forces in support of ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and security

Kogi Farmer Killed By Terrorists Bandits While Working On Farm

Lokoja, Kogi State – A farmer has been killed by suspected bandits while working on his farm in a fresh attack that has left the community in fear.

The victim, identified simply as Mr. Dada, was attacked on Tuesday morning, August 11, 2026, on his farm in Oshokoshoko, a community in Oworo, located within Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.

According to community sources, Mr. Dada left for his farm as usual on Tuesday morning but never returned home. When his family members became worried and went to look for him, they made a grim discovery.

“He went to the farm in the morning as he normally did, but when he did not return, the family became worried,” a community source told SaharaReporters. “They started looking for him and eventually traced him to the farm. That was where they found him dead with machete cuts on his body”.

Other reports indicate the farmer was shot dead by the armed attackers.

The farm is located along the Obajana–Kabba corridor, a major route connecting several communities in the state. This area has become a hotspot for criminal activity, with bandits and kidnappers using the dense forests as hideouts.

The killing has sent shockwaves through the farming community and raised serious concerns about the safety of farmers in the region.

“We are now very afraid to go to our farms because nobody knows who may be waiting there,” one community source said.

Many farmers now face a terrifying choice: risk their lives to feed their families or abandon their farms altogether.

The attack came just days after bandits abducted nine travelers in the same area, highlighting the deteriorating security situation along the Kabba-Obajana-Lokoja road.

Residents are urgently calling on the Kogi State Government and security agencies to step up patrols and intelligence gathering along the corridor.

“We need security agencies to come to these communities and farms. If nothing is done, more farmers could be attacked,” a source told SaharaReporters.

While the Nigerian Army's 12 Brigade has previously conducted operations in the area to fight bandits, the killing of Mr. Dada shows that more needs to be done to protect farmers.

RUTHLESS TERRORIST LEADER MAMUDA CAPTURED BY THE DSS IN NIGER STATE.

Ruthless terrorist Abubakar Abba, widely known as Mamuda, has been captured in Wawa, Borgu Local Government Area, by DSS following weeks of intelligence-led surveillance. His capture was confirmed on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago if Niger State.

Mamuda had long terrorised communities along the Kainji axis, including parts of Kwara State, where he orchestrated numerous attacks, kidnappings, and killings.

His group has been suspected to have attacked many communities on the borders between Niger and Kwara.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama revealed that the bandits chief was originally a member of the Abubakar Shekau-led Boko Haram faction before relocating to the North West and transitioning into large-scale banditry.

According to security sources, his arrest resulted from sustained intelligence operations targeting high-profile criminals in the region. He remains in DSS custody as authorities intensify investigations into his network and criminal operations.
